Thank you very much for your time and effort and sharing these comprehensive test results . This is a great news for me, as my last concern with Mark VI is no more valid. Time to get myself a nice Xmas present I guess :)

    On the other side, no Sony phone I have ever used has ever broken during the 4-5 years of use. I've always upgraded because I wanted something new. My old Xperia 5 compact (2015) is still perfectly functional. My father in law says he wants nothing else.

      Anonymous, 29 Nov 2024>If you want specifics, do ask, but do it while replying... moreI’ve just completed the test. Here are the conditions I set: 4K, 120 fps, S-Cinetone on, 24 mm, H265 compression, MPEG4 format, image stabilization on, 80% display brightness, temperature in the room 22 degrees Celsius.

      The results are:

      1. Temperature (Celsius) (NFC logo area):
      a. Initial: 32.2
      b. After 15 minutes: 34.2
      c. After 30 minutes: 35.7
      2. Temperature (Celsius) (SONY logo area):
      a. Initial: 31
      b. After 15 minutes: 32.4
      c. After 30 minutes: 34.2
      3. Perceived temperature:
      a. The phone did get a little bit warm, but nothing that would make me take a second look at the device
      b. The area surrounding the lenses seemed the warmest, but again, nothing bothering or worrying
      4. Temperature 5 minutes after stopping the recording (Celsius) (NFC logo area):
      a. It went down to 30.1, which is interesting. It proves the device is actively dealing with any warming and is effectively cooling down.
      5. Battery drain:
      a. I started with 79% and ended up with 68%. Knowing that I can easily watch a 50-minute episode draining 3-4%, this seemed a lot. On the other hand, knowing I’ve just shot a continuous 4K 120fps movie for half an hour, this seemed reasonable.
      6. Size of the video:
      a. 31.57 GB.

      I won’t repeat the test for 60 fps. It would be useless. The phone manages 4K without any issues.

                    Anonymous, 29 Nov 2024>If you want specifics, do ask, but do it while replying... moreHello,

                    I'll try this later today and let you know. Do keep in mind the following:

                    1. Xperia 1 VI uses the H265 standard for encoding 4K 120 fps videos. This means that the amount of information stored for a quality similar to the H264 standard is reduced to about 60-70%. In practical terms, this means the phone shouldn't overheat as fast as the old ones. I don't know the standard the 5 III uses in this scenario.
                    2. Recording on an SD card requires more processing power and, thus, more dissipated heat.
                    3. It should implicitly reduce heat given the processor's speed and the fast UFS 4.0 the phone uses.
                    4. I do have a feeling that playing with the Video Pro (available with Android 15, I've only got that a couple of days ago) settings (such as applying S-Cinetone, changing aperture, color space etc) could make the phone overheat faster, but this has to be checked too.

                    BTW, it's a very very big change having one single integrated camera app, which runs from fast Auto, to Camera Pro, Video Pro, Slow Mo, Telephoto Macro, Full-size RAW etc.

                      Thank you so much for sharing back and taking the time to provide a detailed reply.

                      The only specific question I have is about camera overheating when recording 4K60/120 videos.
                      Is this true that Sony have finally managed to fix this issue and one can shoot 4K60 videos for at least half an hour without overheating?
                      (I have a fast 1 TB MicroSD card to store the recordings so the storage space is not a factor but 5 III shows the overheating warning after about 15 minutes of recording, give or take.)
                      PS you are right about the processor speed—I am not playing mobile games or drooling over benchmark scores. For me, a smartphone is just another tool that helps me make money, and I want it to be as comfortable and reliable as the rest of the tools I use every day.

                        Yes, the display and camera were good (not mind-blowing, however).
                        To make it short, it was good overall but considering the price, Sony is hardly worth it (as for my personal opinion)

                          Anonymous, 28 Nov 2024What negative experiences have you had so far with this dev... moreThank you for your answer.

                          The first negative is the price. Period. It took me one month to make sure I want this device, coming myself from an Xperia 5 II, that was functional.

                          The second negative is the number of system updates. I don’t feel it yet, but I will, in three years’ time. I’ve convinced myself though that four years of security updates is enough. The idea is that of the main issues I had with my latest phone was the fact that it was not updating its security patches. And, for instance, my online banking app started to ask for PIN every time.

                          If you come from Xperia 5 III, you’ll have a shock with the display. It’s similarly crisp (you should not believe those who say it’s not crisp enough, it’s perfectly crisp), but the device is quite larger. It took me about a week to fully get accustomed to that.

                          That’s just about all. In rest, imagine a device that does everything you’re accustomed to, but waaaay better. Especially with respect to the following things:
                          1. Battery life (it is insane, and I only go up to 90% when charging);
                          2. Superb graphics;
                          3. Better front-facing speakers (yup, even better than they were);
                          4. Waaaay easier camera system, which allows you to take simple pics, when needed and complex compositions when intended;
                          5. Faster processor (though I somehow know this wasn’t an issue for you);
                          6. Very reliable physical qualities. Mine is spotless and scratch-less three months later and I’m a heavy user.

                          If you want specifics, do ask, but do it while replying to my comment. That way, you can rest assured I see your reply.

                                You have just invented Xperia 10 VI. It is a BUDGET phone, in Sony's terms.
                                If you cannot afford it, it's not Sony's problem you know.

                                  Anonymous, 28 Nov 2024i really don't understand why they make phones and eve... moreFirstly, the 3.5 jack, the SD card support and the perfect resolution are plusses, not minuses. They come on a device that has barely touched the stock Android. In addition, the number of optimizations, firsts, and unique features on this phone is astounding. Still finding new stuff after more than 3 months of use.

                                  Secondly, to answer your question:

                                  Ever heard of ”brand erosion”? It is a trait in the Capitalist societies with a strict economic purspose: You create a new brand and take all they hype. In the beginning, such objects are very expensive. And then, for decades in a row, you keep lowering the price making people pay for a continuously erroding image. In the 1930's, you couldn't buy a Benz car, it was simply too expensive for you. Now there are tons of Mercedes-Benz cars on the roads. In the end, you manage to sell a lot and only lose one name, one brand.

                                  Sony does not succomb to such strategies. Xperias scream quality just as the Sony Walkman did (and still does) in the 80's. No brand erosion here.

                                    i really don't understand why they make phones and even if its for a particular niche how long they'll survive? They still provide 3.5mm jack with sd card and some crazy display resolution with camera apart from that there nothing. I really want sony make budget phones for a larger audience they just need a cool ui along with crazy optimization with the sony brand value they'll definitely sell like hot cakes. I wonder why they are not doing anything about expanding in the market .
