Mike, 17 May 2024The 1" sensor in the Pro I was a joke, still 12MP and ... moreOne feature that no one told is that the PRO-I has sensor with anti-distortion shutter 1/32000, soo there is very low Rolling Shutter (because sensor is extremely fast) when you record video. I test that, rest of tester non.

The lens only covered about the same area as that of 1V and 1VI sensors. I'd consider buying one even at this sensor size if it shot natively in 20MP but I am hopping the camera company develops a backbone and makes an actual 1" camera phone.

We need the "stick between the spokes" meme for opinion posts. Sony releasing a red handset only in Japan is a mistake.

They should have also included a 2k screen where users could have dropped the resolution to 1080p to preserve battery

Sony, the camera company that keeps refusing to make a camera phone. While they had other limitations the intricate detail of 4yr old Xiaomi phones that shot natively at 25mp is still miles ahead of this 48mp software joke. Just make a 1" camera phone that shoots natively at 20-25mp. Those of us who keep asking for this won't buy your compact cameras because we don't want to carry two devices and we won't buy your new standard phone for incremental gains.

LucasN82, 17 May 2024and best battery on the market and very slim housing (body)I think they invested in developing Xperia 5 VI and called it a day. Then added price and size to it to match 1 series segment.

OHMLON, 17 May 2024Avid Sony user here. I own the Z1, Z5P, XZ, XZP, XZ2P and 1... more4k isn't their unique selling point, at least for most buyers. I think Sony noticed 5 series got better reception than 1 series over the years, so they didn't mind dropping 4k. Most people instead care more about LTPO and a wider ratio. If anything, they'd avoid 4k because they don't perceive the sharpness benefit but instead perceive the drawbacks (less performance and battery). And as a result this is the first 1 series phone I'm considering (once price goes down).
As for 21:9, that's even further away from 16:9. Wish they went for 18:9 at least, that would've been unique in a better way.

Their unique selling points are many, such as headphone jack, microSD card, IP65, front firing stereo, moving telephoto etc.

OHMLON, 17 May 2024Avid Sony user here. I own the Z1, Z5P, XZ, XZP, XZ2P and 1... morei have the 1 v now (from iphone 11 pro, 1 ii, z5 premium, z3) as a work phone...
and i must agree with the display area...
while i was disappointed with the shift from 21:9 cropped 4k after owning 2 (and another with a 4k uhd on the z5 p) and it is an obviously downgrade on resolution, it was not a downgrade overall, especially for those wanting the variable refresh rate and significantly brighter display (i am not part of "those" though as i am ok with the 1 v's brightness)...
sony might be trying to get more consumers (as the fanbase, maybe mostly, upgrades after 2-3 years, or so)
i am just hoping that 21:9 cropped 4k comes back on 1vii or 1viii, in time for my upgrade...
i cannot look somewhere else, nothing comes close to xperia for what i am looking for in display and audio versatility... and that clean ui, too...

Avid Sony user here. I own the Z1, Z5P, XZ, XZP, XZ2P and 1 III. Say what you want about Xperias - they are fantastic phones and do last a lifetime - and that's a fact. All of mine still work flawlessly to date (even the now ancient Z1!) and batteries degrade far less than any other phone brand I've owned. My 1 III with SD888 still runs (and feels) like new and my XZ2P still functions brilliantly as a spare phone. I have no issues whatsoever splurging on the latest and greatest Sony Xperia (as I genuinely believe that they are the best premium phones out there with the least compromise) and will happily go the extra mile to source the phone from abroad if it happens to be unavailable where I live in the colour and storage option of my choice. I'm one of those guys.

Having said that, I cannot stress enough just how disappointed I am with the VI. I was really, really, REALLY (!) looking forward to buying this phone to replace my 1 III. That's just never going to happen now. This release disappoints in a major way and I cannot fathom for the life of me whom they expect to target and sell this to at this price point. I could have very reluctantly lived with the change in aspect ratio (even though I've learned to really love 21:9) but the downgrade in screen resolution is just an absolute no go for me. Irrespective of what you may think of 4K on a phone, it was their main USP (unique selling point). The one thing that made Sony phones truly special and stand apart from the competition. I just loved having a 4K phone in my pocket! And yes, my 1 III does run at FHD most of the time but when 4K kicks in it is extremely noticeable (to me at least) and truly magnificent. I also use an iPhone 15PM as my work phone and when I compare media content side by side on both phones the older Xperia easily blows the newer brighter Apple out of the water. There is also nothing like shooting videos in 4K and then watching them in native resolution on the phone's screen. The latest iterations of Xperias were after all targeting professionals and content creators. So, to attempt to sell me a downgraded FHD+ display in 2024 at a cost higher than even an iPhone PM is just truly insane and unfathomable. Surveys be damned. This reminds me of how legacy airlines like BA and Lufthansa aborted free meals in Economy Class (and introduced buy on board to better compete with low cost airlines) yet kept ticket prices the same and cited "popular customer demand". And sites like gsmarena (that have had access to the phone prior to its release) are even trying to convince me that the resolution downgrade is a good thing. What now?

Sony have offered 4K phones for a number of years now. I would have expected them this time around to maybe upgrade the OLED panel, increase brightness ever so slightly, bring us VRR on 4K or Dolby Vision or.. something. That's one thing LG does with every new iteration of their OLED TVs. Small but significant upgrades. But to downgrade the whole display (in 2024!) to Full HD+ and call it a day? We already had that: it was called the Xperia 5. For those of us who wanted it anyway. If you want to discontinue the 5 line, then at least, from a marketing point of view, combine both into one line, reduce the price point of the base model then offer a Premium/Pro/Ultra version. What you do not do is downgrade a main USP and then try to sell it off as a good thing. They pulled this stunt before when they replaced the Z5 with the XZ (but were at least quick to bring us the XZP one year later). Just imagine if LG tried to pull this off with their TV line: downgrade their flagship OLED G4 TV from 4K to Full HD+ in the name of brightness, better refresh rates and/or better power consumption. And then expect the same premium over other brands. Ha! I am just baffled on why they couldn't just give us the option to change the resolution manually in the settings (to save on battery for example if we wanted to) instead of opting for this "new" inferior panel.

There's nothing that sets the VI apart now from other Android competitors. It offers a similar aspect ratio, high quality build, excellent camera in most instances, same processor and an inferior display to other flagships but for a higher price. It's just the packaging that's different. It's a good phone overall for sure but feels upper-mid range at best for a very premium price. I think the 1V was a much better overall package.

Here's to hoping they bring back the higher resolution display later this year, perhaps in the form of a 1 VI Pro or 1 VI Ultra. I stress on the word upgrade because I as a consumer expect progress. But I can only dream. I may just keep my 1 III for another year or get the 1 V for now but next year if they pull this stunt again I will not hesitate to switch to another brand and call it a day too

With the FPS optimiser (Frames per Second), you can get the perfect balance of image rendering performance, power consumption and low surface temperatures. Ideal for heavy-load games, it can be also activated for less demanding puzzle gaming, for maximum battery life.

Adjust the FPS in the menu in all game genres, from high-load FPS games to puzzle games, and toggle all-game mode on or off.

With the Xperia 1 VI, you have a wider choice of mobile carriers, thanks to the convenience of eSIM support. And if you're using a traditional SIM card or a microSD card up to 1.5TB, you don’t need a tool to open the SIM tray. All without compromising the IP65/68 water resistance
