How... moreWell goodluck finding and persuading the people for the last bastion features that Sony Xperia well defended this time on Samsung and Apple if they insisted wanting the features that only exists in Xperia. It is like saying they should get a BYD when you are convincing a person who is a Porsche purist who loves their F6 Naturally-aspirated engine, manual-only Porsche 911 Cars and nothing else.

How can you guys buy an expensive phone with very limited support? It only offers 2 years of major OS upgrades and has poor customer support. Samsung and Apple are much better for the price they offer. Customer support also much beter.

Why not a single YouTuber did full battery test against townr brands...

It uses the VPN feature of Android OS, except there's no actual VPN, its just a firewall.

This. Moreover, Sony's sidebar is way more convenient than the one I have on my Samsung tablet.

Not only that. These are also expensive but functional and reliable work tools for some folks like myself.

Here's a real world use case from this Friday.

My task was to update the firmware on a digital signage billboard. For this, I had to use a proprietary card reader and the 16GB MicroSD card that came with the device (that guy does not recognize any other cards, looks like some kind of protection is in place).

Now If I had had an Apple or Samsung device, I would have had to take my work laptop with me so as to perform the update.
However I now have a shiny new Mark VI that replaced 5 Mark III, so I just downloaded the firmware update file into the smartphone's internal memory, then drove to the site. When on site, I swapped my own MicroSD card with that 16 GB card, copied the file to the latter card, and then successfully updated the billboard firmware.

It was my last ticket for Friday so after that I just drove home — no need to waste time bringing my laptop back to the office per our security policy because it stayed there :)

Kudos to SONY for keeping all the good features in their flagship smartphones.
I wish they started making tablets again, I would definitely buy one.

Crapple/Scamsung are always copying each other. Sony never copies only INNOVATES. Not just changing the processor and selling a new phone.

The best way would be to get rid of all proprietary apps by flashing a custom ROM, but perhaps that's not an option for normal user.

If you use them online, for backup and all, then get a good one from F-Droid App Store.
F-Droid doesn't allow privacy invading content on its store.

The shape and size are somewhat different and I am still waiting for the shockproof case to get delivered so I am unable to share any real-world UX insights yet.

The build quality is remarkable as compared to both 5 Mark III and my wife's iPhone 14 Pro.
The sound from speakers and headphones/headset is better than that of 5 Mark III, both in terms of loudness and detail and "fullness" (I am not much of an audiophile but even I can hear the difference.)

The call quality indoors is great, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are working as expected.

The smartphone recognized my new 1TB MicroSD card from my tablet just fine, which means I will be able to access my reference materials offline. This is a must for me because there is next to no reception on some sites where I occasionally have to get my work done.
The screen will do its job — I have a separate tablet for media consumption so it has not been a factor for me. It is bright and the texts are legible.

Test photos and videos I made look way better to me as compared to 5 Mark III.
Moreover, the increased optical zoom feature will definitely save me a lot of time and effort when working in the field. Now I will not need to come that close to get a clear shot or make a good video — so I will rarely have to make my way through mud, puddles, or snow.

All in all, looks like a totally worthwhile investment to me.

Thank you so much again for that 4K video test. Do you mind if I share your findings to my colleagues if anyone of them gets interested in buying a new smartphone?
