At this price (1000 Euro) I find it difficult not to buy a Samsung S23, where you get more versatile camera setup for 300 Euro less.
But this comes at the cost of missing 3.5mm jack and a lot smaller battery.

Sony have to price their devices lower in order to compete with the other manufacturers.
Their phones look interesting to me, but I always end up choosing something else with similar specs which costs 200-300 euro less.

Anonymous, 04 Sep 2023Still running the 2019 Sony Xperia 5 Perfect for most case... moreAh, I hate docomo variants. I was tempted to buy a cheap one from Aliexpress but realized they are all docomo.

In fact, I bought a refurbed Z5 a while ago but it turned out to be the JP variant. Could not unlock the bootloader so custom ROMs were impossible, let alone rooting. Ended up selling it. And that's when I learned never to buy cheap refurbed Xperias anymore, as they're most likely the docomo variant.

The only thing i dont like that is only 8gb available it should be at least 12 nowadays

I Just Read, 04 Sep 2023In answer to your question UFS 3.0 which is up there with ... moreCan I not form my own personal opinion about something without you coming after me? People aren't mass produced, not everyone has the same opinion about anything and everything.

This phone costs 1000 eur, for that price it should have everything, and I mean absolutely everything. The Xperia 5 IV was just like that and that cost significantly less than this, sensor zoom, or not, they removed one camera and made the phone a lot more expensive, I simply don't like that. Does that mean the phone is bad? Absolutely not, but in my opinion it's overpriced.

Not to mention that 90% of any given comment you make is just gibberish.

I mean, no it's not. Pretty sure you've seen my comments somewhere before, I don't exactly love Samsung to say the least. lol

DarlingYext, 04 Sep 2023That just made this phone another 100 times worse. Sad.UFS 4.0 only comes in 256GB and higher packages. This phone is available in a 128GB and 256GB configuration. If the 256GB variant is UFS 4.0, that makes it exactly the same as what Samsung did with their S23, but somehow that's fine lol.

Perfect for most cases except I cant install custom ROMs(docomo)
Xperia prices drop very quickly compared to other phones but are too expensive at launch
They need to reduce the price a bit

Cut and paste from Gsmarena review camera 5 V
"Dual-camera on the back, 2x zoom is now in-sensor
The biggest change this year is the retirement of the telephoto camera. The Xperia 5 V has a dual camera on the back with a 48MP main and a 12MP ultrawide cameras. The selfie camera is Sony's latest 12MP imager.

'Here comes the elephant in the room. There is a dedicated 2x zoom shortcut on the viewfinder, as promised, and the phone snaps easily 12MP zoomed photos.

"We must admit we did expect a turn for the worst, and we are very happy to report that did not happen. The 2x zoomed photos are identical in quality to 2.5x zoomed ones from the Xperia 5 IV's telephoto camera"

They do offer a lot of resolved detail and likable sharpness; the natural processing is here to stay, and we did not observe artifacts from the in-sensor zoom (read crop from the 48MP center). While the per-pixel detail cannot be on par with the standard 1x output, it is the same as what Sony has offered from its previous telephoto camera."

Here are 2 comments trending on Twitter re this phone.

'That just made this phone another 100 times worse. Sad." (On UFS)

"What did Sony think, when they decided to drop the telephoto camera from the Xperia 5 IV?
"That's the very thing that made this phone a bad buy, just get last years model for less.." (on camera)

This is what it feel like
You run a shop that sells valuable china
You are called to the shop due to Police responding to the burglar alarm going off.
You arrive to find an untethered Bull in the shop

That is the equivalent of what is happening here time and time again.

Only good upgrade from 5 III is GPS (L1+L5) if it's really there.
My 5 III get very hot when playing a game and sometimes even when taking photos or doing something that really should not make it hot.
My previous phone (Xperia XZ1 Compact) was perfect sizewise but I guess we will never get as small phone with good specifications anymore.
Also they broke the fingerprint reader logic in 5 III, it really should only read the finger when the display is one. Now the accidental touches (for example when putting the phone in pocket) will unlock the display. And the one hand mode was broken in Android update, earlier the screen was scaled down and it was usable, now they just hide part of the screen and it just doesn't work in usability wise.
