They didn't lie about anything, they called it a 1-inch type sensor. The sensor is still there, they chose to use most of it to keep the phone slim. Regardless I would've preferred if they just had a single camera with a decent bump, but most people don't like that.

"No wonder the photos look so trash in comparison to the S21 Ultra."

Lmao nice joke, in what way is it trash? You still haven't provided what exact area does the S21 does better in. Colour accuracy and focus go to the Xperia.

"It's essentially the same size sensor just with a garbage resolution instead."

You do realize the S21 is also 12MP after binning right? They do that to emulate the bigger pixels that the Xperia has without binning. I don't know why you believe in the MP hype, but you should really stop thinking that more MP means better photos.

Anonymous, 02 Dec 2021This is much better than iphone. Do you want it to be cheap... moreHuh? Are you slow or something? Obviously it should be cheaper than an iPhone. Apple prices their phones at literally 2x what it costs to make them.

The reason they won't is because Sony's mobile division is scared of continuing to be a burden on Sony as a whole. They were losing money for the company for ages by being noncompetitive. So they know their few sheep customers will die before buying a non-Sony phone and decided to set absurd profit margins to combat their terrible sales.

      This isn't even worth $1200.

I guess there's no point in arguing over this anymore if that's the case. (Though I guess it does strengthen my point that this is absurdly overpriced)

The problem is that people also want a slim phone, while you can do this especially since Nokia has already done 41MP without binning before. I personally don't mind a massive camera bump, but most people do.

I agree with some of the things you are saying, but you are ignoring the fact that that makes the phone thicker and the camera bump bigger

We already have the IMX718 20MP, which produces fantastic images, just need to make this type of sensors regular. you can check out the Huawei Mate 40 Pro ultra-wide images. if you can place this sensor behind an optically stabilized 24mm lens, you will get outstanding output!

The problem is that we are limited because it's also a phone. We either make the sensor bigger, or the pixels bigger, or we work on an insane AI to help capture multiple frames and stack them instantly.

Sure we have the same 12MP standard, but we're using phones at the end of the day. So our options are limited.

SuuperBaka, 02 Dec 2021"MP count is irrelevant to image quality but 12MP is q... moreIt's 2.4, not 2.5 but I think that mobile photography has reached its peak. no matter how large the pp or what the MP is, the result is more or less same. You end up at 4:3 boxy 12MP images and with slightly different color, color temperature, brightness, WB etc. And it's boring now. Same hardware Year after year.

Agreed that MP count is irrelevant but 12MP is still decent and usable for most things anyways.

"24MP sensor which will have a pp of around 1.5micron."

This phone has 2.5micron pixels, which is without binning.

Except it's not the most important thing in photography. Go take some photography courses to actually learn so you can stop embarrassing yourself.

"No factor is objectively the most important."

Except it's the sensor size, there is a reason why FF performs better than APS-C, MFT, 1-inch, and smartphone cameras. The sensor size lets more light in than a smartphone.

"So there's resolution and sensor size."

It's sensor size, pixel size, and then resolution. Sensor size allows more light in the camera, and the bigger pixel size allows more light to be absorbed by each pixel. I'm not saying the resolution isn't important, but it's not the most important factor as you're making it out to be.

"This has a 1 inch sensor, however that's useless without a high resolution. A sensor with a 9x higher resolution and 33% smaller size is going to perform better as a result. (like on the S21 Ultra"

Maybe because it doesn't actually use the entire 1-inch sensor? So you're fine with complaining about how it doesn't use the entire thing in the review section, but now you want to assume that it uses the entire sensor? Very convenient of you.

"You can see it in GSMArena's camera comparison tool. Even in the worst lighting the S21 Ultra produces a better images in all areas over the the Pro-I."

Lmao? The colour accuracy is much better on the Xperia and it has less sharpening done. No need to be biased. Also, define "better".

"An scenario that should theoretically be better suited towards a larger sensor size."

Again conveniently ignoring the crop, but go on.

"Unfortunately, the Pro-I is crippled with a horrible resolution and fails to produce good images as a result."

Yeah, you need to get your eyes checked. The Xperia has better colours, the grass in the snail photos (in their reviews) looks much better than the S21 Ultra. Again the resolution had nothing to do with it since the S21 Ultra is binning to 12MP.

A great looking phone with a great camera . Well done sony !

No factor is objectively the most important. There's mainly resolution, the focus, the sensor size, light, and exposure time. What you can say objectively is that if any one of those areas is too poor the shot will come out poorly. However, if we're arguing about what makes the cameras on this thing good or not, we can rule out exposure time, focus, and light. So there's resolution and sensor size. This has a 1 inch sensor, however that's useless without a high resolution. A sensor with a 9x higher resolution and 33% smaller size is going to perform better as a result. (like on the S21 Ultra)

You can see it in GSMArena's camera comparison tool. Even in the worst lighting the S21 Ultra produces a better images in all areas over the the Pro-I. Pro Max 128GB should be $990, not $1100 in USA and $2000 in other places.

This is not like chinese phones that cost $410 to be made and sold for $1200.
