It automatically shift to GPRS/EDGE or 3G/HSDPA. Which I think is good because there is almost no disconnection even if my laptop is connected to it's hotspot.
I must admit that my Sola Unit seems to get weaker signal than my Nokia 5800 Xpress Music(if 5800 has full bar, Sola has 3bars only instead of 4bars). But I still get atleast 3G connection on my "wcdma only" here at my apartment at guadalupe(I get HSDPA when I move it near the window). And I always get HSDPA when I'm in Quezon City near SM North.
You just need to make sure that your unit has no defect. Try going to a place where people ALWAYS get HSDPA. So the signal is very strong. And check if you can get 3G/HSDPA there.

There is a signal bar ... morehi shino03,likewise here i dont have any 3G signal in my sola (im using globe). i tried my simcard to other android phone eventually it shows 3G signal. i bought my sola last sunday at xperia store in rob place mla.
also, we have the same firmware, i'm not so sure if the new update can fixed this problem. i'm planning to visit the store any time this week for replacement.

i think this phone not good for people who take a serious about battery life..this phone very problem with battery life.cannot stand for a long..it only can stand 1 day i normally..better get any xperia series..

My Firmware bu... moreCall and text are working fine glen. There is a signal bar beside the battery icon on top of the screen but the phone just don't detect edge, 3g, or hsdpa signals(No icons showing on the screen).
I tried using another sim card(sun) and it detected hsdpa for less than a second and it disappeared completely. This lead me to believe that my phone is only having "weak" signal reception and not complete defected signal reception. Am I right?
I've been trying to switch from "gsm only" to "wcdma only" to "wcdma preferred/gsm" for a couple of days now and it just doesn't work, still no 3g, edge nor hsdpa. There is no problem with the 3g, hsdpa, or edge signal on our area, other phones can detect these signals
I also noticed when switching the network mode on my Sola, the signal bar do not change. On my old phone galaxy ace when I switch from one network mode, the signal bar completely becomes unavailable(0 bar) before it goes back again(having signal bars again just like after you set your phone to airplane mode and switching it back again)
I don't know if all Sony phones behave this way. Could you please try doing it for me on your Sola.
Also, I'll try to update my phone with same build number as yours. Also, could you tell where you bought your phone here in the Philippines?

Dear all, please help me on this. Previously I was using Nokia n8 and now i switched to Xperia sola. Coz i love sony thats y. So i took backup from N8 and stored in my laptop. Now am trying to connect my mobile with my laptop to store all my files back on xperia, but am not able to.. when connects mobile asked me whether i can update by PC compaign, i given yes. Then I opened removable disk (G:) its shows memory only 1.7MB. Actually i have space nearly 5GB on internal memory, then y its not showing on my PC. Now am getting trouble to upload my all favourite files, nearly 3 days its took my sleep too. Please bro, someone help me......... :(

sola is new w/ itz new brand sony..
the internal mem is larger than arc s..
dual core is also the advantage.. camera is good..
and im loving my phone now.. :)

I was a Sony lovr wid a Sony bravia. Cyber shot. Walkman. Vaio. Pen drives n home theater. But sola broke ma heart :-( slaggy performance... Dull battery... Sound isnt enough... Back cover feels lyk plastic :-/ doesnt stand nywhere in its range has a ginger bread pteloaded :-( Sony babie hope u do better on ur upcoming phones :) waitin for dem to arrive:-)

AnonD-65077, 31 Jul 2012What should I prefer Xperia Sola or Xperia P??If I have the money, I would have chosen Xperia P instead of Sola. If you have high budget then I think P is good for you.
Anyway, the only difference is Xperia P has higher screen resolution, 8 mega pixel camera, a secondary front camera.
But Xperia P's battery would last "shorter" than Xperia Sola since it will consume more power for larger screen and better resolution(anyway never actually tried Xperia P, just a Sola owner).
The only main advantage of Sola against P is that, it is Way cheaper in price and it's storage can be 2 times more.
