The general public are quite aware of flagship phones these days and that why iphone and Samsung have the majority market share. It seems that Sony always comes last in its class with photography. The problem is in Sonys camera software optimation. This has been a flaw for years now and we all hope that Sony can resolve these isssues. Anyway below is part of gsmarenas review.
"When the sun goes down, things get a little bit too blurry for our taste. On the one hand, there is the lack of OIS. But even if you make it a habit to go out with a tripod, the XZ1 still loses a lot of detail in the dark due to heavy-handed noise reduction, which ironically isn't doing all that good of a job of masking the noise itself. It's not a terrible performance by any means, but it's just lagging behind the flagship competition."

In 2018, Sony is finally making the needed changes. Such as using OIS, changing to OLED screens, going to bezeless screens, dual rear cameras. There will also be edge screens if thats your choice. And hopefully dropping the aged, ugly, brick like style of phones.

I f... moreAll things have it pro and con,same as well for a phone ,even though its a flagship its still have down side not all perfect,even s8 have a down side,but consumer didnt need to picky to much,because all flagship this day all good enough,just choose want has being desire,the only things that is my advice to is ,you should be greatful next,because their alot of other people want xz1 but they cant due to under circumstance,but you,you can had xz1 but you return it back just because a small matter,just a small advice,cheers..

I f... moreDude, i am not sure why you are so desperate to praise the IPhone 8 camera knowing that i have watched tenth of video comparisons on YouTube, read thousands of comments, rarely i see iPhones won against other smartphones, Google pixel 2, Sony Xperia xz1, premium.. Samsung Galaxy s8, LG V30, are proven to be better than iPhone 8, so what makes you do such effort unless you are die hard Apple fan.

I find it fascinating how some fanboys can come up with things to defend their phone brand's shortcomings and flaws. While I have the iPhone I can admit that the screen of the XZ1 and S8 are better than on my iPhone. In some situations my sister's S8 makes better photos than iPhone 8 and I admit that and give her a compliment about her great camera. I'm not a fanboy myself and never will be. To each their own of course.

Its been proven here at gsmarena. and you are an genuine Sony owner. So, thanks for your honest review. Unfortunately, this is a Sony forum thats full of Sony Fanboys that just lie and promote Sony phones. For this reason, only listen to the real experts such as gsmarena here.

Yeah, you're right actually the XZ1 has a better camera than the iPhone 8. Lol just kidding. Seriously, even with the original photos without cropping or zooming, the iPhone is better. Maybe it's just a matter of opinion but I like the 8's photos more than the XZ1 results :)

So much better than predecessors in so many ways that make a big difference at the end of the day. Would be nice if bezels were just 2 or 3mm smaller (I like bezels), but excellent phone with very nice UI.

Oh, now I see the mistake. You took screenshots...
You took 1080 x1920 pixel (translated to about 4mpx) shots of a 17 mpx full res shot...
I do crops of real full res shots for my compares.
I am affraid you made quite a mistake in your compare.
And quite a misleading one.

I played with it for quite some time today at a store and it looked very impressive, bulid quality is amazing much better than the XZ/XZs. Took lots of pics with it and was impressed with its pic quality which had lot of details with punchy colors.

Here is a crop example of arenas own compare...
XZ1 took the shot with 800 ISO and 1/20 shutter(fastest), iphone8 with 100 ISO and 1/4 shutter, S8 with 200 ISO and 1/11 shitter.

Seems to me iphone8 did the worst, XZ1 and S8 are on par....Xperia lost some detail on wall and leafs, S8 lost detail on window railing and doors....
And again, I dont see how anyone can claim XZ1 is not on par with other competition in lowlight?!

But my compares look equally detailed.
Are you sure you used full res photos?Looking at the quality, seems to me you used thumbnails, not jpeg.

Then posted it on Imgur. It was meant to show how Sony's pictures lack in detail compared to the older iPhone 6s and the iPhone 8 in actually all lighting situations.

Hi
I wonder! Why screen to body ratio in XZ1 is under %70 and in XZc, more than %70! However, bezels! Doesn't matter and finally I hope to higher sound in their stereo speakers! Audio Quality is really great! There is no difference between internal speakers or in headphones I guess XZ1 is made for me but price is a few hot actually
