I hope Sony release a Flagship rather than this year but in 2019, with a new SD9xx SoC not based on the Meltdown/Spectre prone A73 Cortex like SD835/845.

I also can't wait to see which new breaktroughs future will bring. I already know graphene ball batteries are coming, and companies are also working on foldable phones, the news about display improvements are great too. Technology is pushing forwards :)

Do smart back light features consume lots of battery? Cause I don't want to ruin my experience with this device. This runs smoothly with default settings.

S8 User, 03 Feb 2018I just saw 807ppi density of the screen and that's just ins... moreIt is definitely insane friend. I have been using it for a few months already and it is a beast! By the way of how it performs and for video playback, it won't heat up at all, compared to my daily driver XPERIA XZ which feels kind of warm after doing the following for 30mins. The 4K display is absolute gorgeous in videos supporting it, and with HDR it makes the videos look more crisp with excellent contrast for me, except like what u just said OLED, it will create better contrast, colors, saturation and especially the deep blacks. But, it is not always the best option. Current smartphone manufacturers are putting it in their smartphones, but the few problems that OLED cause that made me think twice, and drives me to other alternatives. Other alternatives such as mLED, SAMSUNG's QLED or Sony's CLEDIS, these can be considered as OLED competitors, as from what I heard till now, it is neck and neck with OLED, even though these are LCDs, but they are the improved LCDs that are aimed to compete with OLED. I am satisifed with Sony's IPS LCD displays, they have one of the best IPS LCD displays on a smartphone, no doubt. But since technology is pushing forward, I would like to see Sony be one of the first to have a new type of LCD on their smartphone

That's some really powerful screen!
If it was OLED it would be perfect screen.
If Sony brings OLED display with such pixel density, it will simply be awesome!

They do lack on OIS, but the biggest thing that will affect the photo is the camera software, if u have a great camera software OIS wouldn't be needed, but still needs EIS of course for stablization for video. Regarding the team, yes they are one of the best brands to find for DSLR camera for their camera division, but clearly, every division have it's own team, which means that their camera division team is different from their mobile division team, hence I am not that surprised if their smartphone camera software is not as good as their DSLR cameras. If only the camera division can help the smartphone division, I believe they'll have better results than this

(i.e. Sony's IMX377 vs. IMX400)
Dunno if it's just the lack of OIS (at least their EIS on videos are superb) or the camera software... we can't even access to RAW features like LG implemented quite ago and the "Manual" mode is utterly poor (and I'm being polite right now) -
Do they still use a Swedish team for the algorithm on Exmor's or what? How come that their Pictures division is one of the best and most advanced in DSLR's worldwide but in the mobile category they are always a step behind when they alone could blow the competition away?

Professional Mode (sRGB) looks the cleanest to me. Also, de-activating video image enhancement may help. The display is so good, it needs none of these enhancements.
I wanted a bigger screen (and I still do) but I just bought a Huawei Mate 10 to try it out, and it is a great phone, but the dynamic range of the XZ Premium display absolutely blows it away. I'm sticking with the XZ Premium until Sony comes out with a big screen flagship.
I was initially skeptical about the 4K display, but all my friends are shocked, and jealous, whenever they see the detail in the photos I've taken and then displayed on the XZ Premium.
Also, the stereo sound on this phone is VERY natural. Yes, it would be better louder, but it is so well calibrated that it makes for truly hi-fi video viewing experience.
I just wish Sony would make one of these with a 6.2+ inch display. I'd gladly pay over $1000 for that.

Apeiron, 01 Feb 2018Better main camera? Yeah right. At least try to be objec... moreI agree that Sony's camera is a bit underwhelming in low-light when compared to the competition, even though I am a Sony fanboy who buys their high-end flagships every year. First things first, they really need to get the camera software right, the camera software kind of feels like a 8MP-12MP one, in my own opinion. High megapixels count wouldn't work in low-light well, unless there is OIS and better camera software. Clearly it is the camera software they need to improve on, just look for example like the Google Pixel 2, can be considered as the best camera smartphone of 2017 already, even with the 12MP that we see on other flagships, but what made them take much better photos? Through OIS and of course, their camera software which have some AI machine learning, and because of that even with a single camera, it crushes the dual camera high-end flagships. Because Sony have higher megapixel counts than the competition, more effort has to be put in, because more megapixels=more noise. Even though they are unveiling the new "Mirai" design for their smartphones this year, it doesn't mean that they could just slap a new design with a slightly improved software, it will once again disappoint some who are hoping Sony could bring more out of it
