And car stereo, SERIOUSLY, if it has no physical buttons you are a danger to public safety, having to rely on visual controls on a touchscreen. Pioneer car stereo remotes are made to be operated perfectly without ever having to look at it, they could never be replaced by a phone with an IR app.

Do you enjoy complicating simple tasks?

Very good... if the price was 20% less. It's only about 30 euros less than a 32GB LG G3 where I live, which is way too much.

However: I've owned mobile phones for over 10 years now, and I never had an issue with water and dust, even though every of those phones had to take it's occasional water drops when used on a rainy day. Of course, there's environments where you'd absolutely want this, but I can't help: reducing the usability of the device for a feature like that, and selling it to the main stream smells like marketing bullshit to me. The fact that I can buy specific docking stations to circumvent this isn't really plus for me.

AnonD-209094, 14 Sep 2014Ok Philipp, have you even used a phone with onscreen button... moreI'm using my phone primarily for texting, email, browsing the web, calendar, tools, and reading the newspaper or other news, while I don't use my phone for gaming or watching movies. For those applications, navigation buttons are (and should be) present.

I wouldn't say anything against on-screen buttons, if I actually had the same amount of screen estate above the actual buttons (meaning that without physical buttons, I'd end up with much smaller bezels or bigger screens. Also, I fully agree that configurability is a huge plus there.
However, the reality is that comparable phones (e.g. Alpha/Z3 Compact, S5/M8) have similiar sized bezels and similar sized displays, which basially means that the navigation takes up a remarkable percentage of the screen estate. I guess this discussion will become obsolete in very few years (the big G3 seems to make do with very little bezel), but for now, having a compact phone *and* full screen estate seems to mean mechanical...

Personally i cant go back to buttons, esp not mechanical home button like Samsung. And if its one thing i hate it is when my palm makes an accidental keypress on a capacitive button while gaming in landscape mode, with Samsungs that is impossible to avoid, especially on the Alpha, it has the capacitive buttons closer to the bottom edge than ever before.

Android is MADE for onscreen buttons, this is how its supposed to be.

"Xperia Z3 Compact comes with built-in Digital Noise Cancelling technology that reduces exterior noise by up to 98% when paired with the MDR-NC31EM headset. The technology removes the lower-frequency parts of the noise, preventing the high-frequency part of it from reaching the ear. This way, a noisy bus or a busy shopping centre won’t stand in the way of a great listening experience."

AnonD-307006, 13 Sep 2014Pity it doesn't have capacitive buttons like the Galaxy Alp... moreYour Alpha is an experimental device, I tried one in a shop and its sharp edges made it uncomfortable to hold. The on screen buttons will disappear on video playback and for SMS or other functions full screen isn't necessary, whereas with your alpha you need to stretch your fingers to reach out the further areas. The flaps doesn't take many seconds to open/close when recharging- btw recharging is every 2 days only unlike your Alpha which has half the battery life of Z3C yet twice expensive. Now u are so narrowmineded to think that waterproofing is only for swimming purposes-it's a protection anytime anywhere and considering Z3C is dustproof, while u and your Alpha eats dust anytime. You're Alpha is a desperate attempt to copy Iphone which has the same lame battery.
