Again this is something I considered when purchasing the phone. I personally never use a phone without a case. After doing a little research and looking at the designs of cases I decided to purchase a case called ringke fusion. The case has quite a hard back with a plastic rubber around the side of the phone. This was a very good purchase as a few weeks later my daughter got a hold of the phone. My daughter was just turned three and having a tantrum, she threw my phone on the kitchen tiled floor and as you can imagine I was gutted I thought especially after hearing other people's opinion of the device my phone was going to be knackered. The phone was fine and no damage at all. The case did it's job and protected the phone.

What I did was purchase a magnetic charger ( just the cable) and I was dubious of using it. It turned out to be the best decision because now I'm no long using the flap. This will keep it water tight. I never had intended for the device to be used in water but it is a nice feeling knowing I won't have to worry about the phone getting wet.

I think this is a awesome phone I have had the galaxy s5 and galaxy note 4 and the z3 compact is still the best, but I have experience some problems.
1 problem and it's quite a big one it's not so rugged as you might think.. My phone fell of a small coffee table onto a rubber mat and when I turned it around on saw the back of the phone was cracked! So that's it for the waterproofing function.. But luckily you can buy new ons to replace it, and you can do it yourself also if you want to..

          2. My earphone port is starting to give problems now not connecting properly so my sound is not good atall through the earphones. That's my 2 problem in 2 months only.

But like I said I still love this smaller powerful phone!

I love this phone, BUT I am experiencing problems with the flap covering the USB/SD card slot not closing properly anymore.
I do use the USB for charging, as that is the route recommended by Sony.
The seal around the flap is quite flimsy, and has started to come undone at times, and will not reseal completely.
Which renders the phone vulnerable should water come in contact with it.
Sony advertises this feature as a reason to purchase this phone. I'm not so sure it will still be waterproof with the flap hanging off the side of the phone.
            Anyone else experiencing this fail?
            Thanks

Wi, 24 Apr 2015Sony service center sucksNow that I can say does need improvement. It does seem that Sony does leave its customers in the dark when trying to resolve real issues. I do believe for people who have cracked the phone in mishaps should not have to pay the ridiculous repair cost. Hopefully like other phones a third party option should be available in the not to distant future.

zwibak, 23 Apr 2015I bought the Z3C 5 month ago, replacing a Samsung Galaxy S3... moreI'm not convinced the heat caused cracking. 2 reasons, firstly Sony built this phone with a safety feature. When the phone heats up to around the 38 to 40 c the phone usually gives a message and slows down the processor this includes shutting down any apps that may be causing the problem. This feature was tried and tested on the phone before being put in production which was done to protect the phone. The only way to stop the feature is to root your device. Secondly if it was to reach its maximum temperature (the phone would shut down before then) it's not hot enough to crack the glass first the inside of your phone would be damaged before it cracked. Yes I have experienced the device getting so hot the apps shut down when putting the phone through heavy benchmarks one after another. Trust me you will get any where with saying the heat cracked your phone. A nice knock in the pocket would cause the damage or even a bit of a bang on a table. This is why if you told Sony your phone was damaged by heat they would just tell you it will not be under warranty as the heat could not be the cause. Just remember the Samsung s4 when it first came out it would get so hot that it was unbearable to put it to your face when making a call. As time went on software was improved and eventually the heat problems went away. I can also remember iPhone 4 getting so hot and customers would blame their screens cracking back then, again iOS got better and heat problems went away but the cracking continued.

I will let the battery go flat to check if it's not the indicator that fails. Anyway. I whine about this because with a low usage I go from 3-5 days of charge to 2-3, which is still pretty good compared to other phone.

They don't seem to care about this anyway. I just hope the next upgrade they do put it like before, by mistake or not.

Anonymous, 09 Apr 2015Shall i buy z3c ? I affraid i have to face the crack issues... moreI bought the Z3C 5 month ago, replacing a Samsung Galaxy S3 mini. I liked it until I installed auto upload for fotos two weeks ago. The phone heats up when uploading larger amounts of data. This caused probably cracking the back side glass.I'm discussing now about to get it repaired on warranty, finally without success I'm afraid. I recommend buying a Samsung with plastic back, it's not as sexy as the Sony, but much more durable!

hari, 23 Apr 2015got my phone this monday after reading lots of glass cracki... moreOK how did you brake your phone at what hight was it dropped at or what type of knock did the phone take. Please don't make out the glass cracked it self. Logic will tell you glass does not brake on its own. If this is true information could you describe how the damage happened. It might help other's decide to put a case on the phone or not. But frankly I don't believe you. Unless you damaged it your self. No case on any phone is a risk when dropping it.
