I have been using this phone since January and I find it one of the worst phones I've had. It's very slow and it's not waterproof as advertised.

I have been using it for a year and I love this phone.
The size and performance are just right. Upgrades to Android 6 and 7 caused no performance drops. It is perfectly usable with one hand (maybe iphones are tad better because of the rounded corners), has great camera and speakers. The screen could be a bit brighter, but it's not that much of an issue. It's okay for games when I want it, although I did not expect it to be.
The newer version that is supposed to be its replacement (X Compact) does not seem to be a step ahead performance-wise, only some design and performance refinement, so not worth a swap in my opinion.
Occasional overheating aside, everything feels right about it and I don't understand the lack of phones with similar specs. Instead >5" phones flood the market. They stretch the pocket and mostly have other ludicrous specs I don't care about. The only reason I would want a bigger phone would be AR/VR, but they are still not a game changer.

Anonymous, 10 May 2017Huawei P10 is a nice phoneI hear you, I'd gladly pay a premium for a small 4.5" Android with flagship specs. Manufacturers are too obsessed with huge brick like slabs with massive battery draining screens. Apart from the Z5 Compact, the only other phone worth considering is the Samsung A3 (2107).
I still have my S4 Mini too and the 4.3" screen is the perfect size.

Owning a z5c 1.5 years on - phone is still great. With its powerful 810cpu, Android 7.0 and 23mp - this phone is going to be relevant for years to come.

I've had my Sony Xperia Z5 Compact now for a year and it has worked just fine. Upgraded twice without problem, now on Android 7. Nice size, slips easily into my jeans pocket. Enough memory and processor capacity for me. The fingerprint sensor work very well. Camera gives good enough images. Indeed a good purchase!

Shame on manufacturers i cannot find a dual sim phone with 4.5 inch screen and 3 gb ram even though i am ready to pay a premium i am stuck with s4 mini and i am waiting from F**ing 2 years to buy a decent phone. if iPhone makes a dual sim will switch to iOS i am fed up with andriod quality and manufacturers. Google will introduce some bug or remove a good feature in every new Android version to re-introduce in the next iteration to bring down user experience down so that they will upgrade when new version comes. Cheap tricks from google. Android manufacturers are flooding the phone market with big screen phones now so that they can introduce bendable phone from 2018 which could be extended to double the screen size when opened like a book. eg : Samsung GalaxyX therefore everyone has to upgrade again coz of the new Fad.That's how these manufacturers are/can sustain revenue growth. Truth is manufacturers cannot push for Hardware performance more than what it is now people are not expecting to watch 3d movies on mobile we can already see limitation on primary camera currently.

AnonD-458415, 09 May 2017Which would be a good upgrade for this phone?, I currently ... moreAs of now, Sony has not released any upgraded (replacement) version release. If you are willing to change OS, the iPhone SE 128gb would be the only "qualified" replacement for the Z5Compact (minus the waterproofing).

The camera is awful no matter what resolution you pick.
Needs to be rebooted weekly or loses signal completely (tested on two different ones, bought in different time frames and in different countries).
I wouldn't recommend it because of the above issues, but I admit I've seen worse.

Gino76, 02 Apr 2017I am trying another route in my quest to find my next "affo... moreHaven't used the z5 compact but I did have an iPhone SE before giving it to my mum. All the questions you ask (battery life, photo quality, etc) the iPhone SE absolutely shines in! The quality of the device is absolutely amazing and really worth checking out if it's a small phone that your after. As a current iPhone 7 user I'd even go as far as saying the iPhone SE offers the best iOS experience. But in saying that, it also lacks the customisation that android offers.
Biggest difference are the os's. Pick the phone that has your preferred ecosystem.
