Problem is that people are not willing to spend so much money 800 $ on a very small phone that looks nothing special. They can buy a good looking 5.5" phone they can show off for a lot less ...It just does look expensive for what you get...

Eldakka, 05 Sep 2015"The Z5 camera is made in conjunction with Sony Alpha ... moreYou don't require a better camera, don't require a fingerprint reader, don't require better performance, don't require a better design or stronger chassis. So just say that only you feel that Z5 Compact is a incremental update. You don't require all the important things.

Hoping Wifi issue is solved on Z5C unlike what I experienced (xperienced)on my current phone which is Z3C.....my Z3C didn't even upgrade to Android 5.0 over Wifi ..I had to use bundles which was quit expensive considering I pay for Wifi services .

AnonD-89316, 04 Sep 20152Gb of RAM is already enough you know. Now I ask you, what ... more"2Gb of RAM is already enough you know. Now I ask you, what will you do with 4Gb of RAM on this little phone? Play games? well... The truth is, the graphics on mobile games aren't that great compared to Console (PS, XBOX) or PC games. So, 2Gb of RAM is enough for mobile gaming in this size. Or, you want a multi task? Well... To make your phone faster, you can close the apps which aren't necessary from the recent app screen. And don't install unnecessary apps. Then you will realize that 2Gb of RAM is enough (or even over) for this 720p, 4.6" screen phone."
(Sorry, don't know what html or other codes are allowed to do prettier quoting etc)
Actually, under Android more than any other OS I've ever used, memory matters.
Nothing to do with graphics.
It's the way Android uses memory and what it decides to trash from memory. If you have multiple tabs open in a browser to various sites and say switch to another app (send an SMS, or answer a call, or switch to another browser with other open sessions in it) and Android may think you've 'closed' the browser and trash its memory and open sessions. What this means is that when you go back to the browser, the OS will reload the entire thing, re-download all the open pages again. Using up quota download and, at the same time, trashing login-session that are open and forcing you to re-login to sites that you may have open. What this also means is that if you had a notification type-webapp, say a social app or something, it's basically logged you out and now you are not getting notifications from the webapp in the browser because the OS has decided to trash it.
it's frustrating as hell to have a couple-dozen tabs open in a browser, 1 or 2 on sites that you login to (e.g. facebook) that notify you of messages or other events. but because you've answered a phone call the OS has decided to trash all the data memory of a backgrounded app. Then when you go back you have to re-download the pages, so switching tabs slows to a crawl as it re-downloads the pages that you were viewing 3 minutes ago. Virtual Memory management in Android sucks. I'm not even sure if Android DOES virtual memory management.
And closing apps from the recent app screen DOESN'T unload the app from memory. If the application itself provides no "quit" functionality, closing the app from the recent apps screen takes it out of the scheduler tree so it doesn't need to be loaded onto a CPU, but the memory is still there until Android decides to go clean it up.
As to your reference to games and what-not, it wasn't that long ago that a dual-core 2GHz (let alone a quad-or-more core) system with 720p graphics would have been considered a decent gaming rig...

Anonymous, 04 Sep 2015Yes, more megapixels doesn't mean more better camera. In th... more"The Z5 camera is made in conjunction with Sony Alpha camera engineers, so its gonna be the best."
OK, I stand corrected, the camera is significantly better. But as I said, a better camera is not a buying point for me, the Galaxy S3's camera is adequate for my needs. I LIKE having a better camera, the Z3Cs blows away my previous S3's, but it is not an important upgrade factor. I have digital SLR cameras for when I want to take quality photos.
Fingerprint reader? For _ME_ irrelevant. I prefer the security of an 8 digit passcode.
"stronger aluminium frame, while the Z3C only had a plastic frame, glossy glass is replaced by frosted glass which gives better grip in Z5C." Excellent, but again not a compelling upgrade. Definitely a factor in choosing between phones when upgrading, but not a reason TO upgrade.
"better performance, battery, " I haven't seen any benchmarks of this phone yet. Like with a camera and megapixels, a newer SoC doesn't necessarily mean better performance. I HAVE seen many benchmarks of the 810 SoC in other phones, and the performance is not very impressive. The 810 SoC has thermal management problems. It has to turn off it's faster cores very quickly and leave just the low-power slower cores, which are slower than the 801 cores, running. As for the battery, this site is showing a roughly 33% REDUCTION in battery life. Again, a bigger battery with more mAh doesn't mean better battery if the power draw is greater and the total battery lifetime between charges is reduced.

waeb, 02 Sep 2015Good that the back is changed, but is very disapointed abou... moreIt will be thicker than todays high spec, mini phone. For battery itself will take a lot of spaces. And putting a 3000 MAh (pr more) battery on 720p screen and below 5 inch. It will make the phone thicker and 2700 MAh battery is already enough to power these phone for a long time.

There are certainly some Pro's compared to the Z3 compact
Better processor, 32GB internal, better camera front and back, fingerprint scanner
But also some cons, looks cheaper in my opinion, battery life stats have taken a big hit and screen-to-body ratio less.
I'll no doubt still get one :-)

Its good to hear about all the specs about the new sony kid. But I think for a 32gb ROM 2gb RAM is not at all enough. For the smooth and efficient running of the phone they would have at least provide 3 or 4gb RAM. And it will be worthy for the money we are paying for the mobile.

Eldakka, 04 Sep 2015I'm sorely disappointed in the upgrade between Z3C and Z5C.... moreYes, more megapixels doesn't mean more better camera. In the case of Z3C and Z5C, easily the Z5C blows the Z3C out of the water. You're just talking about megapixels, but there's much more behind it. The Z5 series has Ultra fast autofocus, the fastest in the market, better software with more features, improved low light performance, allowing to take 23 MP pictures in superior auto mode, whereas in Z3C only 8 MP was possible in superior auto. The camera software has many new features like RAW, etc. The Z5 camera is made in conjunction with Sony Alpha camera engineers, so its gonna be the best. Also in Z5C, fingerprint reader has been added, stronger aluminium frame, while the Z3C only had a plastic frame, glossy glass is replaced by frosted glass which gives better grip in Z5C. Also, better performance, battery, etc. So overall, the Z5C is a healthy upgrade from the Z3C.

Take my money sony. This is the perfect replacement for my 4.5 inch screen moto g. i love how sony replaced placements of the charging port plus the idea of increasing internal memory to 32gb. Would definitely buy once it is out in the market.

I'm sorely disappointed in the upgrade between Z3C and Z5C. I purchased the Z3C in May understanding that the Z5C was coming soon, but I had to purchase a new phone due to various circumstances and couldn't wait any longer than the 2 months I'd already put the purchase off for. However I thought I'd just buy the Z5C when it did come out and sell off the still newish Z3C to recoup some of my costs. But after seeing the spec sheet, at this point I am underwhelmed and see no reason to upgrade. So while it is saving me money in not replacing a phone that's only 3 months old, I am also disappointed as I was looking forward to the Z5C and was prepared to spend the money - until I saw the specs.
The only upgrades really are:
1) CPU - Snapdragon 810 - however it has known heat issues and in most reviews of this chipset it has to throttle after a few minutes all processes down to the A53 (lower-power, slower cores) and turn off the faster A57 cores. I haven't seen a comparison of the throttled 810 vs the older 801 , but I suspect that while the 810 has its heat/throttling issues there will be no significant performance increase going to the 810 due to throttling. Certainly not big enough to make it an important factor in upgrading to it.
2) GPU - Adreno 430 (part of 810 SoC) - this is a significant upgrade, but may run into the same issues with heat/throttling as with the CPU cores.
3) Camera - more pixels, but how does it translate into image quality? The camera is a tertiary feature on a phone for me, it must have a 'decent' camera, but doesn't have to be a great camera/high pixel. I'm happy with the camera on my old galaxy S3 let alone the 20MP on the Z3C, so this isn't a big factor for me.
4) Front camera - significant upgrade, 2.1 -> 5MP (quality depending, more MP does not necessarily mean better). But I'm not big into selfies or other uses of a front camera, so it's not important to me, 2.1MP was more than adequate for MY usage patterns.
5) Faster LTE modem - again not a big benefit, I've never gotten above 30MBps on the current cat 4 (150/50) modem, so going to cat 6 (300/50) is meaningless when the telco's can't even give me full cat 4 speeds.
5) 32GB built-in storage. Again not a big deal as I already use a 64GB m-sd (40GB used) in the current phone for extra storage, so I'd still need a m-sd card in the Z5C. So again as long as it has the m-sd slot anything less than 64GB built-in is a non-event.
Pretty much everything else is the same (screen, memory) or a regression (bigger dimensions/weight, reduced battery life).
What WOULD have made it a significant enough upgrade to consider are, in addition to the above:
1) More built-in storage - 64GB (128 would be nice...)
2) MORE RAM! I was disappointed the Z3C had 2GB vs the Z3's 3GB. I'm still perplexed that a 2-year newer phone still only has 2GB RAM, I was expecting 3GB.
3) better (not bigger!) screen, 1080p.
4) USB-C !
5) Maybe a different SoC to the 810. I understand that one of the benefits of the 810 vs the other snapdragon
