The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra might actually be the Note 22 Ultra
The plot surrounding Samsung's upcoming device announcements continues to thicken. Honestly, the rumors and leaks situation has gotten so confusing and intriguing that if all of it turns out to be even remotely, intentionally orchestrated by Samsung themselves, some reward is in order. Enough beating about the bush, here is what we are currently dealing with.
As far as we know, August 11 is the big date for the next Galaxy Unpacked event, where we have come to expect the Galaxy S22 lineup, as well as, probably the Tab S8 one. Everyone in the industry has sort of, collectively, been operating under the assumption that just like last year, we can expect to see a vanilla Galaxy S22, an S22+ and an S22 Ultra. Most of the leaks have even come out with matching trios of specs, like for the display sizes and battery capacities, color options and even fairly-precise, alleged size comparisons to the iPhone 13. All of these, once again, assuming the existence of a vanilla, plus and an ultra.
Enter the latest batch of rumors, which claim that the S22 Ultra will come with an S Pen and even have an internal slot for it, just like a Galaxy Note. Rumors even backed-up by supposed renders. That's a bit odd. Then in comes reputable leakster OnLeaks, who notes that the Galaxy S22+ renders he had received and shared with the world, were actually labeled as "S22 Pro". Also odd.
Oops, OnLeaks confirmed the S22 Pro name so I guess I will do the rest:

- S22+ = S22 Pro
- S22 Ultra = Note22 Ultra
Yep, you heard it right. S22 Ultra might actually be called as the Note22 Ultra!

Well, another Twitter industry insider claims to have the whole story and it allegedly centers around ongoing internal naming discussions at Samsung. Apparently, a re-name is being considered. One that would transform the model we were expecting to be the Galaxy S22+ into the S22 Pro and simultaneously make what we have referred to as the S22 Ultra into the Note22 Ultra. The source also goes on to explain that, apparently, this is a fairly new development and one still being considered, which does, unfortunately probably mean that Samsung did not entirely and deliberately orchestrate the confusion.
The whole situation, if we chose to believe in it, of course, does also raise some other valid questions, like what is to become of the Note line and its future? Samsung might be merging it with the Galaxy S line, but then why keep the Note name? Will it just come down to a question of release timing? Device tooling, mould and feature similarities? Then again, why give up the Note name and its legacy and established marketing? Alternatively, could the latest batch of renders and leaks, we assumed to be the S22 Ultra have actually been a Note device all along? Your guess is as good as ours, but we are sure enjoying the ride!
