Not having micro sd memory card for storage expansion, and no 3.5mm headphone jack are the 2 biggest reasons why I hate this phone. The memory card problem can be solved by getting the 128gb version but no headphone jack ?? come on, it's really stupid not to have that. Not even the 835 processor can help.

Also, what's the point having SD835 with 10nm tech and all the bells and whistles for reducing power consumption, but having only 3350 mah. Come on, at least it should have 4000 mah, so it could last all day long. A test video on utub shows it can last 7h35m for gaming, with 4000 mah it's about +19% = 9 hours, this should be much better considering battery life will drop over time.

A could-be-great phone but stupid decision to remove the basics a phone should have really cripples it.

And please, Xiaomi, if you ever decide to produce the Mi Max ultra that I stated below, don't reduce the battery capacity, remove the ir blaster, remoce sd card support, and remove sd card support like you do on your current flagships. Only Apple's iphone can get away with it because a sleek and classy slim appearance and brand name is Apple's ONLY unique selling feature and no Android phone can take it away from them. Yes, even Samsung. So stop copying Apple's removal of headphone jacks, no sd card, no FM radio, etc. Samsung copied Apple's dumbing down strategy in the name of classy but empty appearnces and in the end, lost many of their flagship customers to xiaomi's flagships due to removal of ir blaster. Xiaomi is apparently committing the same mistake.

I really can't understand why Xiaomi's flagship phones don't have FM radios or an sd card support while all its other lower priced phones have those features. Snapdragon 835 is becoming very generic and what sets apart one flagship phone from another really are these smaller, niche things/features: big, >4000 mAh batteries, larger than 6" screens, ir blaster, headphone jacks, sd card support and dual sim support. Almost all flagships with snapdragon 835 have stupidly reduced battery capacity, removed FM radio, headphone jack, sd card support, etc, all in the name of slimmer profiles/bodies and an ip68 water resistant features. They end up becoming too similar and generic that price and brand name becomes their only unique selling proposition which is not enough to change their market share. If Xiaomi wants to grab the flagship market share from Samsung, it has to offer features that the Samsung doesn't have. Copying Samsung's removal of FM radio, removal of headphone jack, removal of ir blaster and sd card support will only make it fare worse than Samsung. Give us a bigger than 6" screen flagship with snapdragon 835 and all of the features you removed above and you can be sure your market share will skyrocket. A Mi Max Ultra with 6.8" screen and snapdragon 835 will sell like hotcakes.

If it's not the blue model, check the rings around the camera. If they're gold (18 karat) then it's ceramic.

Specify one (or more if you have), don't just spread FUD. My Mi account is dated as old as Jul-27-2013 and I never have any single problem with it.

But then again, you can get a 256Gb one for a little more than half the price of other flagships which probably only has 64Gb, maybe less.

Under sufficient light my phone can do 4k@26fps(100Mbps). The quality is great. But then again under low light everything goes massively downhill. To keep a steady frame rate I need to drop the res to 1080p(20Mbps), EV to -1.2 and lock the exposure.

They limit availability by themselves and provide it to 3rd party sellers and sell the same for higher price. Low price is a marketing gimmick. As if they themselves want that their devices should be sold more by resellers than by them itself. Just creating Hype in the name of low price. This company is a cheat. It's just a organised way in which they get more price for the product and lots of hype for their product

GSMArena does not specify if it has an IR blaster and in some people says it has SD support via second SIM space (like other Xiaomi phones). Could you clarify these issues, please?

The dynamic range with HDR is fantastic, bearable noise levels. But the resloved detail is somewhat lower than some other phones in this price range (huawei, galaxy J7, etc). And the panoramas are 1800px tall (could easily be 2500px). Also no proper manual mode. But it's still very good for the price.
From the evening (6:30pm ish) my pain starts. It is next to impossible taking handheld shots. I need to take at least 6-7 pictures for one good shot that focused properly. With HDR it becomes even more difficult.
I've tried google camera (a few different versions) but for some reason it doesn't work. It keeps crashing after taking a couple of pictures. Doesn't focus in pano mode. And crashes the instant I switch to video mode. It maybe due to the lack of camera api 2.
And it is the same story with their flagships as well. Great at day. Redefining shit at night (use the picture compare tool for the Mi6, pixel XL, iPhone 7 - in good light it is on par with the pixel and maybe a bit better than iPhone 7, in low light the Mi6 doesn't even feel like a flagship anymore).

I like my mi5s plus because it built in app for selfie working really well. Pictures look amazing without any editing at all. The rear camera although not 100% like samsung 7 or 8 but still one of the best with DSLR mode setting. You can get better picture if you know how to use it. Learn different type setting for better picture.
