It's probably the labour cost and taxes that pushes up the price. I don't think the cost of the battery production is the cause of the problem, because they're mass-produced industrially. They probably cost peanuts. We in the EU have become too addicted to foreign import. We lost a lot of our skills in recent decades, we're not even capable of something as trivial as replacing a battery in a common commodity. When was the last time you saw EU produce in other countries, other than maybe red wine...

It's also something to do with their phone usage; for example, most people here don't do anything but Facebook, Line chat and online shopping even though they want to own higher grade typically iPhone and Samsung

There's nothing wrong with a used camera, maybe its former owner hastily passed away and his/her family wanted to get rid of the belongings... You might find a powerful camera at a cheap price.

But right now my priority is to see if i can find a good/decent alternative to trade-in my 13T for a newer phone. If not, i will keep the phone, regroup and wait in the new year for the New Year Sales.
As it stands my choices are either a Nord 4 or a Pixel 8 or a 9. Avoiding any Xiaomi-branded phones, Vivo or Realme or Motorola.

So the lifespan of a camera is orders of magnitude higher than any/all camera phones.

They're not everyone's cup of tea; their specs suck, but hey, it saves the paranoia of sudden bulging or dead batteries since you can easily pop open their back covers and replace the battery yourself. Moreover, they're much easier to repair, especially the Fairphones.

You might end up having to pay more for repairs/battery replacements, but you'll often get better repairs than those questionable and untrustworthy offline shops.
If you're still paranoid about phones dying in just 2-3 years, you might want to go for cheaper, lower-end phones so you can save money because you'll be replacing phones every so often.

JimmyTheGreatest, 28 Nov 2024I cannot disprove you, but do please accept the fact that t... moreA colleague of mine's Blackberry from 2008 still works even today, with no bulging battery, while his friend's Blackberry from 2010 is dead after just 3 years with a heavily bulged battery.
Cousin's Galaxy S5 from 2014? Still turns on, and no battery bulge at all, although the battery won't even last 1 hour without needing to be charged again. Meanwhile, his S20 FE from 2021 got a bulging battery after just 1 year.
Outside of phones, I have a Nintendo DS Lite that still works 14 years later, but I've also got a wireless Xbox controller whose battery died after just less than 8 months.
In conclusion, no one can really tell how long these electronics will last. They are man-made products after all, so they are destined to fail at some point, though some will last longer than others. If a piece of electronic fails quickly not because of poor treatment, it's likely due to poor manufacturing quality and bad luck.

There's no Xiaomi service center in my country (EU), but an offline phone shop reluctantly agreed to replace the battery in my F3 for €100. It wasn't worth it, so I simply threw out my beloved phone.

I live in Indonesia, where it's usually quite hot here.

I have never seen phone battery lasting that long.
You must be either-
-rarely using the phone
-living in cold place
All the phones I've ever owned from last decade (about 4 models including with 1 iphone) got battery bulging issue within 2 - 3 years.
Note: Weather here is hot.
Regardless of country, it is still common to hear that battery wears out within a few years, so I think your case is just special.

As we all know camera phones have come a long way and experts believe we have come to a point in time that there is a total lack of innovation and upgrades have become incremental that soon all companies may stop releasing phones every year.
