Munnn, 20 Jul 2024Skill issue dude. First turn off your 5g and turn off game ... moreWhy shouldn't users be able to use the features they paid for?
I was very close to buying this phone until I kept reading about how much problems it has, so I waited for the Poco F6 to be released. F6 is one of the best phones I bought, the only problem it has is the absence of FM radio.

ZolaIII, 24 Jul 2024The time of the boom of costume ROM's is is long way b... moreThere's still people out there who downplay MediaTek, claiming they still make crappy processors for crappy phones. This was true for like 2014-2016, but they've improved drastically ever since they introduced the Helio G lineup, and even more after the Dimensity lineup.
Now MediaTek are giving Qualcomm a run for their money, in fact they're already beating them right now - most budget phones now use MediaTek SoCs because they're cheaper than Snapdragon, and the Dimensity 9300 beats the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in AnTuTu.
I agree about your stance with custom ROMs though, they've fallen out of fashion since a couple of years ago in a similar manner to jailbreaking iOS. Especially with manufacturers taking increasingly preventive measures to turn away modders, or making sure their devices can't ever be modded whatsoever by increasing security and patching loopholes.

Anonymous, 24 Jul 2024True, phones with Mediatek processors are much harder to in... moreThe time of the boom of costume ROM's is is long way behind us and so are the days of QC SoC domination. If you truly compare Dimensity 8300 Ultra with Snapdragon 7+ 3rd gen you will see no other advanced for QC then single thread CPU performance (thanks to X core) but with a cost in comparison to sustainable performance. If you compare GPU's they are on pair regarding peek performance but MALI in 8300 have small advantage regarding sustainable one (while it's a big progress on Adreno side compared to 8 gen 2), NPU on 8300 is a little bit faster and so is the cellular modem. What differs is final product cost and difference isn't so small.
I ain't into gaming on phone (use PC for that, as I always did) but like to have capable phone. Arguably in full blown Unity engine build all mentioned one's can push 20~40 FPS regular/boosted with everything maxed out. Reference is Principles Prologue teach demo.
Edit: forgot to mention one advantage Dimensity 8300 Ultra really have it's AV1 video decoding support which is still lacking on all Snapdragons.

So if you bought a Poco X6 Pro hoping to install a custom ROM, you're out of luck. You would need the regular Poco X6, which does use a Snapdragon processor and is viable for custom ROMs.

Anonymous, 23 Jul 2024True, but you're not explaining in much detail either.... moreIt's about a week of waiting from when you sent request. It whose always like that. Put at the side that I whose a XDA developer long time ago for Xiaomi Mi Max and in short been there and done that, there is a zero reason to do that now and for MTK SoC powerd ones. Sure some things can be better, there is some bloat and adds but it's far from very annoying that you can't put up with. Relax and enjoy the ride.

xiaomi doesn't pre... moreTrue, but you're not explaining in much detail either.
https://www.androidauthority.com/xiaomi-hyperos-bootloader-unlock-3383687/
Bootloader unlocking has always been disabled by default on Xiaomi devices, regardless if they're on MIUI or HyperOS. This doesn't mean you can't unlock them, but it's not a straightforward process like other brands allow you to as soon as you unbox and turn on your brand new phone.
In order to unlock the bootloader for Xiaomi devices on HyperOS, you have to go to their community forums and ask for permission. Then you have to wait until they grant you access to unlock your phone's bootloader. This is more or less the same process as unlocking the bootloader on MIUI.
Xiaomi claimed this is to increase security, prevent data leakage, and for stability reasons. But it wasn't to prevent impulsive behavior that would lead to bricking - that should be users' own risk for wanting to install custom ROMs.
However, all Xiaomi devices with their bootloader unlocked won't be getting software updates unless their bootloader is locked again. This applies to phones with MIUI 14 and HyperOS that are still receiving updates.
In conclusion, yes you can still unlock the Poco X6 Pro's bootloader, but it can be a lengthy process with consequences that will surely turn some enthusiasts away. No one should be forced to wait a whole week or more just to get approval to mod their phone.

Agus Cimahi, 21 Jul 2024Huh? big money? That's the opposite of what I said, yo... moreDid you know that in some cases, repairing or maintaining old hardware is more of a PITA now due to lack of spare parts or playong whack a mole with finance apps?
I got this phone now for less than half of what I paid for a brand new 2020 phone. Things kept breaking and the costs add up. I checked the used price but fear similar issues or breakage will happen. So I doubled the used price of the old phone to buy X6 Pro.
And depending on where you live, some banks are becoming more paranoid that even a simple dev options activated will crash the app.
No thanks. I'll sell my X6 pro in 2028, add a few cash and buy the Poco X10 Pro. 😉

Agus Cimahi, 21 Jul 2024Huh? big money? That's the opposite of what I said, yo... moreFirstly, custom ROMs aren't for everyone, installing them may risk bricking your phone if you don't know what to do, or something goes wrong during the installation process.
Secondly, some manufacturers including Xiaomi are now preventing people from unlocking their bootloader for root or installing custom ROMs. Xiaomi stated that all devices released this year that launched with HyperOS including the Poco X6 Pro will have their bootloader locked, so there's no chance of ever installing a custom ROM on this phone anyway.

That's the opposite of what I said, you can prolong obsolete hardware like out-of-support phone with custom ROM if software is your problem, but if you have a weak hardware good software can't help and that you need to buy a new phone, i.e. big money.
Also Xiaomi don't care if you install custom ROM, the warranty is still valid regardless.
