First they are unreliable especially if you aren't a person with money to burn for new devices and second the instant you custom rom your phone the instant your warranty voids which is a big minus.

Boggy, 19 Jul 2024Software is always more important than hardware. At least t... moreThat's not true, there are a lot of phones from Chinese brands that are well-rounded in many aspects besides performance, storage and RAM. The Poco X6 Pro is not one of them, and it shouldn't be. It's a phone designed for performance, for people who can't afford to pay double or even triple for flagships.
Sure several corners had to be cut, like camera quality, plastic body, and no water protection, but those are just things you have to take for granted with a $300 phone equipped with a processor you'd typically expect on a $600+ phone. Just like you can't expect a Toyota Camry to be as fast as a Lamborghini without having to pay more or losing out on several luxury features.
If you prefer something that's well-rounded in almost every aspect, that's on you. Buy whatever phone that suits your needs and budget, but don't make the notion that performance-oriented phones have no reason to exist. That's the same as saying cheaper sports cars like the Mazda MX-5 and Toyota GR86 shouldn't be sold at all because most people find them impractical for regular use. Everyone has different needs and the world doesn't revolve entirely around you.

Anonymous, 16 Jul 2024What do you guys prefer when buying a new phone?
- Great... moreSoftware is always more important than hardware. At least this is what I discovered in 10-15 years since I am buying smartphones.
One bad software update and even the best hardware will feel like a cheap phone.
Not to mention Chinese companies emphasise everything on chipset, fast storage and as much ram as possible. Practically the specs people look at first time. But what about call quality, software updates, wifi connection, battery, camera, other components inside phone? In other words, the things that make a good reliable phone overall. And in this regard, they fall short of other companies (like Samsung and Apple).
Is like buying a car with fast engine, but everything else is average inside. Is good for speed and overtaking. But what about the rest of things you want in a good overall car?
Is similar with Chinese smartphones.
My advise, if you just want a gaming phone and don’t care about anything else, then yeah buy Chinese phones. They are cheaper than others and relatively good for gaming. But, if you are a serious gamer and game for many hours, then just get a PC or console. Don’t bother with gaming on small displays, you diminish your actual experience.

Anonymous, 17 Jul 2024Every Xiaomi phone (except for Xiaomi 14) released in 2024 ... moreHow about because they increased resolution and brightness all together across the lineup and besides baterry life is pretty average which is good considering all. If you want better you need to go with LTPS Amoled or LCD and such Amoled costs a lot and I don't you are in for LCD. If you want top notch software optimisations along with display you will have to pay for it either in Sony or Apple flavour. As that's about 4x price difference you can buy a life long supply of power banks and another phone and still have change left to treat yourself.

Doesn't matter if they're still on MIUI or already on HyperOS. So get ready to carry around a power bank with you wherever you go.

Hinjei, 16 Jul 2024It's probably because the soc isn't good at manag... moreI've set the screen to medium brightness, restricted apps from running in the background, disabled auto sync, you name it. The performance is stellar, smooth as butter, no issue at all. It's just the battery life. Something feels odd with how power hungry the processor is. I don't know, perhaps it's the adaptive battery doing wonky things and hasn't settled in yet. Or perhaps it's the badly optimized apps (copium), or it could be that the Mediatek 8300 is too much for my use case. I probably should have went with the Galaxy A34/A35 instead.

Just bought this phone, and I have to say that the battery life isn't particularly amazing, it feels like a phone with a 4200mAh battery than a 5000mAh one. I don't play games, disabled 120Hz refresh rate, turned off many features that would drain the battery (app auto start, always on display, etc.) and the battery still feels mediocre. I just did a quick search and it seems that a lot of people were having the same problem with the battery draining too fast on light and moderate use. What could be the reason for this? Mediatek 8300's poor optimization? Bad modem compared to Snapdragons? or is it just the HyperOS?
