Anonymous, 02 May 2023Another solution is to disable Google Playstore Auto Update... more(disabling PlayStore Auto-Update for Maps and then downloading non-bugged version from APK mirror)
Thank you for that hint --- and i actually already did that once ... with a version i thought it would work but the compass got "stuck again" after 2 days ... so now i am on the latest version of Maps.
If you have a Version that works **longer** than just a few hours or days, can you please tell me the version-number so i can try exactly that one on my device?
many thanks. greetings

rolandschweiger, 01 May 2023ok so back to before ... the google map compass gets "... moreAnother solution is to disable Google Playstore Auto Update, download & install not bugged specific version from reputable APK sources like apkmirror or apkpure. That's how I fixed that issue on my Note 10 Pro without having to factory reset the device.

My neigbour has the same phone which was installed from factory scratch and she has exactly the same behaviour so i think it would be useless for me to factory-reset the phone. A shame that this does not get solved - browsing the internet, a number of other Xiaomi phones are also affected by this.

ashrobb, 29 Apr 2023I know you've been very adamant against it, you'v... morebehaviour is really funny:
In Maps i deleted my offline-citymaps, logged out of my google account, uninstallt GoogleMaps updates, forcestopped the app, cleared data, restarted phone, started Maps, it automatically logged into my primary google account, asked me to give permission for accurate location services, briefly showed compass-calibration ... and ...
ALL WORKS FINE - the beam shows into the correct position when ever i start the app and the map will rotate "into the other direction" when i rotate phone.
I am quite sure as soon as i start maps update in play store, the problem will persist again so i do think it is more of a google than a xiomi problem. However i will now simply WAIT for any automatic updates and leave the phone as it is.

ashrobb, 29 Apr 2023I know you've been very adamant against it, you'v... morea complete factory reset does pose quite a lot of work to me despite google saving many things. E.g. i use K9 eMail client with 15 eMail addresses and the passwords + 2FA's must all be typed in newly, this is tiring :) Or i use ZOIPER with a few phone numbers and there is no backup functionality at all .....
i did try installing the updates of Google Maps and reinstalling and the problem persists unfortunately.

rolandschweiger, 29 Apr 2023RedmiNote10Pro Global (256 GB / 8 GB) Android 13, MIUI 14.... moreI know you've been very adamant against it, you've said it before, but you'll probably have to make a factory reset to fix that issue. Doing a full backup isn't hard, Google automatically saves most of the relevant stuff, and as for files and all that you can use a PC. It is a hassle but it is the only solution I see for you.

RedmiNote10Pro Global (256 GB / 8 GB)
Android 13, MIUI 14.0.1 (Global)
Any solution to the Google Maps direction-pointing problem?
Yes i am overall satisfied with the phone and also MIUI and do not encounter any of the problems that so many people mention here - no battery drain etc.
Only one thing which is important to me as a visually impaired.
Google Maps refuses to point into the direction in which the device is pointing, i.e. Google Maps does not properly use the compass.
It works fine when navigating in a car (because aparantly here the sensors are not used and the map will always point into the direction of driving, relative to device screen orientation)
But when pedestrian, the map should "rotate left" when the user "turns right" and vice versa.
Seems that the problem has started with MIUI 14 and it is unclear if Google is the culpit, if Xiaomi is the culpit or both ....... something deep in the system seems to be screwed up. Non of the solutions worked so far.
I can start Maps, go to "calibrate" use "Live View" to calibrate, then the correct direction-pointing starts working (the map will correctly rotate contra to the user rotation) but after about 40 seconds it simply gets "stuck" again.
Have reportid this multiple times to Xiaomi on the feedback-hub, and always downloaded the newest GoogleMpas versions (first the beta ones but now only the release ones) tried it ... and always gave Google feedback that it still does not work.
Does anyone have a solution? Or an idea what is actually causing this, because aparantly other navigation apps + compasses work fine.
Can only encourage others to please also keep reporting so that some developer will fix it.
Seems that other xiaomi phones are also affectedl.

Henry, 28 Apr 2023Hey guys i recently bought this phone brand new and updated... moreSadly this model suffers from battery drain issues across all MIUI versions, with no reliable way to know the culprit AFAIK. I have managed to mitigate these issues by debloating the device using Universal Android Debloater, particularly the Google list and other stuff like Facebook/Meta services. Tested on MIUI 12 and 13, I usually get ~2% overnight drain now and battery lasts 2 days on average with moderate use.
Haven't tried on MIUI 14 but I guess it'll have the same results.

the battery is a disaster after upgrading to miui 14. it's even worse that they canceled the sot display in the security application so that you can no longer see how much your screen is on and you can't see how much they destroyed the battery with each upgrade. this is for miui global model. run away from this as far as possible. Xiaomi ended up with the best return on investment ratio, this is just another overpriced phone, redmi note 12 pro costs 400 euros, xiaomi has gone crazy, they are not normal, for the same money much better motorola, realme, one plus... every upgrade gets worse and worse worse, full of bugs and the battery is getting worse and worse...

I bought this phone around 5 months after it's initial release. Ever since then, nothing crazy happened. The thing is you just shouldn't do anything goofy to the phone and have like tons of apps that you never actually used. It's not only draining your battery but also reduced the performance. What I suggested is to force stop and restrict background usage to all of the apps so the battery life actually improve. Also try having apps like accubattery installed and have your battery monitored all the time and use battery saver all the time( you can still enable 120 hz on battery saver mode). I've been doing this since I bought this phone and I still get 8-9 hours of screen on time With heavy usages like gaming and high brightness on and also 120hz enabled. Just never play games while charging it and yeah.

Real User, 27 Mar 2023I am coming back here to see so much complaints about batte... moreYou're absolutely right. I still running the old MIUI 12 android 11 and my phone perfectly fine can go 2 days and half before I charge, can go 12 hours if a bit heavy to use. People deceiving by newest MIUI update which slowly kill their battery and slow their phone.
