Apple granted 'slide to unlock' patent for touchscreen devices

26 October, 2011
This could mean more legal trouble for Android OEMs and Android itself if Apple decides to take legal action.

              Crazy patent. The signatories approving this patent must have been bought by Steve's "I will use Apple's $40Billion to destroy Android" money.

                        1. Not all Android devices are affected.

                        2. It again a stupid patent of Apple who wants everyone to not use, what they used first. Thats like telling a car company, it is not allowed to use brakes in their cars, cuz Mercedes used them first.

                        There were just a few ways back in the cell phone days, on how to unlock your phone and almost every phone producer used one of those 2 methods and nobody came out crying, just apple is as stupid to do so.

                        Apple = infant boy

                              Yet another reason why software patents have no reason to exist.

                              This is beyond obvious. The slide to unlock pattern has existed for a long time in hardware form, and this is merely a copy of existing technology. I can't understand how this can be granted a patent is if it were "a revolutionary invention".

                                    This is getting crazy. Apple does not patent technology but a human gesture. They should also patent the "notion of turning a key" or using fingers to communicate with a touchscreen. I guess it leaves Android with ...ears?

                                        How much do apple and mictosoft pay to have their weird patents.. android could use double click to unlock.. and single click to lock.. or tap twice on screen to unlock.. no need to slide..
