These are no longer just phones. These are pocket computers (with specs exceeding even low-end desktops). Calling/texting has become just one application and not even the major thing people do anymore. With more CPU power, more apps are made, more things to do on the road, then people need to have larger screens (more time staring at the screen will strain the eyes) - but they still want to keep their pants pockets the same size. So companies wait for improved technologies to achieve thinner devices and while technology to make devices thinner develops (like more processors in a smaller SoC, smaller flash, smaller batteries, etc) makers are able to increase the screen size. Most 5+" phones are no bigger than the Nokia 2110 we kept in our pockets during the 1990's - just calculate the thickness x width of a modern phone to get the "grip" (height should matter less).

What's the point of having such a big screen on the phone? Phone nowadays don't look like phone, they are getting bigger and bigger. If u all wan take such a huge phone then might as well take a monitor out instead!

Not sure I agree with the article. It's one thing to have the specs to match, it's another to achieve the status of competitor. To put this in perspective, I'll have to set Samsung aside and try a better example. Would you consider Apple and Huawei as competitors? The mind of the buyer is a strange thing, despite the quad-core cpu, 2GB of RAM, the large screen, etc. most potential buyers in this range would just skip the Huawei phone - this, despite the line-by-line superiority of their specs over iPhone 5. Even Samsung took a long time to become an iPhone competitor. It wasn't until Samsung made the Galaxy S II that iPhone met a suitable competitor (even now, a lower spec'd iPhone can outsell any Galaxy). What I'm saying is this phone isn't a competitor to the Note II. If this were a HTC, Sony or a Nokia, maybe. I am aware that Huawei is a HUGE company, but quality and branding is clearly part of the competition here.

Huawei, it is too late. Next year, Samsung will have bigger, better device, make your software support better > hardware spec

In my case, 4.3 to 4.5 inch is the perfect screen size. It fits perfectly in my hand and comfortable to use in one-hand. If I want a larger screen, I'll go for a tablet.

if 6.1-inch with 1080p display, the pixel per inch (ppi) sure worse then Galaxy Note 2 or even iphone 5

"Phone" in smartphone has become a misnomer. These are more pocket computers than telephones (phone has just become one app of many). As more and more power can be placed in the pocket, more things can be done on the road. As technology allows devices to get even thinner the increase in screen size is a logical means to make it convenient. Calculate the Length X Thickness of phones today and you'll find they're not bigger than the Nokia 2110 you had in your pocket back in the 90s.

Guys dont worry abt the screen size its very personal preference so dont fight on the same the thing is even if huawai company make 4000 mah battery for 5.5 inch phablet it wud still be lees compaired to note 2 3100 mah battery back up even motorola maxx hd cannot beat note 2 battery back up inspite having smaller screen the point is there is lots of r&d happens b4 u release flagship device like s3 and note 2 and the sales and current ranking figures shows who is best in the world right now cause people r not dumb now a days cause of IT everywhere and no 1 spot talks 4 itself i dont have to praise or be a sammy fanboy for samsung they r no 1 cause they worked so hard and gave what people really want .they invest money to not make smartphones beautyful they invest it in giving best performance out of each and every component fited on there phones with affordable price .

MeeGo Takeover, 07 Dec 2012and it did 3 or more full multitask windows at a time.My Note 1 can now do 3 multi-windows too with Android 4.1.2. The 3rd one being the floating pop-up video player. The S Pen would be the biggest difference compared with anything else.

6.1 inch now is too big? but 5 to 5.5 inch is perfect? WTF is this. The iphone comment was just an example. You guys have been attacking any thing that will eventually compete with Samsung, or is threatening to your samsung products, such as this, apple products, and more recently, Nokia Lumia 920. Flat out Hilarious.
