if this is true, there's nothing stopping me from buying the m8. it's the camera that makes me hesitant about it.

Finally htc selected normal pixel camera. Where is ultrapixel camera? It's better a 13MP ultrapixel duo camera.

"Much-loved UltraPixels"?
Nobody like the ultra-pixel cameras. They were a huge disappointment. It was an interesting idea, but HTC failed to do it well.
They can't just throw in a mediocre 1/3 sensor with fewer (therefore larger) pixels and call that an innovation. It was more like a way of using a cheap part and calling it an innovation.
At 1/3 sensor with fewer larger pixels captures no more light than a sensor with more smaller pixels. That's just dumb. Anyone who knows anything about physics and camera design could have seen through this gimmick the day HTC announced it.
If they want bigger pixels they should have used a larger sensor, at least 1/2.3 (like in the five year old Nokia N86). That would have been an improvement.
And I still think the only thing that can be said about the duo camera is WTF? Get rid of that and bring back OIS which was a real benefit.

They finally figured out they were going to have to screw M7 and M8 owners sooner or later by leaving the ultrapixel crap at the curb, thus admission by ditching that it was never really that good.
The fact that they're not waiting until they release the M9 goes to show how urgent they are to get rid of it.

bubu, 26 Sep 2014Way not 1 inch sensor camera?Erm, because a 1-inch is huge and would require a very think body to fit the optics in. The 1020 only had a 1/1.5-inch (2/3 of an inch) and that required a huge hump to fit the optics in.
