To D -yes I use the new blackberry pearl for leisure and so far its fantastic. To all :-Im used to working with xda's (exec) and this 8100 is much easier to carry around-looks like a phone not a brick and the interenet is quicker than the xda exec -also a better signal (im on o2) very pleased so far - it interacts with the computer superbly and has a fabulous battery life (compared to any xda Ive tried). Yes texting is a bit of a nightmare but im no tecky and Im getting to grips with it after a week -you just have to take things a little slower. So far a very well thought out phone -and remember its designed as a phone not a 6 million pixel camera ! E mails superb -slim trendy easy to carry around -not perfect but a very good step in the right direction.

I love this phone. Finally the PERFECT phone. I hessitated some to change from my motorola V600 but this is truley it. Blackberry's technology beats out any trio, windows & nokia smart phone out there. I've made all my frieds chage to this phone and with blackberry messaging nothing beats it. camera is great & I have full bars at all times. Interner downloads picstures in a heart beat & videos look great. - BUY IT! if you haven't so.

as for the previous user asking about PIN messages the benifit is i can email someone that has a BB without there company/my comapny seeing what i have sent as it does not go VIA the BES (corporate server) it goes straight to the device only person that can read it is the user, no pesky IT manager can read that info! learn your stuff before throwing the statements!

every phone ever released has a "first batch" faults and i challange anyone to tell me different. your probably unlucky users that recieved them, i got a dud one but 2nd one is A1.
i have an 8700g for buisness and a pearl for personal which i have configured for gmail accounts and its the awsome! as for blue tooth sych you cant transfer files as its designed like a safe. BB are secure device that hold critical/crucial infomation its used by wall street traders, underwriters to the CIA do you really want a device that can be hacked via blue tooth? why have a device that can send tripple DES incoded (highest encyption available) infomation that can be hacked by something as silly as bluetooth???? my bank details email accounts password and pins are on my device and i am more than confident that no one can get to them, as for having a degree in IT? hell no my girlfriend after seeing me once, backed up and restored her device along with configuring her email... she is far from techy! im a solutions manager for a telecoms firm so im suppose to use these devices inside out... try using a p990i??? unless you work for NASA or your bill gates, good luck!

What is the point in PIN messaging? On a cap plan you can SMS ANYONE - not just blackberry users - for free... I don't see the point! You could also just use mobile MSN/Yahoo messenger - then you can message people without them even needing a mobile at all!

I love my BlackBerry Pearl 8100. It has all the features I have been looking for in a phone that suits my lifestyle and price range such as a portable camera, day to day organizer, contact listings with all of their information and the functionality of a keyboard. However, there are some problems that I've noticed. This is week 4 with my new phone and some of the problems I have found include:
1. when phoning or receiving calls, I get someone else's picture showing up.
2. on my desktop display under "messages", text messages that I have already deleted still appear on my screen and cannot be removed
Any problems or solutions for these issues?

This phone is great if you enjoy troubleshooting. I've had to return it back to TMobile twice since I got it and it hasn't even been two weeks. First the hearing on the handset goes out second the keys were giving me trouble and doubling the numbers and scrabling. I finally returned it. I'm better off with my T809 although it doesn't have as many functions as the Pearl.

I've had the problem of people not being able to hear me for a few seconds after I answer a call. I also find that it is unable to match up a +44 number when someone texts you with the 07 version stored in the address book.
I also find its lacking on quite a few good shortcut features. PLus how the hell do you turn of the key pad tone when you (for e.g.) press the number 6 on the main menu to go to contacts beginning with J or K.
I'm really disappointed with this phone.

I debated getting the pearl vs the new palm vs JasJam for a while, but recently purchased it. But the debate only got worse as I began trying to get use to the Pearl.
On the plus side: it looks fantastic, is a great size and feels sturdy – and the rollerball is the best way to navigate on a smartphone – throw those clumsy styluses away!
But my biggest gripes are: It mixes your texts with your emails – personally, my emails and text message are treated very differently and I don’t want them mixed ever! The keyboard looks great but is a nightmare to use – T9 is much faster. Also, as far as I can work out, you can’t view any files (documents etc) unless they are email attachments – so there’s no “My Documents” folder. And finally - unless you have a degree in IT, you just don’t need the headache of learning how to setup your emails! Surely it could all be easier!
My conclusion is smartphones have a way to go – but it’s not hard. You just need to take the best bits from each model. The perfect smartphone would have the design of the Pearl (including the rollerball), the QWERTY keyboard or the JAS-JAM; and a version of Windows mobile that doesn’t crash every 5 secs. Stick in an FM radio and some Wi-Fi.in there too for good measure. But for now - I’ll probably send mine back and feel a weight lifted from my shoulders!

Well, I probably don't NEED a blackberry as I just started highschool, but I think it's a wonderful phone, as that is all I'm using it for right now. I haven't had any problems with mine so far, as far as glitches and freezing goes. I'm impressed with it.

To D. I use my phone for leisure, i only got the phone because i liked the look of it more than the functions, the bluetooth sucks on it but its all good. I never have any problems with it ever, never froze never gone funny, apart from the pearl in the middle stopped going right for a couple of days, then it went back to normal! GREAT PHONE!!!!!
