Yeah, the Xperia is the first device that made me look away from the 9502. Nice to have good choices in VGA qwerty sliders right? :) I think I will stick to the ultimate though. The X1 uses memory stick micro (good ol' proprietary sony, eh?). Also, it won't be out till august. And I like the look of the 9502 better. I don't think I like the optical dpad on the Sony, and the 9502 has more buttons. There is a lot to love about the Sony though.

This one was on my list as a must have and if SE release the Xperia X1 before this one arrives, I will go for the SE. This one has been too long in coming. Mind you, we all know how long SE take to finally release phones so we shall see who will win my money!!!

Steve, I would be very worried if it was HTC still making phones for imate. HTC proved with this whole video driver debacle that they dont really care about making cutting edge devices that push the envelope in performance. Older HTC devices outperform the new ones. And so far reports indicate that the imate devices are solidly built. Take a look at some reviews of the released ultimates. As far as release date, the 9502 will be announced this week (maybe as soon as tomorrow). At that point, I think the April release date will stick. Like I said before though, I would rather see the 9502 delayed to make a polished final product rather than rushed out the door full of bugs. Just my opinion though.

Steve - you said it best.

I think everyone here is waiting for i-mate to answer that same question when this and the other ultimates are actually available. That is, if they ever become available. Until then, we can only speculate.

Tawd, you have made some interesting points but I have serious reservations about this phone. Firstly the specifications are so high that it will take a master manufacturer to achieve smooth operation. HTC used to manufacture i-mate phones. Now I do not know who makes i-mate phones. It is easy to write down an advanced spec sheet but far more difficult to make the device work smoothly. Secondly i-mate have a history of making consumers wait many months before releasing an announced product. They obviously have difficulty in realising technical dreams. So the question is are the new makers of i-mate phones technically advanced enough to turn the spec sheet into reality??

sir - you're comparing apples to oranges. When comparing a Symbian Series 60 phone to any Windows Mobile 6 it phone really comes down to personal preference; thus some people will favor the E90 over the 9502, or vise versa. Both perform well in their respective categories (PPC and SmartPhone) and the choice really depends on what you want in a phone.

So, in other words, find the information yourself and make up your own mind on which phone to get.

I really do hope i-mate will develop drivers for the qualcomm chipset, because, beeing a small company, they don't afford not to support the chipset features, like HTC does (not giving a rats ass), or maybe they will make a driver for the qualcomm chipset just to show HTC they mean bussines, especially after they broke up !

xOrangeFirex - The Ultimate 9502 has the EXACT same radio service that the TyTN II does. Both sport quadband GSM and TRIBAND 3G. Every phone out there AT BEST only supports quadband in a 2G bandwidth. But with TriBand 3G this phone will take full advantage of the US and Europe's 3G networks. The only 3G networks that are worthwhile noting only use 850/1900/2100 frequencies anyway, so, as long as there is a 3G network present the 9502 will use it as it takes advantage of all 3. Quadband 2G is not a weak point of this phone, nor any phone for that matter. Think about what you're saying before you say it.

Also, nobody said this would be a TyTN II killer - however, it certainly has the potential to do so as HTC doesn't give a shit about their driver support, which results in a crippled product. Even though the 9502 has the same Qualcomm CPU, there is a strong chance that it will take full advantage of what the MSM 7200 has to offer.. This means 3D acceleration, hardware video encoding/decoding acceleration, TV output, & HSUPA to name a few. Such things combined with a VGA resolution screen definitely bring the 9502 to a much higher level than that of the TyTN II.

So... Now that you mention it, the 9502 actually would be a TyTN II killer because it should be able to do everything that the TyTN II was SUPPOSED to do in the first place, all with a screen that can hold 4 times the information. (ie VGA resolution has 4 times the pixels of a QVGA resolution - hence the acronym, Quarter VGA)

Ummm... The site you just listed shows it available for PRE-ORDER. Underneath the 'options' section it says "Availability: 02/27/08"

                            It's not available right now.

Even the above listed date seems premature, as the I-Mate representatives cited in a post below said they'll be released around april '08. Even though this is the basically the best phone to date, don't get your hopes up for it to be released any time soon.

I'd rather wait for this device than buy a half assed driver lacking HTC device or a buggy memory anemic ETEN device. I hope the delay in this device is that they are choosing to fully develop it rather than rush it out the door full of bugs.
