and what is gorrila screen someone tell me ?
i planning to buy it after i get my holiday job pay :D
i have drop and spoiled alot of phones , i once broke the glass of an iphone and drop a phone into water. I rlly think this phone suits me :D

Just got my sexy black DEFY from Voda here in the UK. Really like it already. Excellent screen, responsive interface, great sound. Will need more time to get to grips with Android, having migrated from iOS. Such as how to get my Apple contacts to Android! :P Anyway, a great phone from Moto, and evidence of their experience with wireless technology (hence call and WiFI quality) and commitment to innovation in the form factor.
All we need now is Froyo and 720P video! Is this on the cards guys?

Motorola will not commit that the phone is more than water resistant however check this video link which has the phone ringing and answered underwater with no obvious problems hours later... It is even dropped on wood and concrete floors multiple times and still works well done Motorola... the teenage and outdoor or sports types will LOVE IT

According to some, it's even faster than Galaxy S. There goes the fact to those who focus much on numbers on paper.
Yes, this is the 8th Moto Android phone I got this year, time to rest for a while...(for my wallet!)

This phone has great voice quality and speakerphone. Battery life is also good for android - two days under normal use. Phone works well, I am very pleased with it.

Motorola working on two DEFY-like rugged handsets, planned for Summer 2011
The Motorola DEFY has earned a special place in the hearts of many with an active lifestyle simply because it is the only rugged handset that is both tough and smart as in a touchscreen smartphone. But that is set to change as Motorola is working on two DEFY-like rugged handsets, which will come out as soon as the summer of 2011. While you might still want to consider this a rumor, it comes from a proven source – the Russian tech analyst Eldar Murtazin.
The handsets will have half the price of Motorola DEFY and still be touch-enabled. And while they will not be fully waterproof, the rugged handsets will still carry the IP54 International Protection code for rugged handsets, which grants them “a degree of protection against falling dirt, rain, sleet, snow, and windblown dust; and that [they] will [be] undamaged by external formation of ice on the enclosure”. In comparison, the Motorola DEFY carries the IP67 code for a waterproof rugged device.
Murtazin didn't reveal any details about the names of the handsets, but mentioned their visual appeal and their candybar form factor, the same as in the DEFY. And while most of the Motorola DEFY units slated for Europe were plagued by faulty earpiece, we certainly hope that Motorola will pull these two off successfully.

Impressions
Ringtones are loud and the vibro is equally hard to miss. As to the communication quality the model is rather interesting. Overall I don't have any complaints here. Everything is excellent.
In European samples of DEFY we have defects in the speaker. It is a manufacturing defect, which probably affects almost all handsets. Under warranty you can replace the speaker, which has to be done independently if you live in countries without authorized Motorola service centers. I will not dwell for too long on this issue as it has been covered well in Spillikins, so feel free to read it again.
Motorola DEFY Defect
It is unpleasant to buy DEFY with defects, but it is the only disadvantage of the phone, which is attractive in all other respects. It will surely affect the sales, but the model offers unrivalled value for money anyway. It is the first Android smartphone with IP67 protection. Secondly, you get a MOTOBLUR shell to complement a standard Android interface with success (gallery, music player, widgets with customizable size, etc). Music fans should remember the absence of equalizers is a definite minus. The sound quality is decent nonetheless.
The phone has its character and is pleasant to use. We get enough differences in comparison with traditional Android to enjoy the handset. As a user of HTC Desire I can confirm that DEFY was quite convenient in work with.
I clearly like the phone. It is compact and relatively inexpensive. You can buy it officially only in the USA, UK and Germany. It costs around £235 in London, while in Germany it is a bit cheaper.
In its price segment the smartphone definitely impresses. This good Android solution has many strong points. Add protection and we have a phone without competitors. I wouldn't recommend ordering any other model from abroad, but in this case the risk is justifiable as Motorola DEFY is too good to miss. There will be no official sales in Russia, because Motorola has left this market.
As a bonus for those who impatiently waited for this review I can say that Motorola is planning to launch two similar models in the summer of 2011, but they will be almost twice cheaper and will not work in water (IP54 standard will be used instead of IP67 there). These touch screen candybars will look attractive on the outside too.

A friend of mine has an N97 and I can hardly hear what he says. Never being such an issue with my friends using Motorola U9 and XT701.

from the last so many days I am reading the expert views on this wonderful piece of product. such a compact 3.7 " screen, rugged phone.....it looks like that very soon Defy will be the hot topics on all the android community Forums because of its performance.....

I would like to have the phone even WITHOUT the front camera. My new phone(Samsung Omnia HD) has a front camera, but I don't use that feature. I don't care if my phone has or NOT has it. What is important for me is that the Defy is WATERPROOF up to 1 meter, and it has Android! These are the most important things for me. :)

Anonymous, 16 Dec 2010Is the speaker problem hardware or software based?Heard is more of hardware issue which can be fixed easily. If you bought your phone through the official distributor you can easily get it repaired within the warranty period.
My local Moto distributor may not be the best in terms of offering the widest range of Moto phones, or does it do a good job to get new phones like other markets (I pre-ordered my Defy last week and it won't hit the stores til Dec 20 the earliest), though it can "repair" (mostly replace the motherboard) within 4 hours, yes, 4 hours! Not 4 days, not 4 weeks!

Why manufacturers save 50cents of... moreI'm always curious why everybody starts to ask for the front camera AFTER iphone4, whcn Motorola first offered such feature back in 2004!
Over the years Moto "had been" offering front camera phones on almost all of its 3G lineup, until the Q9.
Yes, I do appreciate front camera phones, and that's the reason why I still keep using my Motorola V9 (which supports video call with only one cam), but the unfortunate fact is most people "demand NOT" to use the front cam, as shown by video call usage by various network service providers.
Most Android phones don't offer front facing camera, as I heard being more of the software issue, which maybe fixed by Android 2.3 or 3.0.

Similar to Apple, all Android phones offer the "back" or "cancel" button, so you can simply try almost everything you want, and in case you are not sure, just click "back".
Installing apps can never be easier! I had quite a headache with my previous smartphone, which was Windows Mobile. This time with Android, everything is a snap of a finger.
Maybe you can go to your local electronics shop / network service providers and just get a head start. Once you start using it, I'm sure you'll fall in love with it.
To me, Android offers almost everything an iphone does. My wife uses both iphone and Android Moto Flipout. She uses the iphone in front of her friends....the rest of the time she uses the Flipout.
