Motorola DEFY is an awesome phone, my step-dad is absolutely stoked about his, and he's had no dramas with it. I own a desire HD, and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a phone that'll do just about anything you want. I rooted mine (now I have root access to the phone's file system) and put an awesome version of Android on it called "Leedroid 2.2.1" That overclocks the cpu a little (correct me if I'm wrong) to 1086mhz and somehow improves the battery by %20 and does a heap of other things. Google leedroid to find out.. anyway, its awesome as. Only big downside I have is that mine doesn't operate on Telstra's next g network...

And i am not attackig motorola,i really dont care of companies, i just know that i love my little android phone!!! that look's like a samsung(shinny.. ok not so much...) and unlocks like an iphone ;)

Joseph, 19 Mar 2011Guys,
I'm planning to buy a new phone on the 27th and I'... moreMotorola Defy is heavy-duty smartphone, but if you're looking for performance only than HTC Desire HD is better (if you can afford it 'cause it is also much more expensive than Defy). Desire HD also has much worse battery duration, it's definitely not as compact as Defy and has pretty bad signal reception.
Nexus S is currently technologically speaking the most advanced Android smartphone available and also you can buy about 2 Defy's for 1 Nexus S. It will also be better supported and receive more software upgrades than any other Android smartphone (and faster than any other 'cause it's Google's official phone) Thou if you're looking for ruggedness you still should seriously consider buying Defy (Defy's signal reception is better than Nexus S's).

Dear Defy users,
Does Defy has 'Speech to Text' feature? Does any one use it while typing the SMS?
In youtube it does show that there is a 'speaker' icon on keyboard while typing SMS but i do not find it in Display models of Defy in Mumbai.
Even the User Manual available on Motorola/in website shows Speech to Text facility.
Can any Defy user share his/her experience?
Thanks

I purchased this phone on Feb-27 and it was a DOA. A black line on all the pictures taken with the camera. It was replaced and the replaced one also had issues like freezing intermittently. The phone restarts automatically in speaker phone mode. Motorola is replacing the phone again..I'm yet to receive it. I'm expecting a defect free phone this time..

Dear nnc
Thanks a lot for the answers :). It cleared all my doubts. Just consider me a noob and help me on a last point. If I do go ahead and purchase it now before the froyo upgrade, how difficult it will be to do the update myself once it is available? Can I do it myself or will I have to take it to the service station.
Regards

android_lover, 18 Mar 2011Dear friends, I am planning to buy my first android phone. ... moreYou should still try to avoid any drops (it may be extra sturdy, but it's still a high-tech gadget - not a log ;). As for your questions:
1. battery: 2 days top (~20 min. calls + ~10 sms + ~ 2h browsing + ~2h total for games, videos and other functions -GPS,WiFi,Bluetooth closed). 12-16 hour uninterrupted first charge and a few full charge-discharge cycles are necessary for optimal charge duration.
2. excellent voice clarity,
3. froyo upgrade in 2Q 2011 (for Europe),
4. not for me (and I use Firefox Mobile + a few other apps all the time - haven't tried with all games thou),
5. I had no problem (froyo will enable install. on SD card).
