Editorial: Samsung, sort out the GPS and Bluetooth on the Galaxy lineup

25 October, 2015
I am an avid phone user, but I don't need that much from a device. That's the reason why throughout the last couple of years I am mostly using a current-gen iPhone as my primary device. But I always try to stay in the Android and Windows loop, so I often experiment with my secondary smartphone.

Regarding all the comments negating your description, it is a shame that a journalist is using his position to blame an entire company and ask then to fix a problem that is obviously not a problem to the cross but for a few unlucky people. Having said that it only affects a few, the question raises of it is really the phone or something else.

I have had the galaxy s, s2, s3, s4, s6edge, note 3, note 5, tab pro 8.4", tab S2 and not once experienced that issue you having with your device, like others have mentioned, i find it strange that you have the same issue with all them devices. occasionally with the odd device but not so many especially the newer ones, perhaps look at you other hardware/software not just your phone

Have been using the Note 3 for almost a year now. Honestly couldn't have been more happy with the phone, except for GPS. I don't know whether this is hardware or software, but GPS is really weird on this phone. There is an app called TopNTP on Play, and if I don't use that then sometimes even under clear sky I might not get a lock! Just two weeks ago I was in my car travelling to an unknown location and I couldn't find a GPS lock even after five minutes! I have no idea what the heck is wrong! Anyway, that app sorts the issue out, but still, why would I need a third party app anyway? Mine is the Snapdragon variant by the way, and I am using it in India, where that version was never officially released, so running a ROM which is non-Indian, so of course not Indian CSC either, don't know whether that could be a reason or not. Note 2 on the other hand had flawless GPS! Never once I had any problem with it, even in indoors it would give me a lock almost all time within 30 seconds, but that was running on an Indian ROM!

In any case, I have NEVER seen GPS going that weird ( Not with any phone, be it the Note 2 or S4 or Moto X or HTC M7 or LG G3 .... any!!! )and shows me that I am in another country or place, is that a joke or the author is being serious here? I have heard countless people got lost with Apple's Map fiasco, but exactly when people started to get lost by having a Samsung flagship? I am sorry to say I am finding it really hard to believe that, and not only Samsung, other than Apple, I will find it hard to believe for any OEM! Even a cheap phone like Asus ZenFone never does that!

Anyway, I don't see any Bluetooth related issues at all! Never had a single disconnection with my headset, but I can't say anything about connecting my phone with my car's BT!

In any case, this is really an issue going on worldwide, affecting multiple users? Or this is just a trolling article? The user's main phone is iPhone anyway, so .... !

It might be a software issue since it's not universal enough. Samsung updates slowly their phones and on top of that, different carriers have to add their stuffs in it so maybe it's samsungs from specific carriers that have problem. Apple controls 100% of the software and updates are incredibly fast and regular across all (but really old) devices and usually, if there's any problem, we know it's hardware and apple stores will gladly exchange you for one on the spot (though refurbished) if it's still under warranty

lovely piece, but the problem is the fact you mentioned iPhone a little bit too much for my liking, this calls your point of view into question because you might be a fanboy. You say Nokia/Microsoft phones that you have used don't have this problem but you don't go on to praise them like you did Apple - I don't know but I'm less inclined to believe you. I haven't owned a Samsung phone and I don't plan to either.

I've had Note 2, Note 3 and S5. I have never experienced a single issue of those. Its just bizzare that the same problem keeps happening to you with almost all the smartphones u used.

I have had Galaxy Gio, Galaxy S1, Galaxy S3, and now Galaxy S6. Also have Galaxy Tab S 10.5 and Galaxy tab pro 8.4. Except for the Tab pro 8.4 which tend to loose the GPS signal earlier than the other devices, both GPS and Bluetooth worked flawlessly in all devices (I didn't test the Gio Bluetooth) and in every place I have been (several European countries, USA, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Marocco, Eritrea). In your case I would ask the store for a replacement.

How come these issues are only mentioned here and not in the reviews of the individual phones? Not having a GPS that locks on in the correct location is something people would like to know about before purchasing a phone no ?

I have never once had any of these issues on any of my Samsung Devices from my S3 to my Note 4. My parents have never had these problems either and they have had the same phones as me. I don't know why you would even have GPS issues, BT I could understand but GPS?
