Most of us cannot see the importance or use of Camera phone because we are not living in a world for Camera, our world here on GSMarena is mostly about mobile phones. If you go over some photography community you will realize the uses.
So in my opinion yes there are users who take snaps day to day basis, even hour to hour basis, doing whatever they can do using the limited camera on cell phones and being artistic or just using it for their business or inspiration or other uses.
There are people whos major equipment is a camera and they carry phone just to well deal with the calls so basic phones they use.
With handsets like this, or N8 or Satio they now have options to explore more of that world.
Handset like this with optical zoom control, specially coming directly from Camera makers could popular in photography community. And because this (unknown for us) company is behind other companies, it is possible one of those companies are good in dealing with mobile phones and backing this company up so chances are bright.
Will it come over N8? I don't think so, for regular user N8 will be first choice due to brand.
Altough this set look good but N8 has its advantages, lot of them. N8 (or alike sets) are for hardcore mobile users with better camera option while this one seems for hardcore photographers, comparing them over MP is not fair at all.

nice phone ~ hopefully will be a new contender in the phone market, at least in the camera phone line.
Besides, i think this phone will be bombastic if they include good lenses and good sensor. Carl-zeiss on Nokia,Schneider-Kreuznach on LG and Kodak lens on Motorola is a good example to follow. And you know, people are looking forward on brands and geeks are looking on the performance. This phone should 'feed' both this groups in order to win.
The phone usability will be good if Android installed of it, and costumed camera UI will be a must. The UI should be easy to use, (I don't really want the rotating dial UI like on most LG camera,) a simple UI just like on most Sony camera will be a bonus.

Ya, thanks to ALTEK 14MP HD, so this may go better and better to make lot of photos, and see pure image by any machine, so it's real as we can see but exist someone who got it or maybe test it to feel those all?

SE 2010, 28 May 2010The point is very simple, this may have a great camera but ... moreAltek are releasing it on their own schedule. I really don't think they are worried about N8. They have their own clientele in Asia. And the majority of their profits are from OEM parts. The impression you got is from the stupid comments in this thread. Nokia haters will take any opportunity to bash the brand (I suppose they are also Apple fans by extention). This news is about a company trying to get into the market. That's all. Before this company can be taken seriously, they need to 1) improve their devices to the point of being competitive and 2) widen their production and market availability. Until that happens, they will not be a competitor to be taken seriously.

Good specs on this camara phone! With xenon, flash, hd video and optical zoom which is a rarity for camara phones, this should be nice. It would be nice if Altec use continuos auto focus like on sony ericsson vivaz also.

The point is very simple, this may have a great camera but it doesn't make it a good phone by any means? And what about the support? Do you think this altek or what ever will have good support and provide you with good customer care service with this new phone???
Why take a risk to just get this phone while their are such great camera phones such as the SE Satio and Nokia N8 which are brilliant smart phones and also are capable of taking very good pictures.
Altek may think they are smart releasing this before the N8, but trust me this is not going to have even 5 percent of the sales of the ultimate coming nokia n8. I think only a naive person would really fall for such thing.

chocoberry, 27 May 2010What is important is sensor and lens size, not the MP itsel... moreThe lens is 'huge' but the sensor is smaller than Nokia and actually smaller than Canon IXUS line.

Personally Sorry to everyone.. I dont want to annoy any of you guys.. No doubts, This phone has a decent camera.. My posts are for them who says N8 is outdated and others phones are better than it. I personally feel N8 provides most of all the specs a user want..!

For me i don't really see the need for 14-mpx on a smartphone, many people don't really take pics using their phones and if i'm to take photos using my phone then they'll only be for uploading on social networks like facebook which really have a hard time dealing with very large photos (they do have a size limit )and 5 mp just does the job right. This company has entered the mega pixel race in good style but it'll take more than that to make me really consider buying this phone ,does it have good network reception ?does it have proper support ?what os is used ? And mostly important it shouldn't be bulky and heavy ! Just the right dimensions to easily fit in my pockets

[deleted post]And why should I be defensive? I am not even promoting this phone, nor will I buy it, lol. I simply noticed Nokia fans disliking this phone and already pulling it down making discouraging comments about it. I am simply amused by Nokia fanboys behavior and personality :) That's all :)

Geez! I don't hate nokia. But nokia fans are starting to annoy me. LOL. Note this: NOBODY IS FORCING NO ONE TO BUY THIS PHONE OR ANY PHONE YOU DON'T LIKE! You can stick to any brands you prefer. Grow up kids!
If this comes with the new Android OS (well if it is Android), I'm buying. Yeah we heaven't heard Altek before. But Google is not gonna ruin their name just like that (again, if it runs in Android).
