Anonymous, 27 May 2010So you think that Nokia is the only company who knows what ... moreCall a spade a spade, right? I'm intimidated by the number and that's it. But already from the picture of the back of the phone you have the details of the lens, sensor and camera size, that's why I'm being pre-judgmental. I might be wrong =]

so we shall see how this performs in the end.

Nokia fans are so quick to start pulling this phone down because it is a threat to their N8, lol. No one is telling you to forget your supported brand. I don't think anyone can change your mind even if this phone proves to be better, Nokia fanatics like you would still go for the N8, right? But that does mean that other companies like Altek should not be given a chance to produce their own camera phone? What is wrong with you? You're so defensive, lol.

Give this phone a break. You are already putting this phone down without even seeing results. Why? Because just like your other nokia fanmates, you are insecure and intimidated by the camera features of this phone which has outdone your N8.

How much storage will it have? USB OTG? I don't wanna pay over $500 for a phone that doesn't have the capacity to store it's own pictures. I don't wanna pay extra for storage either on top of that. If this phone will cost more than $500 it should at least have some good internal storage so you don't feel ripped off.

By the looks of it, it looks really nice
14mp hd means at least 800 mhz for sure
                  ram at least 256
and the rest should be good

the price will be high though... maybe 1000 dollars LOL

That just because this is the first 14MP phone and is released before the others people are gonna forget their favorute brands and go buy this Altek phone? I don't understand what you trying to say?

Is someone walked up to me on the strett and offered me to choose from the N8, Nexus One, HTC Desire or Altek phone, i would still not even look at Altek, even if it had a 25MP camera.

Who told it is even a good phone, good sound, good reception, good media qualities etc etc except the camera? Do you know anything about it at all?

No thanks, you are more than welcome to go buy this Altec phone and walk around town taking close up HD photos of flowers and trees, me myself i will stick to other reasons for buying phones, which is using it as a phone.

What is important is sensor and lens size, not the MP itself; still this phone got a HUGE lens. It's suppossed to have huge sensor also, compared to other cameraphones. Its lens suggests F=6.5-19.5mm f/3.1-5.6, so I guess it's around 35mm equiv. 35-105mm or something.

I want to say this. If one doesn't need 14MP w/ 3x zoom, then he does not also need 12MP. And that's what Nokia N8 is. N8 has no comparative advantage with current smartphones except for its wonderful camera.

DiSTANGuished, 27 May 2010Why the hell are you comparing an Android phone to the N8? The only thing I compared in terms of Android is which version it will get. Everything else is about the specs.

well this is a good phone. but sadly sharp/samsung have a cameras with optical zooms. but sadly they are built like a brick and heavy.

if someone could make a phone build like a iphone say with optical zoom and 8 meg cam. then you have a massive hit on your hands.

What's up with the MP mania? Who the hell needs a 14mp camera with optic zoom on regular everyday basis? People in average take like 5 photos a month with their phones nowadays.

If i want 14mp camera with digital zoom for special occasions, gatherings and parties i will get a regular digital camera, which will by the way will at least twice as small and at least twice as slim as this big Altec brick, and on top of that produce much better photos.

Other than that nobody actually needs more than 5mp with xenon flash on their phones, unless you are planning to print out the photos to poster sizes you won't see any difference whatsoever on a phone screen between a good 5mp shooter and a 12 mp.

This hype from 14 year old "Speckids" is annoying.

Altek is a camera company not a phone company! And therefore it will not be wise at all to go with their phones just because they have a good camera on it! After all we must remember the main reason to get this is the phone then the camera not the opposite!

So stop fooling your self by comparing this to the N8, satio, vivaz or what ever. Altek wants to produce something new good for them but hey I'm not going to be their victim. Besides, how many of you even heard of altek till now!!!

even though this has bigger megapixels, the CCD sensor, focal ration and lens need to be on par with the N8. Otherwise there won't be much of a difference.

Also, as an Android smartphone, it should be running the latest version of Android. 2.2 is it? If it doesn't, who knows when buyers will get an update to Flash. Consider also the internal memory. Does it have anything over 8GB? The N8 has 16.

Finally, does it have 5-band 3G, or 3-4 bands. The main reason why I'm buying an N8 is because it will support virtually every GSM provider's 3G bands.
