Apple squeezes the reception out of Nokia N97 mini

21 July, 2010
Apple seem keen to prove other smartphones have the same reception attenuation as the iPhone 4. And they are getting back with a video of Nokia N97 mini that suffers from the same grip of death as the iPhone...

The truth is that subject came up because it turned to be a problem in use. In test lab everything can be a problem.... Why they don´t admit they made beginners mistake and fix it?

I am not a big fan for these two companies
Whats the different between Microsoft & Apple? .... Professionalism

XBOX RROD (Red Ring) : Microsoft extended warranty and offered free repair or replacement.... not once they b!tch about other companies. they even admit the fault and tried to rectify it... hence cooler cpu, different heatsink etc..... did bill gate ask you not to play games for a long duration? (you need to give the machine a break every 30mins) or did you angle the xbox the right way? NO.... even though i dislike the guy... he aint no unprofessional arrogant skinny old f4rt who love to dictate part of your leisure life.

iPhone4 (Antenna) : B!TCH B!TCH B!TCH!! and a free case ... WTF? free case for all 5heeps who wants to keep the FLAWED design fault device. apple designed the slimmest smart phone* but they want you to use a case to make it fat and ugly? what if you dont want to use a case? Any suggestion of a recall?? any suggestion of we will look into it and fix the problem?? NO!.... they just B!TCH B!TCH B!TCH!! this is how you hold it... you need a case for it.... F**k u steve jobs, stop telling everyone what to do.

        Happy days xxx

Well, i just found a CURE for 'iPhone 4's reception problem!!!'

It works 1000% for me, ive tried several tests and it passed with flying colors!

I hope Apple is reading this because this might be the solution to their problem with the iPhone 4's.

          Unbelievable?

Well its really n0t hard to do but its w0rth a try.

          "NEVER TOUCH YOUR iPHONE 4."

That's it, reception problem solved! No need for the cheap case.Ü

I never get tired of reading all this...
The wisest thing apple should have done is to just keep their mouths shut and sort out the issue. Instead they go pointing fingers at other comanies.

Steve Jobs is being very immature about this. Even though the nokia has reception issue it cant compare to a phone like the iphone 4 that probably costs double the price.
The fact is when you pay so much for a phone you expect it to have no hardware issues.

I have nothing against apple but issue such as these have made me a happy android user.

I tried some different grips on my n95 and guess what NOT A SINGLE BAR DROPPED
With the n95 phone (2007 release ) can do more stuff than with iphone4 (2010) multitasking , videocall, video call over wifi "via fring and skype", can use flash etc.
One thing iPhone4 is forward coz it has Farmvile and Yovile .... sadface

                    Nokia - Connecting people
                    Apple - Disconnecting people

If that ever Appears as part of Nokia Ads, I'd be to embarrassed to own my iphone.

                    Legally could they do that?

the other thing is Apples sales includes, mobile phones, mp3 players , computers , software and other crap stuff .
Where Nokia`s sales includes MOBILE PHONE SALES. How can you talk about those numbers ? they are totally different.

no nokia does not makes lots of money..but i myself is an iphone 4 user..the point here kid is not who sells the most or who has some strong or weak signals..the big picture here is called Proffesionalism..and i dont see it in apple/steve jobs by doing this lame A$$ cheap shot trick. If the company is at fault they should know how to accept responsibilities and fix it fast..not blabbin and pin point at other companies. Wheres the ethics in that? i know my ip4 loses signal..but i still love it,but honestly really need to have it fix. i am dissapointed however on how apple/steve jobs behave on this scenario..they made themselves look like a bunch of A##hol3s..

If you cover the antenna, you lose the signal. The point is that in the iphone4,Apple put the antenna where people's hands can mess with the reception UNDER NORMAL USE. That is the point.

Anonymous, 22 Jul 2010Well sorry to burst your bubble as well because ip4 aren't ... more>>>>Well sorry to burst your bubble as well because ip4 aren't dropping calls either.

Oh yes they do and even according to apple's unsubstantiated figures at least 17,000 people have reported such issues to apple and that does not include the fanboyish kinds who have chosen not to report and instead choose to spend $30 on a rubber band to try and fix the issue.

                                  >>>>You yourself have stated that attenuation cannot be eradicated (Apple might in the future), but can be avoided. So how can you avoid it? By simpy avoiding that weak spot, or, as in Apple's case, get a case which really eliminates the ip4 weak spot. As Apple have said, they could've gone on and on with other phones, but really, a few examples should get the message accross.

The difference is other companies ensured that the phones are designed in such a way that the weak spot does not come in the natural way of holding a phone nor drop calls which is in stark contrast to apple telling people to hold it differently or to buy a case as the only cure for the issue or even go to the extent of manufacturing rubber bands after knowing about the issues before hand and trying to sell them for $30.

                                  >>>>What? Nokia makes more oney than Apple? Thanks for the laugh :)

Reading fail on your end. I said Nokia makes more money than Apple does from phones which is true. If you exclude the non phone products of Apple, Nokia does make more money and guess what despite the number of iPhone sales apple reports, Symbian alone has more than twice the iOS market share. You are either too ignorant or too delusional if you think otherwise.

Ip4's antennagate is not a big deal. All phones have it. It's even better with the iphone. It's a very small spot to avoid, or, a case totally eliminates the problem. Nice try by the media to hurt Apple. Based on Apple's financial report, it didn't really affect them. Thanks to Apple's exposing other phones' antennagate, this would give users a better understanding that weak spots are common among smartphones :)

This becomes interesting everyday, can Apple show where the weak spots are for other phones because for ifunny its a touch on the strip that is causing a problem, further more the experiments appear to have been done to suit the outcome more so for Nokia, it appears to be completely strangled there, had it been held like how the ifunny 4 was there would be no signal loss. How about gripping the iphone 4 like n97,I'm sure it would choke to death. This time it appears reality distortion is failing. The next thing independent experts would conduct tests subjecting the phones to equal holding, the Apple results would be questioned. At times its better to solve the problem and put a brave face, Nokia has done it many times but retained trust. Apple is doing it the wrong way altogether, I am sure they are wishing everyone to be quiet but they are just feeding the hungry bloggers.
