Apple squeezes the reception out of Nokia N97 mini

21 July, 2010
Apple seem keen to prove other smartphones have the same reception attenuation as the iPhone 4. And they are getting back with a video of Nokia N97 mini that suffers from the same grip of death as the iPhone...

JasonX, 21 Jul 2010Notice how Apple Youtube channel disables alll commenting? ... moreDude, Apple doesn't need to buy every single phone in the world to prove something. They are devious in their cause. Apple can buy any phone, then their engineers open the phone and mess with the antenna to make it weaker on purpose, then they go out somewhere in nature with minimal reception and do these vidoes about other brands.

I would rather believe the hundreds of million happy Samsung, Nokia and Blackberry customers that has never complained about reception issues over Apple very "shady" dirt throwing vidoes.

Also given tha fact that if iPhones fans themselves who are usually the most blind and brand stubborn in the business start complaining and cursing Apple then obviously something is wrong. Apple fans don't go out in public and bash Apple that easily. It takes hell of a lot to make Apple fans do that.

In all the phones they showed this problem with the grip issue, but they forgot something. They forgot to compare their Iphone 4 with the phones they showed in the same area they gripped them, I bet if they did that, the iphone 4 would have no signal at all.

Apple have put themselves in a very bad position by doing what they did, now other big companies are angry and might stop their relations with Apple which would affect them, for e.g Samsung provides them with hardware like memory chips and other manufacturers also provide them with internal hardware.

Now that Apple showed their attitude towards the market, they have already dug their grave. Good luck Apple.

Antennagate is result of patent dispute between Nokia and Apple. Nokia has a patent for internal antenna. Apple tried to work around that and failed.

ALonZo, 21 Jul 2010Once GSMArena stop emphasising iPhone 4 signal problems, as... moreHello mate.....
Tell battyboy Jobs to stop ripping apart other handsets to cover up his production and design mistake then the bashers and GSM Arena will stop the highlights of this whole issue.
Apple started their claims by calling the Retina the best in the world, comparing and bringing down Samsung's Super Amoled, now it's the antenna war...

Jobs needs to grow up, apple has only entered the cell phone market over the last 5 years. They did a good job with the iphone, changed the way lots of cell phone manufacturers think, but where do they show maturity.... by hiding behind nokia and htc and samsung antenna problems.

seriously... i bet they are buying up every single possible phone in the world just to find a few examples to hopefully prove their iphone4 isn't wrong.

they are seriously trying wayyyyyy too hard.

Grow up Apple... then again... Apple has always been the Brat... sure is acting like one...

I tried very hard but couldn't make a single signal bar drop from my Motorola Milestone. Apple should simply acknowledge its flaws in phone design. They also kinda messed up with the camera placing in the iPod Nano. The camera should have been on the top instead of right at the bottom from where users hold it. What Apple is doing now (degrading other companies' reputation to save its own) doesn't suit it.

Apple are simply in self defence mode, the media have ganged up on them over this antenna issue where it's pretty clear that the problem is not exclusive to the Iphone4 and the proof is that this issue should have high lighted way before the Iphone4 came out. Having a pal who works for the Carphone warehouse as an engineer gives me a lot of info.
Apple is out to sell the Iphone4 and it would be sad to see them turn around with the tail between their legs and just agree with the media claims.
As the videos show a lot of other phones suffer from this so called death grip so it's time to move on, find something else to cry about. At least Apple have come out and accepted the problem and have offered anyone unhappy to take the phone back and get a full refund else get a free bumper. All the other manufactures who have been exposed have not offered any solutions so far.

Steve Jobs has really lost my respect. I used to respect Apple as an innovative and creative and good company, but their latest response to the iphone 4 issues is pathetic. What Steve jobs did by trying to point out faults of other phone makers to justify his is simply stupid and unethical as well. He may have gotten out of jail this time using this despicable matter, but in time this future will come back to haunt him.

And also, showing that the signal bar drops isn't enough. I believe the main and most important issue is wherther the drop in signal is so bad that calls get drop and msgs can't be receieved. If these functions still and work well, then I couldn't really care less if the signal bar shows nothing at all.

Apples message is actually pretty messed up. Instead of fixing the problem and dealing with the issue to satisfy unhappy customers they are basically saying that if someone else throws a handgrenande through a shop window than it's ok for you to do it to.

Once GSMArena stop emphasising iPhone 4 signal problems, as if like Steve Jobs is a serial killer on the run, then the less people will have to worry about the iPhone 4 signal problems. The problem will be sorted, sites like GSMArena have iPhone bashers working in the background slating the iPhone and stirring up unnessassary tension. iPhone 4 customers have been offered a refund, people dont have to buy the iPhone 4 if they dont want to, GSMArena need to stop the bashers writing articles (and coming here in the forums debating amongst us all).

                                hello Apple..
Gsmarena is right. It's not funny.
I have been using nokia n97 mini for 7 months now. I think signal reception is good. Have NO complaint about it. It is true that in weak signal area the signal bar will drop 2 or 3 bar when you cover the antenna. As with other device using radio signal, it is normal.
Please check your phone again Apple. Don't check other brand :)
