that's the best thing that could happen to a copycat company...what was the last thing samesung came up with on their own?....yes copying apple in every way! now I m hearing that galaxy s8 will not have headphone jack and not a clickable home button....if samesung has little shame then better get out of mobile phone business...look at htc, lg, motorla, google....Huawei...they all are making phones and selling them without copying apple! I am happy....huurrraaaaa!

you know this problem wouldn't have happened or could have been resolved fixed and avoided if the damn phone did not have a sealed in batter, if it had a removable one samsung could have easily offered a better working batteries to replace the faulty one rather than issuing a total recall and now a discontinuous of the phone just because the battery got a problem, apple was dead wrong to do that, and the rest of the idiotic world followed their steps blindly, even google with their latest pixel phone, no removable battery, no expandable storage

Anonymous, 11 Oct 2016Because they can just recall the battery. Or you can just b... moreAssuming it is removable battery. Even if they recall the battery the new safe battery still exploded when put inside the phone. Second recall, then discontinued. Same thing all over. If the battery really IS the problem they should be able to make a third battery and replaced it again but they dont because of the thing so called 'reputation' and 'shame'. Such a waste of good phone with merely a battery problem which can easily be replaced. I wont mind to see refurbished Note7 relaunch though it will be a niche product.

AnonD-428442, 11 Oct 2016I agree that Samsung is facing tougher competition on the l... moreIn Europe, at least around here, little to no commercials of the Note 7 were shown on TV (at launch), whereas the S7/S7 Edge were being spammed intensively! Lets not even mention publicity, pamphlets, posters, flyers, advertising flags and internet publicity! Well i agree it is a status Symbol, but when i ask colleagues about what they would get its either the S7 Edge or anything else. The Note always was a phone oriented for enhanced notifications and designers work. Well yeah, i assume most people would still fall blindly for Samsung's low/mid range devices, which are terrible for its price nowadays. Grey market importing is dangerous and these Chinese companies offer little to no support in all its variants to consumers.

It is a big blow to Samsung. The best note in the note series was the Note 4 hands down. Since then, Samsung started copying other manufacturers to stay in the game and that was the time things went downhill for Samsung.

It might not be caused by the battery itself and if your going to hang on to your note 7 there's no chance of ever getting a software update as they will wash their hands completely of the note 7,I hope they update s7/edge to grace ux because if your replacing note 7 for s7 your downgrading on software and hardware features.

Anonymous, 11 Oct 2016Because they can just recall the battery. Or you can just b... moreIt's a bit late after the phone has self destructed isn't it! And can you imagine the logistics of trying to match up phones to good batteries, especially if they are not even provided by Samsung. These are not generic off the shelf batteries that will fit any phones. They are phone specific so just randomly swapping them around would create a complete management nightmare for safety. This problem would likely have been ten times worse with removable batteries. There were question marks over chargers when the issue was first reported. So imagine the battery was also swappable and possibly to one Samsung know nothing about too! It would be a logistics nightmare.
Now if you want to say that the phone should have a replaceable battery for other reasons I see your point, not that I necessarily agree but that is a different conversation and nothing to do with exploding ones.

AnonD-551566, 11 Oct 2016first thing they need to do is clarify if the burnt "safe" ... moreThey already knew what the problem with "Safe Note 7", definitely is not battery alone. They will not announce it now, because can effect customer's trust to other Samsung cellphone. Just blame it to battery alone and Note 7, so another Samsung's cellphones are not in the spot of this tragedy.

AnonD-491313, 11 Oct 2016Oh no your wrong about that. Samsung low end devices, are b... moreI agree that Samsung is facing tougher competition on the lower-mid end by the Chinese. However, Samsung still has the brand power, and new smartphone users who are not sure about brands like LeEco etc will just get a Samsung.
I disagree on the customer of the Note 7. They are premium customers, but I would argue that most of them are not the technical "know how." Note series is a status symbol, as it is the most expensive phone from Samsung. Many people with a Note don't even use the stylus nor know many of the features. You get a Note to show your friends that you can afford one.
Samsung actually already shifted their marketing. In SE Asia, I don't see the Note 7 retail presence anymore. The push is on the S7/S7 Edge (and some on the Note 5). It's like the Note 7 never existed.
