[deleted post]Because you didn't mention a single Motorola phone, which first offered charging via USB as early as 2004.

one of the major probs of coordination between mobile tech manufacturers seem to have been solved. The other one was memory stick by sonyericsson.

I have to tell that universal chargers literally changed the world for me. First all phones in the family - my Bberry and HD2 and wife's N8 charge through a µUSB. Moreover, the HTC charger has separable USB to µUSB cable. When on business trip I do not longer take a charger but just a 10cm data cable that charges both my phones from the laptop and weights close to zero. Finally, instead of thinking about my battery life I have a charger at home and one at work, both serving as data cable as well. And finally, if I run out of battery odds are strong that somebody will have a charger.
Now it remains to see when (and HOW exactly) Mr Jobs will do his part of the agreement all the others already did.

3araby, 31 Dec 2010you and your almighty brand, get over it, all the new nokia... moreSo what is your definition of "new"? Why it took "years" for the almighty brand to offer such simple technology?
Oh, almost forgot the almighty brand took almost 5 years to make its first 3G touchscreen phone, so charge via micro-USB took them 2 years...

If you already carry a computer, that means you only need to use the data cable and connect to the phone, then the phone would charge off based on the power from the computer.
If you don't have the computer, then plug the data cable into the wall charger, which has the USB port to transfer the power, and it works the same as the conventional wall charger.
What's the hassle? I only see more convenience, as often there are more USB ports than power sockets from the wall.

it's gonna be cheaper if they do that for all countries since they don't have to bother making different sets of phones.

So, instead of bringing a small wall-outlet charger, we have to bring a tiny USB charger, plus a lot BIGGER computer (even the smallest one like netbook). Yeah, great idea...

it's about time we use only one type of jack, next good thing to standardize i think would be batteries. small batteries could be use on phones with bigger batteries or vice versa by adding or removing plastic spacers to make them fit snugly in the battery compartment.

gg, 30 Dec 2010It should be MINIUSB and not MICROUSB! Microusb connector i... moreI do agree use of "mini-USB" should be fine over "micro-USB".
one example is for my 76-years old mom who practically lives alone. With mini-USB (as she now uses Motorola V6 and K3), there is only "one way" to plug in the charger port, even in the dark or anyone with poor eye-sight.
I have about 3 more (flip) phones with mini-USB as "spare" for my mom, in case any of her phone breaks. Otherwise I can't imagine how she would manage micro-USB herself....
The industry really should consider the elderly who helped built our current society.

Dani, 30 Dec 2010New Nokia's already have MicroUSB charging. So you consider the almighty brand's 5250, which was released in September, being OLD?
Because accoridng to GSM Arena, 5250 does NOT support charging via USB.

Even in 2010 the almighty brand released several phones which only have the micro-USB PORT for DATA ONLY but NOT charging, how hard was it?

Motorola started to use micro-USB plug back in 2007 with its V8, Q9, etc...
