Hey people what do you think what are the chances of Symbian(4) to get back as a top or one of the top choices in future... i mean symbian had one big problem and that is its UI if they bring new UI later this year what kinda response they might get? don't say that it can't get their because Android is changing fast but don't forget that Android did it when symbian was a Giant so symbian has potential..i have used symbian devices for last 5 years and i found them User Friendly what so ever!!

And you know something is wrong if one of the recommended apps for those inquiring about android phones is LAGFIX.

And what do you mean last 30 posts? GSMARENA articles or comments? We have 190+ comments as of this post and I bet there are Nokdroid posts here.

Anonymous, 27 Feb 2011You mentioned half the market, based on an image with very ... moreOkay, let me itemise my points.

1 - I never said nokia owned half the mobile market. I said the image indicated so. And that, I said in my bid to discredit the image as anything that could be used to back up a point. That the image had no timeline in more sauce to this. Analytically, if you take the start on the graph as the date of publish and the point when wp appears as when they remade their first wp device, the image represents symbian being completely phased out in late 2013. That is a short time.

2 - I never said nokia would not eventually ditch symbian. I said they would have time doing so and that I expect top still see then making symbian smartphones in 2015.

3 - I clearly misunderstood your point as regards nokia's profits dwindling but that's in part due to its irrelevance in this argument.

4 - symbian non touch is s60v3 which its un arguably the world's best non touch mobile smartphone os. There is no replacement for that at hand and as such, it can't be ditched.

5 - nokias ceo said they would be relaying a wp device this year. He also said wp would not be gaining traction until 2012. Gaining traction means, nokia won't even start dreaming of making any real profit from the switch until then. nokia hence can't discontinue symbian, which by the way is currently profitable, until then. And even after. They would continue making symbian devices for as long as there are a good number of fans willing to buy them.

            Now do we understand ourselves?

I think there's nothing wrong in purchasing N8 today even if Nokia will gradually cut its support for its OS. The primary reason people will chose N8 is because of its camera, and Nokia even promised some support in like 2 years more. Btw, majority of people change phones fast, i think max of 2 years. I like my N8 because it will be one of the last good symbian3 model and will be rightfully framed on our wall as a remembrance of "not that good 'ole days" of symbian. :)

Nokia only has 31% global market share, far cry from majority. Nokia is also projected to shrink even smaller, their shares will be around ~$6/share in 1-2 years. Most phones these days are being manufactured with resistive touch screen? Stop looking at Nokia phones, then you will realize that most devices are being manufactured with capacitive. Why would a glove matter with a resistive touch device? I think you are confusing resistive and capacitive here my friend.

AnonD-743, 27 Feb 2011I didn't said that every manufacter started to make touchsc... moreYou mentioned half the market, based on an image with very little description and a fine print that clearly states its for illustration purposes only; yet you deduced from that image that it states Nokia owned 50% of the mobile market? Where did you see any indication of time? The image shown only showed that over time symbian will be phased out. Did it have any indication of time in days, months, or years? No? So where did you reach this conclusion that it was in a "short period"? It could be over 3 quaters, or a a whole year.

                      http://press.nokia.com/2011/01/27/nokia-q4-2010-net-sales-eur-12-7-billion-non-ifrs-eps-eur-0-22-reported-eps-eur-0-20-nokia-2010-net-sales-eur-42-4-billion-non-ifrs-eps-eur-0-61-reported-eps-eur-0-50/

Once again, you fail at any deducing. Did I say Nokia was in the red? No. I said they were losing profits. Which clearly shown in the link above a -13% profit when compared to Q3. So obviously you can't read very well can you my friend? Nokia also said that they would like to have a WP7 device by end of 2011/Q1 2012. Again show me where you get your information stating a Q4 2012 launch for Nokia Wp7 devices? I also felt your statement ambiguous which was why i asked what you meant. Funny how you attack my grammar, yet your post is ladled with errors? You talk about change yet you seem to be very prudent on the fact that Nokia will phase out symbian? You're rich, you seem to think you know better than the CEO. You refute the claims that Symbian would be phased out even though Elop himself made that statement? When "I loved to argue" made that statement you called him out on it, I would like to see your sources of information indicating symbian wouldn't be replaced with WP7?

Who the hell uses resistive? Geez... That show's how ignorant you are. Resistive screens are very popular all over the world even in the actual days, alot of countries use resistive thanks to the stylus input for handwright recognition and the gloves use. Again, you are just another one with american mind.
Nokia deserve to be ridiculized? But it still the leader on the mobile market and can be bigger than any other company even with so small market share on USA, obviously that leave you american people so angry.
Go ridiculize Nokia then, but if weren't by Nokia, you probably wouldn't even be interested by smartphones now, maybe we would still living with phones with big external antennas or probably alot worse.
Nokia innovated alot with the N8, every other phone that you see on the market is the same: "Android + power full CPU + iPhone design". N8 got nice multimedia features and have better functionality than any other phone on the market. If you don't like N8, well, it's not made for people that only care for a stupid overrated OS and tons of CPU and RAM that doesn't have any need, It's made for smart people, that want a good range of possibilitys and functionality on their phones.
