Is nice to see some people don't realize the power of microsoft.
I'm not a fan of any OS, but I see Microsoft have all the software market for PC, instead use CRAPPY "FREE" CLONE software form Linux, I prefeer the original one from Microsof and I don't care about the price of the programs as long as they work at 100% for me.
In the Phone maret, Microsoft has leave (as an fool move) the phone market goes from the company hands. I remember when WM 6.5 was the number one OS, and they can do it again, has the resources. And I have no doubt they can climb again in number two or maybe one OS in phone market.
Android is NO FREE..you still need to crack their devices in order to "run feee apps" alas IOS and BB, so don't feel too confident about freeware. Freeware is CRAP and I can bet you don't pay all the software/apps you have on your devices (from MP3 to Software.
And about troyans and more of that stuff...sorry to break your bubble, Microsoft computing still have thos bugs...but guess why??? Because ALL PEOPLE USE IT. Nobody cares about make malware for CRAPPY OSes (Linux and their 1000's of affiliated) and Optional OS like Apple infections are growing every day because more people are using (even if they are build around Linux cores)
So don't blame the players (companies) they can do whatever they want...But users have the last words on it!

MyName, 30 Mar 2011I switched from Windows to Apple 6 years ago, and I won't b... moreexcept for the fact that OSX is highly subjective to trojans and attacks. Safari is the least secure browser available on the market. Check out the pwn2own event, where people show off their exploits on browsers. The latest Safari browser is the least secure out of the 4 big known browsers.
That's where you're so highly uninformed. So you're telling me an app can replace microsoft word? You're delusional if you believe so. So you're telling me photoshop for iOS or Android will replace Adobe Photoshop for full desktop? You're funny dude. Yeah but i don't expect much from you, after all you're a mac user and you think macs are totally secure. lol.

I have more important things than worrying about viruses, trojans and antivirus.
Average user needs not OS, but applications.
And as mobile platforms evolve into more complex systems, and mobile devices become more and more powerful, it will not be a necessity any more to use PC/laptop do write your thesis, to edit your photos, to use VoIP, to check your email or to watch video.
Windows will be a goner from the mainstream.

You're high incorrect in this assumption. Microsoft will still be the majority in the very far future when it comes to laptop/desktop OS. Windows 7 is the fast selling OS in history, not because people don't have a choice, because it is good. Maybe you should upgrade from Windows XP and actually try Windows 7 for yourself before making this uneducated, inexperienced assumptions. So you're saying people don't have a choice of not going windows 7? A lot of manufacturers are including linux distributions as viable options for the laptops/desktops they sell. You also have choice of Apple based computing too. So where is this forced buy you speak of?

Most of them will gladly move from Windows, as soon as they will have a choice of buying non-Windows laptops/PC. And it will happen in the next 2-3 years, thanks to Apple, Blackberry, but mostly Android.
You'll see it happening with your own eyes. It will be an interesting show to watch, I promise.

How long did it take iOS to use more then 2 apps at the same time? How long has WP7 been out? Why dont you talk about iPhones no true multitasking? the fact that video calling and hotspot and gaming handheld? Nokia was one of the first for all 3 but yet apple fan boys claim that its a gift from apple? How about your notifaction indicator? iPhone 5 or 6? Nokia turned the corner with the N-gage, Yes they had there heads in the ground when other companys came out with other idea's but dont knock what apple wasnt able to do create.

So.... analysts predict the bright future for WM7 on the basis of presumptions that Nokia will totally sacrifice itself, and will become a Microsoft dependant junkie even on it's cheapest phones
lol
Analysts forgot to analyse that Nokia is already a bad trampoline for Windows to jump sky hi, that Windows as a jumper is able to move only in a wheelchair, that for younger people Windows itself is a synonym for lame and looser, that Android, iOS and BB are progressing faster and more productive than monopoly dinosaur of BillGates - Microsoft.
RIP Nokia
RIP Windows

Anonymous, 30 Mar 2011I just fail to see a Microsoft fan base. Didn't they do abo... moreSo you don't see any Windows fan base? So you are totally ignorant about the 8/10 PC users in the world that are using a Windows operating system? Microsoft sell about 1.8 billion Windows licenses every year. The only reason Windows Mobile has not been hugely successfull is beacuse it was not a very good OS. Windows Phone 7 on the other hans is excellent and hugely innovative in every way, have you tried one? I myself use Android but i think Windows Phone is far superior to both Android and iOS whereas Windows Mobile was junk. Microsoft really stepped up their game big time with WP7. And with Nokia onboard they will soon take over the market. You say Microsoft annoy their users, yes maybe sometimes. But Apple don't just annoy their users, the lie to their users staright in the face. Steve Jobs treats the Apple users like uneducated simpletons. At least Microsoft don't tell it's users to go buy a 2 dollar Chinese bumber for a brand new 700 dollar phone to even work.

AnonD-37, 30 Mar 2011Well, this is the same analysts who predicted that Symbian ... morevery interesting article indeed. I couldn't even remember it anymore. Ofcourse I can't say I'm an analyst myself, but before I tested a WP7 phone myself -not too bad actually- I have learned that WP7 is very ristrictive towards developers -too bad! Independent developers make Android & iPhone successful, and this was clear way before WP7 even hit the market. MS (likely) knowingly excluded these gold innovative diggers in its very own wellknown arrogance to think "we are the best anyway, so we don't need them". When will MS accept the fact that their business model worked quite well for PC-based systems, in a time when developers were hard to find? These times have come and gone. I hope you still don't get it, Steve (Ballmer).

Its completely unrealistic to claim that WM7 will replace Symbian completely.
It is true that Nokia always had the talent to sell crap, only by having the word Nokia, written on their devices and their fanatic fans, would follow them everywhere, no matter how hard they criticised WM.
BUT nokia said that they will also support alternative OSs for a while and considering that the WM7 devices will be high end only for at least the next couple of years and without the WOW effect, IS used to have,
its completely unrealistic to conclude that WM7 will replace Symbian.
Nokia sales were going down pretty fast, because the OS cannot cope with modern times and their hardware development couldnt cope with modern times either, so they cant compete with other brands anyway.
Nokia will keep losing share, as it has remained pretty much dead for a year and forced many of their hard core power users to switch brand.
Symbian could resurrect them, but WM7 will sunk them...
