Simple... A bad design is a bad design period. A "FULL SCREEN" experience to me means I want >a goddamned full view in a perfect rectangle, not with a side notch or a front cam "pimple" on it.< This goes to all; iPhone X, Essential PH-1 and the latest Sharp Aquos R.
What the smartphone industry needs to admit is; so far it was Sharp's older Aquos Crystal followed by Mi Mix and now Samsung S8, S8+, Note 8 and LG V30 probably also Huawei Mate 10 got the trimmed bezels fight down to a yet unfinished book but they got it down.
iPhone X and PH-1 are gimmicks designed to justify an elevated RRP ceiling for flagship smartphones that not a single smartphone user ever agreed to. Let's not even start about iPhone X's incoming separate ridiculous wireless charging scam but hey if you bought it then you've made your bed to lie on so to speak.
This was a design approved nothing more by/for sheer desperation in twofold;
1. They needed an "X" factor. Literally.
2. Top Android phone OEMs design-wise are leaving Apple in their smoke puff at 1st gear this year (always been the case already since last 3 years). Especially when underdogs like Xiaomi undercuts rival flagships with their Mi Mix 2 since Mi Mix og was a surprise proof of concept that works.

Nice review, it is obviously that iPhone x it is not game changer just a flagship like any other with forbiden price. Sure, most powerful chipset and one of the best camera, but do you really think spending 1000 dollars or more justifies that? Knowing that next year flagships will do anything to overpass iPhone x those categories with cheaper price

You dad invested into a bad idea or rather a bad implementation of it. Exactly what (re)producing the same iphone over and over again was/is. Apple *is* a dying company unless and until they create a *new* well selling product. Either a new line altogether or a redesign of their own phone.
That's what iPhone X is supposed to do.
Dying companies are/were the American car companies posting record revenues in 00s ... they were dying because in the first market downturn they got bankrupt. And they're basically dead if not for the US government (basically) refinancing them.
Apple reaaaally wants to avoid that fate. Record profits has little to do with the longevity of a company. It's how those are used that breaks or makes a company.
Both blackberry and Nokia were at their peak when their death warrant was signed a few years after they were both dead (basically).
I called that one guy out be he was implying that record profits tell anything, anything at all on their own ... well they don't. They merely say that the company was great in the *past*, and if they are to be great in the future they have to stop the bleed now. Releasing the same product over and over again is *the* bleed. iPhone X is supposed to be the cure and should be commended.
Honestly though, its problems are minor, its benefits are huge. It's literally a generation ahead everything else, those who are complaining are missing the elephant in the room and nitpick. It's the same people who missed what a great revolution the original iphone was ("oh edge is slow", or no "bluetooth" .... *yes* but those are fixable, blackberries bad navigation is/was not).

If I have to unlock my phone at middle of the night, do I need to turn on the lights for face Id. Can't I simply swipe through notifications with fingers and sleep again. Innovation, my axxe.

That design is a fail. The areas around the notch or eyebrow are only useful for notifications or features programmed on purpose, like in the iOS that recognize the device and reposition the icons. In normal apps that maintain the compatibility with the whole mayority of iPhone models that areas are a complete waste of space with the result of a smaller screen that the advertised, shadowing those areas, like in games, brownsers, videos, etc. As a developer I'll not waste any minute programming special features for a phone that only a minority of customer are going to own. Unless Apple pay me generously on purpose to do it, thing that I doubt a lot.
