I'm beyond disappointed by Qualcomm at this point. Seriously, Why the hell even bother upgrading your phone every two years? Upgrade it every 3 years and maybe you'll notice a big improvement. I'm not just talking about raw performance, but even the battery optimization is improving slowly.
They're too busy fighting Apple. While Apple is in a different league when it comes to SoCs. The A11 Bionic is at least 2 times more powerful than the SD835. By this progress, the SD845 will also be 1.5 times slower than the A11 Bionic. Maybe someone will come up with the "speed tests" which shows that the 2017 iPhones are slower than the SD 835 flagships. But they completely forgot that iPhones have way slower animations. You can see how powerful they are when video rendering. I personally used an iPhone 8, and I can tell you it's smooth as f*ck. The longer and smoother animations really make it special. The Pixels are the only phones in Android that can match it.
Anyways, I think that our only hope goes to Samsung and Huawei. I'm using the P10 Plus right now and I can tell you this thing is a monster with the Kirin 960. The Kirin 970 was all about efficiency and A.I. But I also loved that they added dual ISPs. Which helps with image processing. The Exynos from Samsung have always been more efficient than Qualcomm's Snapdragon. Hope these two (Sammy & Huawei) make something big next year. And Qualcomm can go to hell.

SpiritWolf, 30 Nov 2017You should use 41mpx Nokia 808 before talking about 'useles... moreI can understand the d**kriding for the Nokia 808/1020/950 XL and I know there are people in this website with that phone in hand and a computer on the other hand but let's face it; Megapixels aren't everything. Praising for something for just one thing like Megapixels for phones is just plain wrong. It's just like you're only praising the game for just the Graphics *cough CRYSIS *cough. What it takes to make a quality photo is now on the sensors, the apertures and mainly, the software.
Companies understood that realization and so they focus on the other things than just Megapixel count. Until they figure out the perfect sensors to have a near artifact free low light photo, the likes of 41MP to a Gigapixel isn't a priority right now.

SpiritWolf, 30 Nov 2017You should use 41mpx Nokia 808 before talking about 'useles... moreNowadays phones have ultra thin sensors. No OEM will put two 808 sensors as a dual-camera! Look at Sony, high MP count, crap quality. While smarter OEMs will enhance quality instead of resolution. And it's not like I can go to Rogers and ask for an 808 either. Even on second-hand sites like Kijiji it's nowhere to be found

Anonymous, 30 Nov 2017All the things that android won't get (pattern recognition ... moreI agree about Qualcomm..they are too busy fighting with iFruit.(it must be all american love story:))But it's not just Qualcomm,Google is a problem. For Apple it's easy, one OS powered by one chipset,it's easy to optimize. But on the other hand, million different Androids, and few dozen different chipsets to power them, you cannot possibly make them all running supersmooth. But chinese could jump in by making their own chipsets(like Huawei),Xiaomi,Lenovo,ZTE got funds to do that, others might follow,Oppo,Meizu,Vivo...If they decide to go for it,I believe we'll all benefit from progress they'll produce..it might be Pandora's box, once opened...

Anonymous, 30 Nov 2017Who cares about the rubbish 808 its been dead for years !Is it now? Symbian community is alive and well. A LOT of people are using 808 until today. I bet, after 5 years no one remembers what was S8 or iPhone X. And no one one will use them, because they are rather generic phones, not like 808 that shines until today.

a 10nm architecture for the SD845. Glad i picked up a oneplus 5T in the right time with the 835. The only true successor to the nexus 5 with the SD800.
So far so good. When SOC start to be build in 5nm i might consider a new flagship but until then im good

(Btw this is not called maturity, it's called stagnation, Intel went through a similar period and lost ALL the new markets to gpus, deep learning, cryptomining, high end gaming; I expect similar to happen to Qualcomm/Android losing to Apple: iphones would get all the high end new uses that will eventually come, meanwhile androids would hold their d***s)

Apple has gone so far ahead for plenty of reasons, but the things that their expensive SoC can do is one of them (good luck playing at high fidelity on androids or use anything resembling passive biometrics). Qualcomm monopoly is *killing* android (best OS, worst hardware basically).
On topic: Qualcomm would barely catch up to two year old A9. His company is seriously depressing, it depresses anything it touches, being and android user that is so sad...

Why even bother with this 'improved' chips? What are the benefits? It's like I decide to replace my 2017 car with 175hp with 2018 model that will have 177hp and 0.1 % better fuel consumption..I guess 2019 will be the year to replace our 2017 or even 2016 phones...

Nowadays cameraphones are trash (even my main 950XL, which is superior to most of competition until now) compared to 808, if we are talking about resolved detail and overall picture quality. Of course, high mpx count should be paired with large sensor to make true difference.
