The writer assumes that TSMC CLN10FF process is the same as Samsung 10LPE (or 10LPP for that matter) and thus no process advantage is gained, which could be far from true. Different dimensions and geometries, materials, process and design libraries could paint quite different performance and energy usage envelope, hopefully for the best.

And you can save money by being avoiding upgrading each time you see perf upgrades. Wait 2,3 years to upgrade. You woulnt get an i7-8700K if you have a 7700K or 6700K, no?

That was a 2016 phone released in 2017, what crossed your mind before buying it? It is awful for games (and in many other things). Heck G5 is/was better in most of everything (camera, ppi, infinite autonomy, ir, fm radio)

Sorry for everyone, this article is wrong.
The cores are based on Cortex A73 microarchitecture. Qualcomm has been designing this thing for a while, and the Cortex A75's were only revealed and licensed recently. There's not enough time.
However, the good news is that these are heavily modified cores which end-result resemble the Cortex A75. You can call it "convergent evolution" if you like. This has happened in the past with:
Qualcomm Krait-200 vs Cortex A15
Qualcomm Krait-400 vs Cortex A17
Qualcomm Kryo 100 vs Cortex A72
However, unlike before the Qualcomm Kryo 280 was actually a Cortex A73 that was (slightly) modified and performs relative to a Cortex A73, unlike the heavily customised Cortex A57 microarchitecture that was the Kryo-100 design.

As a gamer i welcome every GPU and cpu increase.
Saw a major increase in performance of my high end game between LG G6 and essential by example.

You go out and ask people who remember iPhone 3G or Nokia 808 and people will probably ask what is Nokia 808. Nokia is history and unless they make some significant unique breakthrough, it's just gonna be like any other Chinese manufacturer, with except of Huawei and Xiaomi. It doesn't matter if your phone can take super good photos like SLR, once on social media, most people can't tell the difference so they'll look for other things which Nokia 808 doesn't have at all.

They are there so they have to be accounted for in speed tests. Day to day app opening the X is no faster than a note 8 but correct in video rendering the X pulls way ahead. Ease of use though the gestures vs virtual home/back keys the android runs circles around the X.

harwey, 30 Nov 2017Friend of mine just switched from Lg G5 to 1+5 and he says ... moreI agree. the oneplus 5 in terms of performance is king on android. it's blazing fast and never hands not stutters. Even in the camera department it isn't bad, it takes quite good shots.
in terms of Audio, the oneplus 5 has crisp and loud output, louder than the Mi6 but the Mi6 has the advantage of the stereo audio but the audio is really dim but crisp.
in terms of audio i have mixed feelings. A friend of mine owns a Mi6 and the only way i would give the Mi6 a higher score is in terms of watching animes or playing games at home. That stereo speaker is simply Awesome!!! But outdoors i would have gone with the oneplus 5 only because of its loudness and still crisp audio output.

There shouldn't be a total comparism between chipsets performance at we the tech-savy people cause we well know Apple runs their software on their on custom chipsets.Comparism should be done by those layman type of users since they might chose a device based on it ergonomics and beauty, but not speed per say

Seriousl... moreyour phone is not only the processor. i've a htc 10 and a htc u11. the difference is night and day from one device to another. much better camera, better screen, more beautiful device, much better battery life (with same battery), a little more smooth than the htc10. if i was buying a phone only for the processor power..any sd660 and up are more than enought for every day use with no delays. for games by a console please..are cheaper and better.

after the switch to 64 bit processor and the SD808 and 810, Qualcomm never recovered. They were never ready to go to 64 bit and they've rushed it going a full year ahead of schedule. It meant disaster, besides from chronical thermal issues, SD810 got half of the score of the A9 in single core.
After the shock QC, reacted with the 820 and first generation of custom Kryo cores, which meant about 50% bump in single score compared to the faulty 810. In Geekbench numbers it meant around 1800.
Unluckly for Qualcomm, Apple was pushing the envelope and months later released the all mighty A10 chipset which literally blew the competition with its 3500 single core score.
SD835 followed and was really more about an efficient fabrication process and steady improvement. Today it tops 2000 in single score, while Apple latest A11 is at 4400.
As much as I would like to have competition, for the time being there is no competition, and with QC in the process of being taken over by Broadcomm, I'm not even sure they are really pursuing to compete against Apple on short term.
SD845 seems an iteration of the SD835 bringing incremental improvements in efficiency and crunching power. Not bad, but a totally different league from what Apple has to offer.
Now, the bad part in all this story is Apple only uses their chipsets to power their own devices and will not sell them to 3rd parties, so we will not see android or any other kind of devices powered by Apples silicon, which in all fairness it's a petty.
On the mid run the only companies with financial muscle who can afford to invest in the chipset business are samsung and huawei. Samsung is barely scratching the surface with its Exynoss, while Hisilicon looks a bit more commit, but for the time being, none are in the position to propose something revolutionary to close the gap to Apple.
If SD845 rumours are true and we're gonna see a 15% performance increase, I'm afraid 2018 is going to bring us the biggest difference in crunching power between android's top chipset and apple's a series.
