Battery degradation makes the battery hold less charges. It doesn't change the voltage the battery generates, as the diode and cathode are still the same.

So, the voltage supplied to the SOC remains the same. That's why Samsung or any Android or any device of any maker in the world don't needs this.

So, that's obviously an excuse to justify programmed obsolence and make the iFans believe it's a feature.

Not OK. The choice should be left to the owner of the phone.

By the way, my ancient iPhone 6 on iOS 11.2 is still faster than my Note8...... true story.

imRGZ, 21 Dec 2017Haha. Lol. A super pricey phone can't withstand a moderate ... moreI don't know what happened to your device but an iPhone wont die within 14 months if you use it normally and don't damage it. I've never ever heard of that happening. Unless maybe you bought a refurb.

How on the hell can this be good. I've seen a reduction around 65% in the clock frequency. From 1400 Hz to 600 Hz which is unacceptable. No more Apple for me. And sadly this make my iPhone less resellable. Fu**

So all the benchmark results for Iphones in phone reviews cannot be trusted. Apple probably overclocks their CPUs to make their phones look better compared to their competitors, but after awhile they are throttled down to their real performance.

This is a good thing Apple is doing to extend reliability of the devices.

And it is absolutely disgraceful that it has not been communicated at all until now and in this way. It reeks of smugness and trying to hide ripping people off, even if on balance it is a most sensible choice that is for the benefit of people.

Apple needs to lift its game much higher as to being clear to customers if it alters the capability of its devices and the reasons for the same.

What I find most amusing is that one of Apple's fanboys top arguments is "Android gets slower over time". Well... I can always factory reset my Android and get tip-top performance, your iPhone (on the other hand) has to be gutted and have its battery replaced (at a cost) -- by design!

                      Its a feature?

Apple problems here apple problems there. Who cares.
Apple always sells high in price and offers as low as possible.

                        Their batteries were never good.
Making slim phone for what? Lasting brand new barelly half day on a single charge?
Like WTF. Keep your trinkets i am not interested in fail brand.

I would prefer such behavior to be configurable.

Glad that I didn’t update my iphone 7 plus to 11.2 and remained at 11.0.3 which has the same battery life as 10.3.5. Coz 11.0,11.0.1 and 11.0.2 battery life sucks. IF IT WORKS NO NEED TO UPDATE!

Samsung might of had ONE type of phone that set it self on fire. Yet over at Apple no matter what iPhone you have it is slowly self destructing. Being an apple fan you will see this as a cool and innovative move that took courage to do. Apple - WE DON'T BLOW UP WE SELF DESTRUCT.

So happy that I chose S8 over iPhone 7!

Sony fan , 21 Dec 2017Z3 and g3 going faster over time? Let's not exagerate, plus... moreThey did, Lollipop and Marshmallow did some wonder in my use case especially G3 (used to be laggy with 4.4)
I suspect you've never owned both two OSs at the same time.
And again, old iPhone is slower than same age Android counterpart, and even newest iPhone isn't king in terms of speed for these couple of years, just try yourself or at least watch the footage yourself.

IF apple had a prompt come up as soon as the phone detects battery deterioration and said it was limiting the CPU to conserve battery then this would be perfectly fine and nothing to worry about. BUT because they have hid this and only now someone has proven it they have admitted it clearly it's planned obsolescence to make people get frustrated with a slow phone and upgrade.

It's business. They need that people buy more of there devices so they make updates to slow your phone down so that you think thats it's old and you need new one so you will go and buy new one from them. Light bulb theory you know that ? You mass product something that last forever then dont have anyone to buy them cause they dont need one cause they already have working one. How long will you last as you will typically have competition to.

And well i can see it same with android too. They just have not admitted it yet as there are tons of models out there. Samsun have who knows 15 different models a year. Nokia has 8 different models that we know of. Missing Nokia 1 and 4

Nokia phones get same vanilla stock android updates so there can be too these thing in that slow it down. Best is a droid without updates so it's optimized for that said device. Cause brands need to make every year new models to have interest in them.
