Apple confirms it's intentionally slowing down iPhones with old batteries

The company said it decreased the performance in order to keep the battery life longer.

Fusion , 21 Dec 2017Still faster than any Android..LOL!!!Haha… nope. Just use both, and you'd find out.

In recent years even the latest one lags behind the likes of oneplus when it comes to launching apps as some youtube footage shows.

The sense given is the phone is slow thats all. The action taken by apple litterally cancels the battery problem and causes a slowing down problem. Battery decline is slowed down due to lower draw. Battery time is similar to new. Phone is dead slow. It could pass as an emergency measure but how many people are in a war zone or in space. This here, is a malicious measure

I'm all for user removable/changeable battery. I can even put in extended batteries that are 3 times the capacity. I did that with my Note 3. I've gone through 6 regular batteries and 1 Zerolemon 10,000 mAh that started showing fatigue by only performing some 60% each in the span of 3+ years.

Now that I have the Note8 with sealed battery, I have to keep the battery charged up above 80% to keep that battery healthy and increase its life cycles. I keep this up with the Scosche magnetically attached battery pack, and now Zerolemon 10,000 mAh battery case.

So, sealed batteries suck. I have to go to a service center at one point to have a fresh battery. What's more is fast charging or any of the wireless charging put extra stress to the battery wth more heat, and thereby become less in holding a battery capacity exactly when new iterations come out in a year's time.

Samsung seems to have caught on to what Apple is doing with sealed batteries. One way to make people thinking of getting a new phone.

If the old device could shut down occasionally unless slowing itself down, then that's Apple's fault because Android doesn't. (except Sammy?)

Otherwise if the old device proven actually doesn't shut down but it slows itself down intentionally, then that's Apple's fault of course. They want lemmings to buy new one.

Anonymous, 21 Dec 2017Hey man! That is what the Apple do best. Make choices to... moreYes, but NO ONE like slow devices. I personally believe that I should pick when I need to replace the battery (send money). Apple secretly slowing devices downs because they believe its the right thing is wrong. I rather fast and battery dies fast, KNOWING I can replace the battery. Now I'm forced to replace the batter when I never had an issue. (if i want it to run fast again)

We actually care about you and your nerves being strained by old phones so we make them run even slower to make you think about buying our new, shiny iPhone X for just 1300$*! Love you guys!

This is a choice. Have shorter and shorter usage time (like most phone makers) or maintain long usage time, but make phone slower when using old battery. Hard to chose sometimes...
                  Depends on situation and user.
But if you want to have more speed, just change new battery and you get speed back.

That is why Apple is so popular! In Android the user have to / can make choises and because of that most computer ignorant people find them too complex to use.
Apple is a flagship phone, to not so smart users and so it is also very popular!

Who the hell are they to control my device. Next they will lower my screen brightness to save battery? If APPLE feels they need to slow everyone devices down to save battery life then they should PAY for the replacement.

My iPad is a few years old but ran perfectly up to the day I did the last OS update. Ever since then its has major leg time. If the batter was to dies faster I would have just replaced it knowing it still is a good iPad. How can I trust that if I replace the battery now it will run fast as it did before. They might be trying to get me to replace the batter to find out I need a new iPad and cost me even more.

The clock speed is slowed down so the battery APPEARS to last longer as operating at optimum speed you would notice it in MORE recharges

I have seen iPhone battery replacement on YouTube and it is quite brutal
I am from the camp that believes in user changeable batteries, ( I buy a spare when I get a new phone and rotate them)
So I know now that user changeable batteries in phones have all but died, but only when you go on vacation do you appreciate removable batteries.

Finally some phones still are not waterproof and still have fixed in battery

Despite any denials from Apple, this is about control, Samsung to enforce Note 7 returns, limited recharge limits there is no need to slow a phone down

This is a huge scam. And look at the guts. "We have added this feature to iPhone 7 with ios 11.2".

It is detestable that your phone can still perform to the maximum and they simply estimate by a "feature" that should slow down.

It'll be interesting to know what parameters use the "feature" to determine if it must slow the phone and how much. What happen if you change the battery by yourself? I'll be faster again? Or only if it's changed in an official service... or never as a planned obsolescence?

In any case, knowing this, I would never buy a second-hand one, or I would offer $ 129 -169 less, which costs the official battery change ... I think in the future there will be many iPhone to recycle in the trash because nobody will want to buy one used.
