Triple camera? More like triple deal breaker. First of all who needs 6.1 inch display, most of us look for compact 5.7 inch bezelless phone. Secondly, nobody likes a notch because its an eyesore. Lastly, that EMUI software is ugly and needs customised android like Oxygen OS to support the AMOLED screen from long term burn in issues

In 1/2.3 sensor you would cramp 40 megapixels!!! Then detail level of your photo will be crap that iPhone 4s

Bokeh effects are fake and gimmicky. I don't need them. The third camera here is redundant.

Shui8, 21 Mar 2018Huawei sales surpass apple last year, just behind samsung. ... moreIf Xiaomi this year repeats their perfomance of 2017 (100% growth in market share) this year will be a though fight for that 3rd place.

Anonymous, 20 Mar 2018It probably has very tiny pixels, like 0.8 micron or small... moreWhich means we can not expect the same quality from the 40 Mpix camera as PureView camera. High noise level will be there. Huge amount of post processing will be there.

Anonymous, 21 Mar 20180.9 micrometer is just an assumption. As far as I know no m... moreIf they can hide a 1/2" sensor behind a lens of that diameter, first you would have a high F,( at least F3? F4?) and second in a slim phone? that small flange focal lens, the height of the lens.. that lens would have to be a wonder of optics to not have high distortion, coma, chroma aberration, etc.

Anonymous, 21 Mar 20180.9 micrometer is just an assumption. As far as I know no m... moreA more extreme case is the Panasonic Lx100 camera. The Lx100 has a 16.8 megapixel sensor, but you only get 12.8 megapixels in 4:3 mode. I guess they couldn't make the lens larger without making the camera bigger, so instead they used a smaller area of the sensor for different aspect ratios that are covered by the image circle.

Anonymous, 20 Mar 2018This sensor is not Sony's. Who makes it? Well, on the other hand, if I remember right, Sony's bought Tosbiha's image sensor business and it's already been almost 2 years since the completion of the transfer. And since Toshiba was responsible for 41Mpx sensor in L808 Pureview, maybe they already have the technology to make it possible, if Huawei has made a custom order...

AnonD-743635, 21 Mar 2018Source for the 0.9 micron info?. Also if you don't get 40mp... more0.9 micrometer is just an assumption. As far as I know no mobile image sensor with a smaller pixel pitch than 0.9 micrometer has ever been produced. And 0.9 micrometer sensors are even very new. Recently 1.0 micrometer was the smallest pixel pitch you could get as far as I know.
If it's a multi aspect ratio sensor, then 40 megapixels could be related to the total resolution. This was also the case with the 41 megapixel sensor of the Lumia 1020. You would only get nearly 41 megapixels if you combined a 4:3 photo with a 16:9 photo. You got 38 megapixels in 4:3 mode, but the resolution of the sensor was 41 megapixels.

Also if you don't get 40mp in 4:3 in what aspect ratio you will get that? 1:1? Does the phone will let you take pictures in 1:1? Isn't that "cheating" (other brands only give mp as in 4:3 ratio)?

If the pixel pitch is 0.9 micrometrer, then the sensor area is larger than a 1/2" sensor. It might be a multi aspect ratio sensor in order to keep the lens small, for example Sony's Xperia XZ2 uses a multi aspect ratio sensor with a sensor area that is very similar to the area of a 1/2" sensor. The Lumia 1020 also had a multi aspect ratio sensor. So you might not get 40 megapixels in 4:3 mode.
