Shellyman Infinity, 23 Aug 2018Lord! Nokia is a not a Chinese company... When will you peo... moreI know right. It's getting tiring. HMD (the owner of the Nokia brand for phones) has it's Headquarters in the same complex as Nokia Oyj. It is run by ex Nokia Oyj and ex Microsoft (Nokia division) people and Nokia Oyj is a non invested partner. Only the manufacturing is done in China...just like Apple, Just like some Samsungs...etc.

This has got nothing to do with banning phones from Huawei and ZTE in Australia. This just means those two companies cannot bid for the right to build the countries 5g network infrastructure. 4g and 5g phones will still continue to be sold here and work on all our bands.

If you allow the Chinese in, they are going to build few virtual islands in your network, and you can't do anything about it. Good decision Australia

The sad thing is that they still allow Cisco and Juniper, and other American manufacturers.
Have you looked at just how many backdoors Cisco has been caught putting into their equipment in the last 5 years? It's in the double digit range now. Look it up, it's not a lie.
There has never been any proof or evidence that Huawei or ZTE has put in backdoors in their telecom equipment. There has however surfaced plenty of proof that Cisco and Juniper equipment allows U.S. intelligence services in.
It makes you wonder what kind of back room deals or dirt the U.S. government has on the Australian government, when they knowingly let American malware equipment appear at the bid.

AnonD-241270, 23 Aug 2018Now, maybe they ban all other chinese brands like Nokia, Le... moreMotorola itself is 2 company. The mobile division is owned by Lenovo and the other one is focusing on other telecommunications and other products/services so you're incorrect.
You're also incorrect about Nokia. Nokia itself is still based and operates in Finland (HMD) but everything goes through China as they allow licensing over their products they approve and support.
I really do wonder what these governments know that they don't share publicly...

Nokia just rents their name to help sales.
Who would buy a phone that has HMD Global logo on it? Nobody.

Go hit up on Google search about HMD Global. It is a Finnish company with it's headquarters based in Finland opposite of Nokia's buildings.
Yes, the HMD Global is Finnish with the executives being the former people of Nokia.

Every single company with millions of users does this. Nothing new about it. It's irresistible. Sure we get google permissions and stuff, how many of us actually check logCats to confirm its effective or not? How many of us actually know it'll even show on those logs? or how many of us have actually sniffed out a GSM Network in our life to dissect what "actually" is being transmitted over radio waves?
Not America, not China nor anyone else is clean of blood here. everyone is guilty.
It's their business, both the companies' and nations'. Deal with it or else stop using phones and computers or anything electronic.

Its not that they are scared of China. No one knows how the chips work in Huawei phones as they refuse to follow GPL.
Second, Chinese phones don't work in Australia unless they have the right LTE bands. I can order phones right now from Huawei or Xaiomi but what is the point with poor LTE support. The Chinese can't even show that Australians are having choices removed if they can't get a connection anyways
