Sonu4678, 26 Aug 2018As much as i appreciate cheap devices, i'll never buy Xiaom... moreYou can turn it off (at least on the redmi note 5 and note 5 pro). But it requires digging.
That is what makes MIUI irritating.
Those who are comparing Xiaomi to OnePlus are not factoring this aspect. OnePlus currently offers perhaps the best Android experience out there (which in turn means the best software experience on a smartphone).

I've been using MIUI for more than 6 year since MIUI v3, when gingerbread was new, on various phones including HTC HD2, ZTE Blade, huawei P1, moto defy, razr... It was simply the best aftermarket ROM, with great looks and features thats actually useful, back in the day when stock android or stock UI was either crap or bloated. Even I was always making sure that my new phones has miui port before I bought it
Little people know that it was miui who first implemented so many useful feature in one ROM such as notification toggle, lockscreen shortcuts, integrated app killer, firewall, call recorder, cleaner, blacklist&whitelisting, autostart manager, music player with auto lyrics, powerful theme manager with vast selection of really cool themes, powerful messaging app with ability to insert nicknames for colleague broadcast, browser with reading mode and night mode, pop-up notification with quick reply, ability to manage notification per-app, or even permission manager long before cyanogenmod and aosp has it!
Sure many features on miui was inspired by but also inspiring many others, even aosp itself. But now I feel that the new innovation and ideas has come into stagnation. Stock android now has many features already, overlapping miui features, now miui are now just a little more than looks and feel. On the other hand, for miui user, new android version are pointless because new tweaks in ui and features are useless in miui, other than new security updates and another thing under the hood. Besides, things such ads, xiaomi start locking bootloader, and the latest issue with the anti-rollback protection are really drawback... Well, at least they still sell their phone at low prices

OnePlus is dead. Xiaomi is the true price-to-performance king.

As much as i appreciate cheap devices, i'll never buy Xiaomi again. I'm fed up with their UI. I'm currently using Redmi 3s prime. I always get notifications to update apps through Mi store and i can't even disable that. It bugs me all the time when the LED notification goes off all the time for no reason.
Why the hell is there ads in my file explorer? Oh, so i guess that's why their phones are cheaper.

Their smartphone business model is not for making profits, that's why they have capped their margin at 5%. Their main business is apps & services. They don't rely on their phones to make money.
Their business model is completely different from Samsung/Apple.

Droid, 26 Aug 2018Yes. $300. But guess what? Mediocre camera. No OIS. 0$ budg... moreThose facts are true, but even first gen pixel didn't have OIS. And the thick good quality plastic will last longer than permanently bendable metal and crackable glass ones like old Nokia lumias. The design is meant to attract people of conservative strategy, who looks for functional use than aesthetic value.

freeze game.
No, that's only true if you insist on being an early adopter, if you bother to wait even only a few months, the prices half, especially for Samsung, 900 at release, 600 2 months later, 450 after 4 months, and just about a reasonable price by then.
Have fun with your lemon of a Samsung foldable screen, it's going to be a pig, pricey, full of bugs and not very usable, ill wait fot 3rd generation soft screens, they may work OK by then !!!

The Mi2(S) was the last Xiaomi phone worth getting. Every phone since then hasn't been anything special and just blends in with every other phablet on the market.

Too many ads in Chinese phones? No ad in my Motorola phone. About price I can say Samsung and Apple aren't worth to buy. Their overpriced phones aren't problem free. My uncle's A8 Plus lag from first day. And every iPhone becomes slow after each update. Even Huawei Honor 10 can compete with iPhone X. Xiaomi phones are good too. Chinese phones will rule smartphone world very soon.
