I'm only using my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge 128GB + 128GB microSD because of it's memory capacity. If only the current A8+ (2018) has the same capacity, I'd immediately DOWNGRADE to that just to have a FLAT SCREEN (do you hear this, Samsung?!). If 64GB built-in is good enough for me, I've been good with another model than this. I was thinking of the Xiaomi Mi A1 and Mi A2/Mi A2 Lite for the longest time, but it's still the storage that matters to me.
Thought of the LG G6+ with 128GB built-in and flat screen, but LG's UI is fugly.
Screen protectors are also a pain in the a** with curved screens.
Let's see. Maybe I'll see what stuff I can back-up to my computer and immediately change to a Samsung flat screen.

I was never a fan of either types, curved or flat. I just bought a brand new S8+ a few days ago and I have to say that I like it so far.
But, sometimes it's harder to click some options that are located right in that spot. Specially if you change the DPI density like I did.
So far I didn't notice any accidental touches.
Also, I've disabled edge panels and edge lighting as I never use them and I kinda see them as useless..
The round corners of the display are a LOT more annoying than the edge display itself, hiding a portion of the screen that many times contain some info. Not all apps were thought and written to take that into consideration.
What I can say so far is that Samsung is the most bloated brand out there, with so many USELESS junk apps and features that I can't uninstall or disable. I can't wait to root my S8+ and delete everything I don't use..

"But there's a practical side to them too and it's not a minor one. The main problem with smartphones these days is handling" - I'm sorry but this is plain bs. The best phone to handle was the nextbit robin (razer phone). Why? no rounded corners, flat screen, flat back, small form factor. Yes, phones larger than 5" are hard to handle but a rounded corner doesnt help at all. even 2.5D is just annoying. But curved screens are like notches - some customers seem to like unpractical product design, which is fine, if there are alternatives, but there are none.

One of the worse features of my s8+ is the curved screen.
its Totaly gimmicky, wastes pixels left and right, is annoying to use for features as sidepanels in contrast with plain flat screens where you haptic feedback is more accurate since you know where the screen ends and starts.
It looks great in marketing pictures and press releases "infinity screen" sounds great, but its just a useless cost increase and actually reduces from the phone experience. i wish Samsung would stop using that, but i realise they are heavily invested in it for marketing reasons.

I prefer Flat.
Curve is practical and fashionable, but needs more care to be handled.
Smartphones are next generation of PDAs and mobile phones, so they must be easy to carry + less prone to drop which curve front or back, lacks.

Been using edge phones since s7 edge.. Not going to go back.. There's no increase in accidental touches compared to a flat screen.. These phones are slippery because of the oleophobic coating to reduce the fingerprints.. Otherwise aluminium is more slippery than glass, i know i had the n8 tank to prove it

Flat for sure.
Person which invented curved screens should be seated on an electric chair and run at full power.
Apart from worse looking and being sippery its a screen protector resistant and much easier to breaks also its very expensive to sale despite the fact making a curved glass cost only 14 dollars.

I went from S7 edge to LG G6. I will never buy another phone with a curved screen as long as flat phones exist.

it's wrong to say those of us who detest the curved screen of samsung flagships have not tried using them at all. i upgraded last year from note 4 to note 8 and have used the latter at least 3 months; i really just hate the curved screen. firstly, the reason i was into the note series was because of the s-pen- i do alot of sketching, and the curved screen is not conducive to sketching. second is that, as one commenter previously mentioned, there's really glare and distortion in those curves that gets in the way of full enjoyment of media consumption in the device. let's just say that it's really not everyone's cup of tea. i have sold my note 8 and went back to using the note 4, which died on me a week ago. i was shopping for a note 5 but was having problem finding one so i picked up a razer phone instead because it has none of those curves and tall aspect ratio while on QHD. yes, it doesn't let me do sketching anymore, but still it doesn't compel me to get the new galaxy notes.

I had used S6 EDGE and then S8 and now NOTE 8, neither my phones display broke nor any problems.Besides edge screen is amazing on watching movies and now bazzleless DISPLAYS made a great change. The people who disagree curved screen just use once, you will get addicted to curves.

Flat screen is better. More durable and cheap to repair. Curved screen is very fragile and useless.

cr, 27 Aug 2018Stop debating flat or curve, this is just user preference lolIt won't be "user preference" when manufacturers stop producing phones with flat panels because they sell less. Take a look at glass backs, removable batteries and even headphone jacks.

Why would anyone want a distorted screen because of the curves, I don't get it.
It's the same as on rounded corners and notch.
Stop ruining screen experience.
A screen should be 100% rectangle and flat, just like on any other platform.
It should be able to show videos, images and games the way they were supposed to be shown, trying to use as much space as possible.

Surprising results till now, 65% against curved display. I thought I am in the minority voting for this, but it seems we are requesting a design change especially on Samsung phones.

Everyone's talking about how it's difficult to find screen protector and whatnot, but my biggest turn-off for curved screen is the amount of glare I got along the edges, especially when I'm outside or in a room with multiple light sources coming from various directions. It's worse when watching videos fullscreen since the real estate where the screen is curved is virtually not-watchable due to glare. What's the point of getting rid of the bezel to 'enlarge the screen' if I'm not going to be able to see the content that it's on the curved edges more than half the time anyways?

I actually stopped using Samsung because in their S series they stopped the flat screen versions for since S8. There is no real benefit from curved screens, they distort the view and increase reflection. It is not just useless, it is bad.
