This is a little misleading because this in Switzerland always cost more. Just look at the pixel 2 which is listed for $985 for the 128gb version and we know it launched much less than that.
So chances are the mate 20/pro cost less than what the conversion shows here

I am a gadget and smartphone freak and currently own an S9+ (dual sim, 128 GB)( and for which I have only paid £600 as I have traded my old Samsung). But it already feels old, after only 6 months from its initial purchase.
To pay >$1000 for a phone it seems already a rip-off. Just a word of advice: wait for a couple of months and invest your money in your family, friends, and experiences rather than these meaningless things.

Apple A12 if it was used with Android in the latest Android version in turn to have around 4800 pts in single core at the Geekbench it would get less some 900 pts and would be in pair with Snapdragon 855. Prepare yourself for the next Pocophone to be as fast or faster the iPhone XS or XS Max.

to be honest the iphone is the bench mark that every phone is trying to beat.. i was hoping for this phone to be cheaper then the iphones.. i guess im gona wait for xiaomi mix and if they try and compete with iphones for price i'm just gona get iphone max

Bought about 1 month ago a S9+ with 750 euro (at a discount). I think this is the maximum that it's necessary to pay for a phone. 1000$ or above is just not worth it, no matter what they bring to the table and no matter the manufacturer.

Its worth the price more than any other flagship from H2.
Its will have new tech introduced to the market which other flagships wont.... and if you wait a little, prices will drop

Still delivering slow updates. 1 major Android update and now they have dialed back again on the security updates on some regions. They are nowhere near the deserving $1000 mark.
When they provide long term support and prompt updates then they are deserving of that. No now.
