24 October 2018
Apple got into additional trouble because it didn't give clear information on when phone batteries should be replaced and how.

Excellent development by Italian regulatory authorities against planned obsolescence by phone manufacturers. Non-removable batteries that have zero or limited availability a few years after a phone model has been released should also be fined heavily as planned obsolescence. Manufacturers who keep on coming up with numerous phone models but don't support them with software security updates for at least 5 years need to be heavily penalized as well for planned obsolescence. Non-expandable storage is also planned obsolescence as they make you buy a new phone when storage is full. These manufacturers without micro sd expansion should also be heavily fined for planned obsolescence.

Sonu4678, 25 Oct 2018We all know about Apple's infamous planned obsolescence pro... moreWhen did Apple confirm to planned obsolescence? They only slowed performance in 6s and later if the battery is in less than optimal condition, as the phones used to shut down randomly in rough use cases. But in future updates they even gave the option to users to control it. They even offered free battery replacements for one month and battery replacements at 1/3rd the price for entire one year. I have been using 6s for the last 3 years, without the feel of slowing down or the need to replace my battery. Infact ios 12 made the 6s faster than the os that it came with 3 yeats ago.

The ios 12 literally gave life to a 6 year old Handset. No wonder Italy is falling apart.

But then again, they wouldn't become billion dollar companies if they cared about their earlier devices.

See how they were glueing batteries just so they can charge people to replace them or make them buy new ones.

They are just too lazy and greedy releasing phones all the damn time, you can't even get to enjoy your current device.

technically people buy it because its iphone or samsung.

All the more incentive for Samsung to just bypass Italy with phone updates.

Also, people tend to forget that their phones have weaker processors than the one that replaced their phone. It's as if they bought a Euro 3-spec BMW and complain that their car is slower than a Euro-6 model and then Sue BMW for making their cars slow...

                          They found guilty.

What a dirty strategy. Other countries should do this as well.

Too bad the maximum amount is €5 million. This is not much of a penalty and doesn't help anyone who's seen their phone's performance go to crap after an update.

I would like to see these government agencies fine them that amount each month until they send out an update that allows users to go back to the previous/original version of the OS.

That would get the attention of Apple and Samsung and help the consumers.

5 million only?! They should be fined at least 5 BILLION for what they've been doing for several years.

AnonD-558092, 25 Oct 2018You consider yourself a techie when you say that only RAM c... moreNo, I am saying that Note3 can run android 9 because it has 3GB of RAM. You already have built Oreo 8.1 ROMs for it. I know that every device gets about 2 years of official OS updates.

And J2 is galaxy S2 released with newer OS and little faster chipset.

I am not a troll. I know what I am saying. Don't protect Samsung, they are not customer friendly company.

Ummm from what i remembered sony refreshed their design how long did it take apple to refresh their design and even Samsung haven't refreshed their design since the s6 series just refined it the xz3 design waz totally refreshed and bezeless id take the xz3 front firing speakers rather than bottom mounted

We all know about Apple's infamous planned obsolescence proof and they themselves confirmed it. I didn't hear anything about Samsung's side though. I would like to know more details about that, not just sentence. I already read some of the comments claiming it, but it's not a reliable source. If you guys have any specific article, please let me know. I personally want to believe in Samsung cuz i like their products and business mentality, but i'm certainly not a blind fanb@y.

Two diagusting companies, especially apple. After updating to ios 11 my phone has been rendered useless because of activation error and i can't downgrade. Contacted apple and tried everything, no solution. I'm basically left with an expensive brick.
