24 October 2018
Apple got into additional trouble because it didn't give clear information on when phone batteries should be replaced and how.

It's really a good choice for me not to be deceived by their too many bells and whistles. I never in my life bought these two giants garbage brands. I'm happy I chose Motorola. Awesome!

What should Google be fined then, considering they are providing slow performance even without any firmware update?

It's very frustrating for everyone but just think at teenagers who are saving their money for months just for buying one of these smartphones and then discover something like this? SHAME ON YOU.

You know! I always have that question in my head, " what if the last update that you received it for your phone actually slow it down? And you can't do anything about it! " ( iPhone especially, cause apple only got 1 phone each year, small or big, it matters in size) it is just 1 model, and if people who loves iPhone so much that they're a die-hard fan of Apple. They will continue to buy a iPhone. They'll even persuades themselves into getting a new one ( and having all kind of excuses of how great the iPhone is).

Although I kind of having the thought about Android phone(s), but since there's so many options to choose from, it is somewhat unwise for Android OEMs to do so. Cause buyers doesn't necessarily have to buy from the same guy.

While Apple, iPhone, iPod touch, iPad are different in this case.( Somewhat different).

Nicknam, 24 Oct 2018 There is obviously a planned obsolescence on Samsung devic... moreYou consider yourself a techie when you say that only RAM comes in play for OS? Ya right troll. The SoC and drivers are more important than RAM. Also you base your experience on ultra low-end devices

Thanks to the redditor, a part of the geek segment that is being insulted for not being able to dictate the market trends, who outed Apple slowdowns.

Which is actually real because Apple actually apologized for it.

This lawsuit happened as well as the much praised IOS12 update for iPhones.

Otherwise, everyone from all brands would just end up being a sucker and keep buying newer phones every year.

There is obviously a planned obsolescence on Samsung devices. I am a techie guy, and I discovered it long time ago on my Galaxy Ace+. It was updated to latest version.
                It clearly has :
                - slower performance
                - a lot of bugs
                - extremely laggy UI
                - laggy launcher
                - app crashes are common
                - alarm wont ring every third time
                - pictures in album are downscaled (to make us think that newer phone has better camera)
Then, I wanted to install custom ROM, but after flashing COMPATIBLE recovery, phone was bricked.

It probably wont happen on all devices because they are picking devices randomly. That is why some people say that their phones are faster, while others are slower after update. Hard reset wont help either.
You can even see that old Note3 has Android 5.0 on 3GB RAM, while newer J2 has Android 8.1 on 1GB RAM. Of course, Note 3 can run Android 9 without any problems.

Samsung is lying to its customers. They are making fools of us. I am not stupid to trust SCAMsung. If you want to revive old phone, install custom ROM on it.

"hit Apple with another €5 million fine for failing to provide clear instructions on when the battery inside an iPhone should be replaced and what is the proper way to do so"

                  No OEM does that either.

Should have been the entire EU behind this instead of just one of its members.

Good. Hope other countries follow suit. It is about time these companies are held accountable for their anti-consumer practices!

And Tim Cook goes around the world being preachy, but behind the scenes, it's just one big money grab.

Officially done with Apple and Samsung smartphones. I might buy other products from them but nomore iPhones and Galaxies for me.

My next phone is either the successor to the Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact or I might just wait for the smaller Pixel 4.

                          Nokia
                          Motorola
                          OnePlus
                          LG

The closer to stock, the better. Will never buy HTC or ASUS ever again. LG moved down because of their skin and how unreliable they can be. My favorite smartphone of all-time might always be the Essential Phone. Used to be the LG G5 until experiencing the fast battery drain.

While it sounds weird that I won't buy another iPhone again because I generally don't like iOS, the SE is actually one of my favorite smartphones ever. Great design + smooth software experience. It's on 10.2.1 which triggers the throttling but l'll just change the 1.5 year old battery next month.

My next phone will be sticking to Pixel for life or a Sony because I prefer compact phones.

They give us suspicious updates that slowing down our phones ...shame on you

Wonder if they will fine Intel for the same thing. Apple could always blame it as a security issue.

Nice to see authorities putting pressure on manufacturers to release software that isn't optimised, but the wording in that ruling is a bit risky. They could criminalise security updates. For instance the fixes for those cache memory exploits on ARM and Intel processors.

It's not about the updates for Samsung but their interface and forced increase of supposed stability of the devices eligible for the updates though.

that is really true from update to update the phone become slower and slower the it will make you think to buy the latest phone release.
