And unfortunately to few of us still want phones.
It is like real keyboards.
Only a tiny minority wants them, though some of the few of us left would gladly pay more for it than yet another huge phablet.

The manufacturers are so focused on the potential profits in the large mass market that they do not dare to offer variety for the remaining groups.

Sony compacts last easily more than any crappy chinese. Way more than crapple too.

      Extremely sad news if true.
With Sharp (only available in Japan) Sony was the last one making high speced phone-sized devices (and not just phablets)

Relatively they'd still be bigger if it's an IPS display because you need to fit the backlight but it's doable. Just have a look at Sharp R2C, anyway (and imagine the fingerprint sensor is on the back or side)
Thickness - yes, it's most likely necessary to accommodate everything in a smaller package along with a big enough battery, but bezels aren't, like at all.

My last sony phone was the z1 compact. It was a great phone, but as years passed I need to upgrade and unfortunately I didn't liked what came after the z1 compact. Too expensive, the design is bad, ram is low as well as the battery capacity. Build quality is good though.

I'll be happy with an XZ2C or the smallest member of the upcoming S10 family then. If Compact is dead, Sony is dead to me too (a loyal Z5C user)

As I already compare what compact pgone I should buy in future, but all getin bigger and bigger, so I'm thinking to stuck with it for a long time. Even have thoughts to get real small old good feature phone for unlimited talks and sms and to get mobile internet for ~30-50 GB/ month with small modem and to use one of my old Samsung (S1, S2, S3, S4, S5 Neo, S7 Edge) phone for emails and internet browsing without a SIM card.

Anonymous, 12 Jan 2019Nokia 6.1 is huge phone... we need small phones too...I mean Nokia 6.1 plus (which is smaller than 6.1). If you think that's a huge phone, totally understand. But most of the phones coming out these days are even bigger.

I guess the only compact now is the iPho-

Oh, no more, feel so sorry to you guys.

I hope there's a woked somebody who thinks that slide-out front camera trends needs to be combined with physical slide-out keypad and small screen.

Here in the Philippines I have a very bad experience with their service center. No more Xperia for me from now on. Expensive brand yet they can only provide a third party service provider which more likely to cheat costumers.

can't axe the compact line since it hasn't been compact lately, they axed it already back when they went 5 inch. Now its just a ridiculous name that get axed.

Xperia Compact series could have been good had they gone full HD when the displays were still small. But low resolution paired with big bezels and poor batteries, the very disadvantages of 4 inch iPhones, what was Sony thinking? The copied all of the disadvantages of 4 inch iPhones but none of the advantages. What Sony really axed was their own leg, people wanted high end compact phones and only Apple delivered while Sony was a feast in mediocrity.

                                  Nuuuuuu~
                                  No more compacts!

I know now why tablets become pretty much obsolete. Why, why create tablets while phones evolve into tablets! Soon, I'm sure that we will see a 7" device called "phone".
