Samsung remembers its past milestones as Galaxy nears its 10 year anniversary

11 January 2019
The company has been delivering innovative displays and other hardware since before "smartphone" was a thing.

All my Samsung (S series & NOTE series) phones.. first to last Galaxy nexus S ( used 2 years), Galaxy Note 2(1 year), Galaxy S5(1 year), S6 edge(7-8Months), S6 edge plus(returned within 5 days of return period, heating issue), Galaxy Note 5(1year), Galaxy S7 edge (6 months).. after that I moved to Google pixel..

B... moreI think this year they will really turn things around in terms of offering better specced mid/budget phones. Pricing might still be an issue and it so depends wether consumers like what Samsung has to offer for those tiers. Adding either flagship or new features to these ranges is a good move by them.

But now Samsung has to really work on mid-range and low budget. Because Samsung has everything to create a great device so they have to do better than Chinese OEMs.

Hope Samsung will continue to rule over Android. This year 2019 is great opportunites for Samsung.

Things I like the most about samsung devices: screen with true black, pen, endurance of exynos.
If they also would not downgrade their chip, we would have 8K already.

Will be remembered for creating reliable flagships, setting the direction for android flagships, and pushing innovations in camera and display when entire phone industry innovation was stuck after Nokia's fall.

does this article missing a mid section.
To me it sound like "first there were dinosaurs and then we went to space"...
                          does it not?

Samsung had actually been leading Android in way more ways than one can imagine. From hardware, bringing it's Camera excellent to smartphones (faster f-stop for lenses, bigger image pixel in sensors for better low light and higher dynamic range, the first smartphone camera with HDR, dual pixel autofocus for industry leading autofocus speed, HDR in video, pro shooting modes with RAW implementation etc), to increasing RAM on smartphone, to making screens large and beautiful (AMOLED), to bright (1000 nits and over), to having expandable storage and keeping headphone jacks (2 things which cannot be emphasized enough), to having the infinity screen design language that many others follow now, to giving freebies like headphones and wireless chargers in the box etc.

On the software front many of the features on the Android OS have been on Samsung way before Android got it's footing. Plus the Achilles heel on Samsung phones have been Android's limiting features on hardware including the camera (the World before Camera3 API). Google and Apple had members on the other's board of directors (Steve Jobs was on Google's and vice versa), which delayed many of the key features Google required in the early years (because of Jobs complaining and because Google didn't wanna upset him and others). And then Android began abandoning Tablet OS developments and other devices where the platform ran. Plus the play store in its initial years (and even now), is riddled with all sorts of apps that steals personal data, and not tested enough for security.

Android has also been Samsung's limiting factor and it's strength. While it circumvented the shortcomings of the Android Platform by creating it's own skin of features over these shortcomings on Android, that also created bloatware and slowed down the fluidity of initial Samsung phones.

Samsung must do this to go forward:
                            1. Work on the future of Smartphone Sensors (and cameras). Like the IMX607 is a sensor that should be on Samsung smartphones. It need to make sensors that overcome limitations of the Bayer Pattern and limitations of smaller sensor pixels. The triple ISO tech on the IMX607 seems very innovative. It should work on a sensor that that 120-240 full pixel readout.
                            2. Or 14-bit RAW on smartphones. Maybe even collaborate with Blackmagic cameras for having super compressed RAW on smartphones. Also the RAW on smartphones (DNG) needs to go. It's far from perfect.
                            3. It needs to creates it's own ecosystem of Apps on the Android store, created solely for Samsung devices, like garage Band and FilmmicPro were for iPhones. Especially for the Galaxy S and Note line-up.
                            4. Open up it's API. It needs to ensure that developer apps run perfectly instead of with limited features.
                            5. Up until the S7, the Exynos on a different level to the Snapdragon processors. It was way better in every way. Now the gap seems to have been reduced, and also slightly reversed. Samsung needs to work with ARM to cap it's performance and power drain issues. It also needs to work with Andrei Frumusanu of Anandtech.com to try and understand where the chip needs to improve and what are it's weaknesses.
                            6. The Capacitor SPen was a superb idea. I hope it trickles down to capacitor camera modules or even a capacitor as an extra for other things.
                            7. Hardware. Samsung needs to ensure its hardware has a distinct advantage from everyone else in the market. Especially since it is the leader in processor and memory. It needs UFS 3.0 which it will most likely get in the S10 line-up. It also needs to work backward with accessory makers to ensure that it's Cameras, posers and other hardware are compatible with as wide a hardware group as possible.

How about remembering to update your old phones to newer software huh Samsung? Or even current ones lol
