AJ Styles, 19 Jan 2019Serious question. Can the Windows Phone still be used with ... moreYes, you can use Continuum, in fact everything will still be functional but you will only lose security updates, that doesn't really matter as no form of malware has entered any Windows Phone since its release in 2010 as it is a closed-source OS and less than 0.34% of smartphone users are using Windows Phone/Windows 10 Mobile. You can continue using WP as normal, just no updates from December :)

Genesis, 19 Jan 2019Do not be deceived. There is no OS which doesn't collect so... moreBest of luck saying that to Linux.

DexterHR, 20 Jan 2019Man, you managed to squeeze whole bunch of nonsense in one ... moreHi dextor it's not bunch of sheet. I m referring 2013 for early days of Android, not 2016. Yes we are talking about WP and I mentioned why it's not different from Windows OS. When we say something is on its peak means there's a user base and Microsoft failed to encourage devs to make more apps for their app store, why? I clearly said that they failed because they used same kernel as Windows OS. So just read carefully what I said and also I'm a fanboy of everything which is good not only Android.

Get an android phone, root it, install Linux Deploy, enjoy a full blown Linux OS on your Android phone.
My 6 year old Sony phone is rocking GIMP and VLC like this with only 2GB RAM :)
WP is trash compared to Android.

AJ Styles, 19 Jan 2019Serious question. Can the Windows Phone still be used with ... moreYes, it can, but I wouldn't consider it as PC. It's just WP on a bigger screen. :)

I owned a Lumia 925. I remembered that it was a really good phone at the time. A very different but still interesting UI, great design and material, and an exceptional camera. I really enjoyed my time using it but yeah it became old without new exciting updates and the app support is simply pathetic

Nevertheless it was a nice change from my usually android smartphone, thanks and goodbye Windows Mobile. The world can learn from your mistakes.

kerul, 20 Jan 2019Every damn windows fans are praising Lumia 630, 640, 930 et... moreMan, you managed to squeeze whole bunch of nonsense in one post! :D

                  1. 2016 was the early days of Android OS?!? :D

                  2. You understand that we're talking about Windows phone OS, not Windows OS?
As far as I know, Android is much more vulnerable then WP. I may be wrong, correct me if I am. I repeat, WP.

                  3. I'm not telling that MS respects user privacy, but, Hey Google?!? :D

                  4. Devs didn't developed apps for WP, not because of cost (MS even helped them to deliver apps to ecosystem) but because of very small userbase. No users, no profit. Perfectly understandable for me.

All you said is just a fanboyism. WP OS is dead. It was dead long time ago. Some people liked it, loke me (using Android last 2,5 yrs after 7 yrs of using Win mobile and WP) and some did not. Everyone knows whats best for themselfs. No need to be bittered, WP is no longer threat for you Android fanboys. :D

Anonymous, 19 Jan 2019It's the end of an era really. It started way back with Win... moreI finally switched to Android (still a Nokia unit though, die hard fan here) a week ago because my Lumia 930 finally died and I am discovering almost daily something that Windows OS does better. The keyboard layout for starters. its just not spaced as well as with Windows. The Windows version of WhatsApp allows for simultaneous messaging to as much as 40 names (not Group chat), Android limits it to 20. Instagram on Windows is more intuitive than on Android (and 6Tag isn't available on Android). Deleting files is more complicated as well. Even taking a screenshot either needs an app or is a two-step process! If only Nokia and/or Microsoft put in better effort in marketing the Windows OS, I'm sure more people would have realized that the thousands of apps on iOS and Android are not the biggest draw but the OS' innate ease and functionality.

This is a shame. What happened to the MS plan to allow android apps to be ported easily to WP? I guess it wasn't so simple. I use android now but loved the WP interface and cortana integration...much better than Google assistant or Siri. I wonder if they will sell the parents for the os to Google? I'd love to see Android adopt live tiles and cortana, just like I'd love my android phone to have glance screen and sound profiles from Nokia. Android is brilliant but it's boring compared with Windows Phone OS.

I remember the first time I saw a Windows Phone 7 OS, for me it was ugly but then when the WP 8 was out I liked, I love how the live tiles looked, everytime I saw an article about it, I read it, until I bought a Nokia 520 in 2014, the resolution was bad but for the price I couldn't expect something better, although the limitation of the OS I loved it, they gave you the option to store games and apps on the SD so I had a lot of apps on my 520, I always wanted to have the Windows 10 upgrade but when they said that it was over, it was really sad, I have to changed it not because of that but due to the battery and the fact that the browser started to crash a lot, it was my secondary phone, last year my girlfriend need it a phone so I gave it to her but the last week two burglars enter to her aparment and stole the phone, tragic end, until last week she used to send meessage via whatsapp

re: AJ Styles - yep. Lumia 950, 950XL, Elite X3 and Alcatel 4S Windows edition can all be used in Continuum mode. Works well, too. If a bit slow.

I am using Lumia 520 as a backup device together with Nokia 6 now. I had tortured Lumia in its 5+ year life and it still looks almost new. It was one of the last devices to have removable back and battery and so it easily spreads the impact on fall and was easy to replace.
Missing both the hardware as well as the software smoothness of the Lumia and windows 8.x.
By the way, the Lumia receives security patches monthly before Nokia 6, not to mention that Nokia 6 receives fast monthly updates too.

Every damn windows fans are praising Lumia 630, 640, 930 etc. But there are few facts they have to considered before saying windows an era.

1 In September of 2013 Microsoft bought Nokia's mobile business, but Windows Phone market share officially dropped below 1% in 2016. And that was the early days of Android OS. If Windows Phone are too good as you people are praising then why It is out of market and Android OS made its way and capture the market share.

2 Microsoft OS is the hell, its a long story but just tell me how many viruses you will find for MAC OS or Linux OS? In Microsoft OS it is common that your system were attacked by virus, System Hang issues and OS get corrupted and you have to reinstall everything. And so the Windows Phone OS having the same issues, because it was made from the same core. Microsoft’s fundamental reason for taking this approach is that it wanted to “. . . share many of the same features as its desktop version, including the same kernel, UI elements, menus, Settings, and even Cortana.”

So it is the most unstable and unsecure OS in the world.

                                  3. I'm very surprised that some people are praising it for Privacy :) I'm not getting why the hell they said that Microsoft OS is best in User Privacy.

                                  4. Closed source and even very costly for developers to make apps for windows phone, hence there is a lack of Apps for windows phone. Just check out license cost of Microsoft OS, Development Tools, Office Suite and additionally Antivirus Cost. You can not live without Antivirus on Windows OS and even with Antivirus you are not safe at all. So you have to frequently higher someone to maintain your systems in Office or contracted someone to get it repaired. And consider loss of man hours during system unusable due to virus or some OS corruption etc, and it is frequent at least once in a month for sure. And all these factors increases development cost.

Okay you people can argue that why PC market is for windows? Yes definitely cause during the time it was the most user friendly GUI, also Microsoft themselves allowed piracy of their OS to have their OS in every PC of the world, especially Asian Market. Now since when someone using PC for the first time it was Microsoft and people are not stretching them selves to use or learn another OS in work place. So their children also have heard of only one OS i.e. Microsoft, also one having PC in their home is with Microsoft OS cause they are using it in their office and they don't want to learn another OS.

That time software developers were only from USA or some European Countries, so they have also adopted Microsoft cause that only can earn them money. And this is how their OS is still there in more than 80% of the PC in this world.

This is a well planned and successful strategy applied by Microsoft in Asian Countries in early days. And you must praise for this strategy, not for their OS or Phone.

Mobile world is very different than PC world and that is why they failed in Mobile Industries with same approach in the PC Market. And you have to admit it that you were using the failed or say not suitable (for mobile) technology. Don't need to praise cause it was going to happened.

Still using my Lumia 620 for emails, calls, texting. The swipe keyboard is the best for me.

My other Lumia 630 just gave up, the screen turns green and that's all.

Right now I've got a Nokia 3.1 running Android 8.1.
