Windows Phone was doomed from the day Satya Nadella took over at the helm. A cloud guy who made no bones about not believing in Windows Phone. His first decision was to get rid of all the Nokia leftovers.

Genesis, 19 Jan 2019I once had a Lumia 540. The phone was not that bad. But am ... moreI regret getting Lumias for my parents, since they hate their phones and mom already made the upgrade to Android over a year ago. They didn't even like the UI, but that's not the worst thing. The worst is that even the most basic things would fail time and time again.
I couldn't even update their phones or the apps - not with 4G or WiFi, since the damn store wouldn't work right. Already had to reset the phones a couple of times, just so they would download the latest WhatsApp back then. Such a horrible OS - we won't be missing it. Only good that it's gone soon, lasted surprisingly long anyway.
On desktop, however, Windows remains as my absolute favorite OS. That's unlikely to change. Works amazingly well. Weird how the mobile version of it never could manage to bring the same level of user experience.... I mean, it definitely had the best background out of all the three big mobile OS's to be the number one mobile OS, due to the desktop version being so damn good in daily usage. Guess it just couldn't translate into phones too well.

8.1 was my favourite mobile OS. 10 was a junk. my WP broked, so now I'm using rooted and completely modified P8 lite, cause Android is stupid. tiles... oh, my lovely tiles...
untill I have no options - I will use Android.
in my opinion, iOS is kind of fine, but... I don't like how it looks, no personalization for user, to make it more confortable. and, on my friend's iPhone when is searched porn in VK or Telegram, as example - it's shows nothing. it's a stupid example, but I don't think it's ok for a phone to decide for user what info to display and I don't know what other stuff it hides or forcing me to see
WP 8.1 will be a good memory. I hope, even if don't believe, someone will create another mobile OS

I owned L520,535. My 520 is broken as “unable to find bootable option”. My 535 still works very well. And I’m currently using i7+. Windows may had chance to be batter. But they killed their own OS.

I HATE Windows phones. I work in a Phone Shop and I resented selling them and hate them even more since they've been let go by Microsoft. Constant issues, hard as hell to get stuff off of them and complicated to use in comparison to Android and iOS, which I have had both of. So farewell, good bye, aufwiedersehen and good riddance!

This is quite unfortunate actually. Windows Phone could have been so much more, but it was against competition that already took over the smartphone market(Android and iOS). Well, it was fun while it lasted!

Using Lumia 730, it's perfectly alright. Microsoft should not ask their customers to switch to the boring ios or android platform. Rather should launch Andromeda asap. Very hopeful indeed!!!

Why dont you buy a popular and well supported android device, root it and install a lineage (cyanogen) or any other googleless firmware...if you need to download apps you could use aurora from f-droid. Just choose a phone with at least 4000mah, lack of google cloud messaging - gcm - drains battery alot.

If the upcoming Linux-powered Purism Librem 5 have enough app ecosystem to fully replace my current usage on Windows 10 Mobile, I would definitely switch to it in a heartbeat.

"...switch to Android or iOS"?
Really? I abandoned the Android ship for Windows 10 Mobile as my daily driver since mid-2016, there's no effing way I'll be back to it again... EVER!
What I will do is wait for Microsoft's official announcement regarding Windows Core OS. That is meant to replace Windows 10 Mobile, so only time will tell.
